i think the most annoying part about coming back to nuwho after watching classic who/delving into the eu is it reminds you you literally don't have to do all that. There Are Other Options. nuwho is weirdly allergic to non-contemporary or non-human companions but like you can literally just put a guy from 1746 in there and no one fucking cares. it rules

ID: a realistic digital painting of Leela and Narvin from the episode Fractures. Leela's face and eyes are burned; Narvin is bleeding heavily from his head. He sags backward against Leela with a pained/confused expression; she grips his shoulder and stares fixedly past his head. end ID

bernice summerfield is literally one of the best characters ever i think. shes got all these traits that should correspond to her being a Strong Female Character(TM) whos hypercompetent and Hides her Feelings or whatever the fuck. like shes really smart and really good at a lot of shit and a great fighter and badass and shes got a tragic backstory. except the thing is shes also like really cringe as a human being. yeah yeah she had her very cool escape from being deployed as a soldier and then she forged all her identification and qualifications and everything so she could go follow her true passions. btw her passion is to write academic literature and sleep in a tent. any time she has her own living space it immediately fills up with garbage and dirty laundry. shes a crack shot and a great sword fighter (for some reason. which i love) but she hates killing people so instead shes just always beating motherfuckers unconscious with her bare fists. shes a practical dresser except she REALLY likes big sequiny princess ballgowns and everybody else thinks its a little embarrassing. she got so fixated on documenting bad jokes from the 20th century that her subconscious started rebelling against her. shes canonically a theatre kid. shes a one-liner-dropper. she gets a new head injury every day of her life. and shes YOUR next president.
#the character of all time#she's in 465+ stories. more than anyone other than dr who. and before I got into her stories I wondered what could make her that important#but she really is that special#by which I mean she really is that MESSED UP and INSANE#and i'm obsessed with her#bernice summerfield

It seems an affinity for rock murder is not limited solely to dr who's first incarnation
#many people believe that the doctor's weapon of choice is their mind#wrong! large rock on the other hand–#edas

if they really wanted to bring back a blonde companion's face as the doctor they really could have brought back lalla ward instead
that face has a history of being stolen anyway, plus far more emotional significance for the doctor - from the doctor's perspective, rose got a perfectly happy ending. romana, on the other hand... forced back to gallifrey, a doomed presidency, imperiatrix.. not to mention two decades of torture at the hands of the daleks, which he saw the aftermath of - and did absolutely nothing to help

am i the only person who watched dw who was never obsessed with david tennant? not that I'd judge anyone who was, but it's funny to me
#10 is overrated and insufferable#I always thought he was really annoying. and then a few years ago for about a week I got weirdly obsessed with him and his era#an obsession which died really quickly and was replaced with Gallifrey#and since then I've found him more annoying than ever#especially since being more involved in fandom and seeing everyone go crazy over him for no reason. AND because of 14 existing which I hate#now he's my least favourite doctor#people are welcome to judge me for the brief lapse in judgement. god knows I judge myself for it

Alright, gay people, you can have your queen.
I needed to sketch Leela a bit first before sketching the idea. Just to understand how to simplify that design. I think it turned out well?

Gallifrey, Volume 2
“There will be a place for you with me, for always, whatever face I wear.”
And that’s a wrap on my covers for season two of Gallifrey! 💕
It’s so lovely to see them all finally together - from the order I ended up drawing them in, they almost show a timeline of how my style has developed over the past year. Now to finish series three!
Prints are available as a bundle here or individually in my Etsy store.

Voting 8 on a 'favourite classic doctor' poll but shaking my head so everyone knows I don't think that a wilderness years doctor counts as classic
#the classic era lasted from 1963-89#and eight's run was 1996-2005#which is after 1989!#eighth doctor#doctor who

This is sort of similar to how I view doctor who canon, which is that it's like greco-roman mythology! Both were contributed to over an extended period of time by countless different writers, who may or may not have read each other's works, and there are many conflicting stories but these do not mean any are wrong – just that they are different interpretations. So saying something like "Big Finish isn't canon" is about as meaningless as saying "the 5th century tragedians aren't canon to Homer".
Realisation of the day: Doctor Who canon is a bit like the bible
Everything is always up to interpretation
What’s actually part of it depends on who you are asking

At this point I don’t think the primary reputation of Dr who stories like Zagreus and the blue angel and stuff should be that they don’t make sense. Because they do make sense and are good actually
#zagreus makes a lot of sense!!#people spend so much time making fun of it being confusing (its not) that they don't notice its actually one of the best doctor who stories
