It probably is a thing of "we experience it differently" but as someone who has npd who hears narcissist get thrown around, people can and WILL use it as a diagnostic thing and as a "this asshole i don't like is a narcissist and has npd because i said so"

Also the word "psycho" is used the way "narcissist" is because it's used similarly to describe someone that they don't like regardless of whether or not they fit the symptoms

And the anxiety and anxiety disorder comparison doesn't quite fit imo because that's not related to calling someone else something; that's about a self identifier and descriptor. While yes, I have seen people use anxiety as a negative descriptor for others, its nowhere as invasive or as annoying as the usage of narcissist is.

whatever, idc if i get hate for this. i don't think you can claim "narcissist" always means "person with npd" when the disorder was named (incorrectly) after an already existing word. why are you saying people with npd aren't all selfish assholes (true) but also that the synonym for "selfish" can only refer to you? wouldn't it be better to advocate for separating them?

from our personal experience, people conflate the two all the time. when they say "narcissistic abuse" they are claiming that the person they are talking about has NPD because they're a narcissist.

it's like people calling people "psychos" as short hand for calling them psychopaths.

so there's no "advocating for the seperation" because people will ALWAYS conflate the two.
