So, I introduced R88 to my friend and she put an interesting spin on Deoksun’s behavior toward SunWoo and JungHwan. And funnily, it coincides with packmule3′s theory.
When we reached ep I forgot but it was when Taek seemed to make moves within moves toward Deoksun, she turned to me and said, “he’s going to end up with Deoksun, isn’t he? Yeah, I think so.”
Me: What about JungHwan?
Her: *waves a dismissive hand* he’s cute and all, but she doesn’t like him.
Me: What do you mean she doesn’t like him, she’s been chasing him around.
Her: She’s not chasing him around, she’s testing him. Remember when her friend told her to ask about the blind date? Everything else is just a bigger version of that. She got burned with SW so she wants to make sure that JungHwan’s really into her before starting anything. She doesn’t take risks that one. Now, Taek, Taek is stepping up. This boy got moves.
And I’m like…does this actually makes sense? And I’m like, yes. yes, it does. It’s not that Deoksun’s flaky, it’s just that she wasn’t invested in JungHwan as much as she should, not even as she was invested in SW, and even then it was more of disappointment over her hurt pride. And when she thought JungHwan failed her, she abandoned her expectation of him easily enough. When SW rejected her, she cried. When she thought JH gave her the pink shirt, she was sulky, and hurt and angry. But there was no heartbreak.
But Deoksun admitted to Taek that she was scared of changing their relationship. To her the risks were too big. But when she chased after JungHwan and SW, she wasn’t scared of the risks, because to her there were no risks, she wasn’t invested enough on those two boys to think about risks. Deoksun wasn’t flaky or indecisive, she just kept chasing after the wrong boys.
This kind of behavior carries on to when she’s adult. The boys teasing her about always getting dumped, and her reaction wasn’t heartbreak or sadness but pride.

Reply 1988 ending problem
Let me first make it clear that I actually really loved this drama and that even though I was on team Jung Hwan, that is not the reason for me thinking this way.
The only problem I had with Reply 1988 is that Deok Sun seemed to have no real opinion on who she liked/loved. It seemed like she only liked someone after she found out there feeling for her or they confess to her first. She grew romantically interested in both Sun Woo and Jung Hwan only after her friends said that they liked her and she only had interest in Taek after he confessed to her first. So it makes me wonder, if Jung Hwan had confessed to her instead of Taek, would she have accepted his heart and married him instead. So with that logic does that mean whoever confessed to Deok Sun (I’m talking about all four of the friends) would have ended up married to her?
