The Plague by Albert Camus is a fun normal book to read. I am having a normal good chill fun time reading The Plague by Albert Camus. an important thing to consider when reading the count of monte cristo is that similar to the twilight/vampire craze of the 2000's, the second generation characters in tcomc are ALSO living through an era of vampire novel popularity. this is important when looking at every interaction a 2nd gen character has with the count, because you have to understand that a pale, older man taking even the slightest interest in them immediately makes them all act like hormonal teens did about edward cullen. each and every one thinks they're about to be the main character in a gothic vampire story that gets seduced by the mysterious count to ultimately become his immortal companion or final feast. this is a crucial lens to look through to understand why they are all like that™ and none of them are reasonably concerned about literally any aspect of him at all. would an edward girlie in 2008 have recognised a red flag in a floppy-haired moody wannabe rpatz? no. and they are the 19th century equivalent of that.
