Lightening Tomato Cleanser
Julie Gabriel, author of Green Beauty Recipes and founder of Petite Marie Organics skincare, shares a simple recipe to brighten your complexion.
Recipe: 1 ripe tomato 2 tbsp. milk 2 tbsp. lemon, lime, or orange juice
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Apply to the skin with a cotton ball and leave to work its magic for three to five minutes, then rinse with tepid water. This cleanser cannot be stored so it’s best to use it right away and add any leftovers to your pasta sauce.

Brew a strong cup of green tea with the tea bag and the water. Let it cool to room temperature or refrigerate.
Combine the oil, sugar and matcha in a medium bowl and stir well to combine. Add 1/8 cup of the cooled green tea and mix well. If not using the matcha, add the remaining 1/8 cup of green tea.
Store in an airtight container and use in the shower to gently exfoliate your skin.
Notes:

Coconut Oil Magic
Tumblr media
1. Shaving Cream – My legs were in a bad way over the winter. They were itching so bad at one point I briefly considered the relief of scrubbing them down with an an SOS pad on them. I went to the interwebs to find a cure and The Pioneer Woman hooked me up. She claimed it was my shaving cream causing all the problems and suggested I use something pure and simple to shave with. So was the birth of my coconut oil shaving routine and the death of my itchy leg syndrome. 2. Body Lotion – This stuff sinks into the skin enough to properly hydrate and leave you with that gorgeous tropical scent. 3. Eye Makeup Remover – Obviously this one isn’t oil free like the one photographed above but it is perfect for ridding your eyeballs from the black stuff. 4. Frizz Control- Rub a little oil in your hands and tap down any flyaways. You can also run it through your ends to combat dryness and add some shine. 5. Lip Balm- Smear some into your pout for an instant moisture lock. 6. Hair Deep Conditioner- I mix about ¼ cup coconut oil + half an avocado together and massage it into wet hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then rinse. It will leave your hair shiny, silky and moisturized. 7. Protect your tresses from the chlorine- Before you jump in the pool wet your hair and oil it from about the nape of your neck down. Then throw it in a bun. Now you don’t need to worry about chlorine fried hair.

BREAK UP WITH YOUR BUILD UP
Tumblr media
Hard water minerals, shampoos, conditioning masks, hair styling products and the environment can all cause build up to gather on your hair.
Build up can reek all sorts of havoc like making your hair dry, brittle, unmanageable, static-y, curl resistant, dull, heavy and probably other stuff I can’t think of right now. It’s bad. But luckily you can kick it to the curb and send it on it’s merry way with a very easy concoction that I used on my little sister Celeste (who has hard water and was really struggling with build up). She has been so thrilled with her hair since we did this and can’t believe that all of that dry brittle ickiness was just build up!
Recipe: (this is a tough one so brace yo-self)
1/3 Cup Baking soda (I’m convinced that between baking soda, corn starch, coconut oil and duct tape  I could create anything! ) 4 T Water
Directions:
Mix together until it’s a paste. Then (starting with the ends) massage into your *hair. {I did this over the sink so I didn’t make a mess) Leave it for 10-15 minutes then wash as usual. * For recently color treated hair always try a test piece first! Celeste has colored hair and it looked vibrant and beautiful when we were done but you never know!
I hope this works wonders for you!

Alpha Hydroxy Facemask
Honey is a humectant, meaning it helps your skin retain moisture. A note from Burnes: Make sure you apply it all the way down to your collarbone. “We want our neck to age as gracefully as the skin on our face is aging,” she says.
Recipe: ½ tsp. organic fruit jelly or jam ½ tsp. honey 1 tsp. coconut milk ½ tsp. avocado
Combine all ingredients until they make a thick paste. If it’s too thick, you can add more coconut milk as needed. Apply in the shower, and leave on for five to 10 minutes before rinsing off.
