Diabolik Lovers is specifically created for Do-S (sadistic dominant) and Do-M (masochistic submissive) dynamics. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t reflect and review the franchise, its plot, and its characters. Especially in spaces that often romanticize the Sakamaki, Mukami, and Tsukinami brothers without critically examining what they’ve done. While the series may aim to appeal to a certain audience by presenting these power dynamics as romanticized or idealized, it’s vital not to ignore the toxic behaviors portrayed - such as emotional manipulation, physical violence, and control which are often overlooked or even glamorized.

It’s perfectly valid to appreciate or enjoy aspects of the franchise, whether for the characters’ depth or the emotional complexity, or their alluring designs. Acknowledging the horror or darker elements in a story doesn’t diminish its appeal or artistic value - it encourages critical thinking and promotes a healthier discussion about the implications of the themes it explores.

The saying ‘the abused become the abusers’ is applicable in this situation. They are way past the line of decency. The things done to Yui Komori are heinous and she’s the only sacrificial bride whose story we come to know.

Now what about the previous sacrificial brides?

Imagine being a young teenager, in this case an orphan girl full of dreams and hope. You're finally exiting what's essentially a cult where you spent your life being raised in blind faith, only to be unknowingly given over as a sacrifice. Like so many girls before you, there's no escape…

And when the Sakamaki brothers had their fill? You're discarded like you never mattered, killed without a second thought or turned into one of Kanato's dolls, your lifeless body preserved as just another keepsake as trophies in wedding dresses to his collection. Thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of women were assaulted, humiliated, mutilated, subjected to torment, abused, raped, psychological tortured that twists your mind and sense of identity where your suffering becomes entertainment for them.

No sympathy for rapists, no sympathy for abusers, no sympathy for those who side with them. No excuses for their behavior, no justifications, no exceptions.

While the Sakamaki, Mukami, and Tsukinami show brief moments of tenderness, these moments don’t outweigh the overwhelming pattern of mistreatment. Big time. Even when the characters show affection, it often comes with unhealthy power dynamics.

**Those bishonen bastards really know how to serve visuals though. And oh my sweet summer the music? On another level. The character songs are godly. The production definitely knew what they were doing with the music. Check it out if you haven’t already❗️**

Question: Why is it that in dl, what Karlheinz wants is the most important?

He’s supposed to be the villain. So why is it that he still gets what he wants?

People say it’s Yui’s “fate” and “destiny” to be Eve but isn’t that just something Karlheinz decided he wanted to happen for his own purposes? As powerful as he’s supposed to be, his plans can’t equal fate set in stone.

So what that his plan is the reason Yui’s alive or whatever. She didn’t ask for him to do that. She doesn’t owe him anything. Why does she /have/ to go along with what he wants?

Karlheinz decided that Yui was a part of his “greater plan” and therefore what she wants just doesn’t matter?

How I see it, “fate” is something you decide for yourself. Nobody has the right to decide that for you. If anyone tries to do so, they are in the wrong.

Karlheinz’s will is not the law of the universe and what he wants should not take priority over Yui. Why do people act like it does and shouldn’t be questioned?

Again, he’s the damn villain!

mood: when a girl in a show activates her powers and her eyes glow

Almost all Diabolik lovers fans hate Cordelia because she was a bad mother.

Well, Sakamakis are bad persons. They have been nothing but abusive to Yui but you still love them (as I do) because they are hot and it’s proven that they are victims. Many people are sorry for the poor girl because she is also a victim.

And then you blame Cordelia because they have mental issues. But almost all of you ignore the fact that Cordelia is also a victim. Maybe the biggest one. Karlheinz was mentally abusing her so much that it would totally break any other person. Cordelia is the only character in entire game and anime and manga who actually loves Karlheinz and he uses that love that has no limits to make a terrible mother and even more terrible person out of her. But almost no one blames Karl for that.

Cordelia is Karlheinz’es victim, Sakamaki brothers are Cordelia’s victims, Yui is Sakamaki brothers’ victim.

I have a question and please answer on that: How is the way Cordelia treats Sakamakis different from the way Sakamakis treat Yui? Or the way Karlheinz treats her?

Head-canons for S/M/Yui reacting to a human reader who has telepathy & telekinesis like Jean Grey from X-men. The scenario is the hotties have commence their usual sadistic tendencies and games. Reader is piss off resulting in hair floating upward with glowing eyes as they levitate off the ground stating, “I’ll make you RELIVE the life of every single sacrificial brides you’ve allowed to die and torture” while grasping them all with telekinesis.

I think from a world building perspective I'm still trying to figure out if I believe Diabolik Lovers vampires more align with demons or a seperate species to humans with a potential ancestor (I've got a big document on that right now that I may post one day). So meta-humans like an X-Man are interesting for that.

From the games, show, and manga we know vampires can teleport and can poses some level of telekinesis (Kanato with his pyrokinesis). So where does that leave our meta-human s/o?

After realising his predicament though Laito vanished, reappearing behind her only to be rapidly forced back again. So this was the game...who would tire first?

Shu

Shu hates you at first you're way to difficult to bother trying to get a drink from, the whole point of the brides are easy meals now he has to hunt!? However in being the only one not actively bothering her she began appearing around him more as the others were "too much effort to be around" according to you.

He finds the telekinesis useful having you move him when he isn't bothered once you become more friendly. Until he learns of your telepathy...

Yeah no this dude has secrets and doesn't want to let people in. Now he isn't sure if you're nice to be around because you're just naturally well suited friends or if it's some trick. All the trauma none of the fun. It's gonna take some crazy work to get him to see your side, and if you fuck it up... let's hope you're as fast a reactor as him.

Reiji

Hello blood sample yes? Immediately cops he can't be himself for a bit so he keeps his school persona of aloof but helpful. Inviting you to tea, only to have you stay seated across from him switching the cups without so much as lifting a finger before drinking.

"I'm just going to assume sedatives act the same on us both then if you won't drink," is all you say mouth covered by the cup only your cold eyes staring over the rim straight into his lacking soul.

Tall boys pissed and or into it (depends on a few things) And yet he knows that until he has you exhausted thus would be a long fight that would give you the impression you were equal and he can't have that. So when he figures out that Ayato was able to scare you in class while you slept he has his plan. After all while sleep is pointless to vampires humans need rest no matter how skilled...

If you manage to get on his good side though you will have a curt friend, he would be looking for ways to ensure you aren't able to read his mind especially if you enjoy chess. Reiji dispises cheats.

Ayato

Horny. He's into being the best and you are the best girl he's met so far. Doesn't mean his insecurities aren't playing sabotage though. I think it'd be a decent amount of up and down. One day he's all about bragging that "Ore-sama has the best because normal humans are too boring." Next day he's looking for a bite and you put up a fight he can't easily win and he gets pissy. He can't force you to do things or take you as he pleases you're too equal.

If you don't escape or get caught by one of them during his development stage Ayato may have a faster run of his route of realising he doesn't need to prove he's the best just know that to himself he is the best to himself. It's the best you're getting and if you like his moxy you two could match very well.

If it's him during the Yui route the anime goes through mixed with actual therapy it would be a different story. You might not be on a romantic route but you could become friends much faster, fun rival vibes I think.

Laito

You look like a notch he absolutely wants on his belt fast. Turns on all the flirt to annoying lack of effect. Because why wouldn't you be attracted to the guy who tried to skip the dining part of wine and dining 🙄.

Laito is from the school of yes being yes, maybe being yes, and no being yes but I'm making the chase more fun. Wrong school and outdated lesson but he ain't about to switch.

Then you let him get close and he's confused but not about to turn down you finally letting down your ice wall. Especially as you lean towards his ear, he loves a bitch-chan who can make the first move.

"I don't think Cordelia would like you using me as a replacement. You know how insecure and jealous she got of Beatrix, and she didn't even have powers."

Cold chills going down his spine and all the suave drops, all he remembers through his rage is swinging at you only to be forced back while you grinned before the door slammed in his face. Telepath. Bad news, worst news he can get. Laito is a master manipulator and lies to protect himself, something that he can't lie to scares him and you stole a big secret.

Prove yourself responsible with his secrets without having to be threatened or asked and he may start to be less hostile. But the minute you hurt him he's your biggest threat.

Kanato

Crying, screaming, breaking. Tantrum alert folks.

All of this, he hates you're not a good Dolly you're not fun and teddy hates you. If this is pre-Yui turning vampire anime ending I have a feeling you'd be the one trying to help her handle Cordelia. And if you find something in the library about how to get rid of her, you're not gonna do this whole wait for suspense shit. No you're saying immediately when she shows up in that dress "Kanato give me the bear I can't believe you stuffed your mum into that."

The psycho was too stunned to speak, until you take it to save her and then he's screaming.

Yeah he's trying to kill you on sight regardless of how unsuccessful his attempts are.

Subaru

He's weirdly happy with it. He can't hurt you easily since you can defend yourself, not that he actually would but he's convinced he's a monster.

You annoy him with how often you try talk to him, but I think you're pretty upfront that you can read minds with him and he'd be thankful that you told him. He would probably avoid you for a bit until he realises you telling him takes some of the strength away from it as he just has to not think about things he doesn't want you to know.

Like how his mum effected him, or how much he likes the rose garden, or how much he likes the smell of the roses, or your shampoo....NO BAD THOUGHTS STOP.

Good news is though none of his flirting can be easily misunderstood after one or two attempts you realise reading his mind skips the stuttering and gets to the words he wants to say not the sounds he's making. It's a beautiful fully open trust that he loves.

Yui

Besties (or more if you're rocking with the LGBT). It's nice to have someone less fucked up to talk to and you also add in bonus protection.

At first she just thinks she enjoys your company for your protection and because you're a good friend. Until during the night when she's sleeping in your room for safety she hears you humming as you brush your hair and she realises she wants that sound every night.

Trigger Catholic guilt and confusion. Obviously most religious people are perfectly fine with being gay but Yui was raised in a cult so I truly believe she'd be conflicted about it especially with how she acts about eventually wanting to be bitten in the game routes.

Slowly starts to accept it though after hearing you talk about your coming to terms with your sexuality. You probably told her early on you were into girls so she knew going into sleepovers that while you weren't gonna do anything. You understood if she wanted to change in the bathroom or she wanted you to sleep on the floor or sum.

Cutest couple ever, and eventually you run away and have a cottage together and spend your days peaceful and free.
