I’m not really good at sugar-coating things, so I don’t know what else to tell you.
Other than the problem’s solved, I took care of it. And now I need a drink. Alcohol’s good for wounds, I hear.

...
Fair enough.
Definitely not the same kind of alcohol, but you look like you really couldn’t care less about the distinction. -- I’ve got the good for wounds kind in my purse, but the drinking kind is about two blocks [ she points to her left ] that way.

fosteringjane:
“It’s science, all the words are ridiculous,” she laughed. “I think you said the same thing when you first applied for the internship all those years ago. And now look at you!”
Jane smiled and shook her head as Darcy rambled on in that way she so often did. It was true, the scientist was hoping that her class would have enough students that shared her same passion and drive. But of course, Jane Fosters were rare, and the truth was many of her students would be there to fulfill a specific university requirement. Very few would be there because of their love of the source material, and even fewer would be there because of any interest in her.
Unless, of course, they wanted to ask about Thor, which she fully anticipated.
“Well, I know how college students are. But thank you for the vote of confidence. I really think it will go well, but you never really know until you’re actually doing the job.” She paused.
“You know, I don’t… think I need to practice. Not right now, at least. I want to catch up with you instead.”
“ Wait, huh? Me? Why are we talking about me now? “
Darcy’s used to being the one to make conversations jump from topic to unexpected topic -- having it done to her is a bit disconcerting. Especially since it’s coming from Jane of all people.
“ I--. I mean, things are. Things. I go to school and bug my professors, I go to work and bug Tony and Pepper, I head to your place to bug you and Thor and my nugget, I come home and bug Kasper and Tash... Lather, rinse, repeat. “ She shrugs. “ Nothing new, really. “

That’s... not all that comforting, actually.

“…A while.” Lorna replied, a short laugh ruining the illusion of innocence she had been attempting to portray.

“ I’m incredibly impressed, “ Darcy laughs. “ C’mon, I’ll buy your coffee. What’s your name? “

[ it’s impossible to keep his hands from going to her waist; even though she’s floating, he can’t help but offer that support, especially when she’s got her arms occupied ]
No, I don’t think so -
[ they’ve cuddled up together on the couch and in their beds before, but this is different… there’s no blanket or shirt between his hands and her waist, and he swallows, looking down at her floating in the water. He’s seen her get dressed before, a swimsuit and some water is no big deal — so why is he being so weird about this? ]
Can you imagine how much sand would get into his fur?
Well, I wasn’t thinking about sand in his fur but now I am!
[ Darcy pulls teasingly at his earlobe before settling her hand around the back of his neck, drumming a random beat against his skin. She wrinkles her nose then laughs again. ]
It can’t be that much worse than all the tinsel that got in his fur at Christmas, right?

Widening her eyes and frowning slightly, Lorna did her best to pull off the ‘puppy dog eyes’ look.

“ Woooooow, that face is cute. Jesus. That comes with practice -- how long have you been working on that? “

@eleazarus
–You ever get the really specific feeling that you want something, or you want to stick your nose somewhere, and you’re pretty sure no good’s gonna come of it - but you wanna do it anyway?
[He asks like he’s not already sure she gets him on this one.]
I am... intimately, dangerously familiar with that feeling, yes...
What hell are you about to bring down on yourself, Harry?

“I’m not that old, and yes, they still make Wheaties. Yes, they still put athletes on the box.” Not that it made him buy them. He honestly preferred the frosted, mini-wheats. Honestly though, shouldn’t he already be on a box? There should be collectable Burger King watches and such, honestly, they could make a sweet promotional deal and start a charity with the money.
“I’m… yeah, as much as I ever do, I guess. The time off helped I think, but I won’t lie, I feel like I probably should have been here. For everything that went down, y’know? I’ve talked to Steve, in person, had a bit of correspondence with Tony. Wanda. Saw Carol, for a little bit. Thor gave me wardrobe advice, Nat’s still off the grid. Bruce…” Well, they hadn’t caught up just yet. Neither had he and Sam. Or Barnes.
That would be interesting.
“It seems everyone is doing alright, individually… the team itself though? I don’t know how we’re doing.”
“ Hey, I’m just saying!” Darcy jokes, throwing her hands up in the air. She likes teasing Clint -- it’s a nice departure from all the seriousness she’s been surrounded by lately. Everyone’s been so wrapped up in cleanup after the mess with the Accords, and there’s been all kinds of strange stuff in the news lately...
It feels good to laugh. Until, of course, she isn’t anymore.
“ Yeah, I got nothin’ for you there. I have no idea what’s going on with the team. I haven’t seen too many people around, and I’m not sure who Tony’s heard from... “

[ Well, she’s got him there - he can feel his cheeks going red, because he can’t possibly explain the real reason - he ducks under the water in lieu of an answer and swims over until he can grab her hand ]
Ready to get in?
Yeah, thanks.
[ She tangles her fingers with his, squeezing them gently before lowering herself into the water. She makes her way over to him and then keeps going until she can wrap him up in a hug with her arms around his neck.
She can reach now that she’s floating. ]
I don’t think swimming is a thing we’ve done before now, huh? We should take Taisce to the beach soon.

“Well hats off to him.” He gives a little nod, and considers the possibility. Maybe. Clint was old enough to remember what a big deal The Dream Team had been. “I mean, if professional athletes are allowed to compete now, I don’t see any reason they would disqualify me.”
Just who would be dumb enough to bet against him, was the question? If someone was willing to, then they honestly deserved to lose their money. “I mean, I couldn’t bet on myself. That wouldn’t be acceptable… but hey, you can feel free to. I’m fine with the money that comes with being on a box of Wheaties.”
“ A box of Wheaties. Oh my god, Clint, “ Darcy giggles. “ You’re dating yourself. Nobody’s had that goal since, like... Michael Jordan was still playing for the Bulls. Do they even put athletes on Wheaties anymore? Do they even make Wheaties anymore???? ”
It’s nice to see him, she realizes, not that it should surprise her to think that. It’s always nice to see any of the Avengers, really, especially since all the mess with the Accords and Hart Island... Her smile becomes a little more fond, a little softer.
“ How’ve you been though? Taking care of yourself? “

[ Kasper half chokes - the answer to that question not exactly acceptable in this situation ]
Uh –
- the light… it’s, bright in here…
[ Darcy grins wider, shaking her head. ]
Kasper. Honey.
How many times do I have to tell you that you’re a horrible liar? Especially to me.
‘It’s bright in here.’ Please.
[ She can’t help but tease him. ]

“And how’s that worked out for him? He stick with it?” Sometimes he’s considered going back himself… he’s done some online classes, but hadn’t stuck with it. Is there any real point to it, aside from proving something to himself? To others? “It’s what it is. I mean… for the longest while, it felt like all I had going for me. It’s not Tony’s job, it’s not Banner’s job.” Another reason why the Caps probably took the stance they did. Aside from civil liberties, and such. “Can’t really picture myself doing anything else, though. Maybe clean up at the Olympics, rake in the sponsorship dollars.”
“ He did, yeah, “ Darcy grins, pride seeping from her pores. “ We had a little mini party when he finished up and everything. It was great. “ She thinks for a while then -- Kasper had worked really hard for his GED, and she’s wondering if maybe she should convince him to start thinking about college...
“ I would love to see you at the Olympics, oh my god. How many people do you think we could con out of their money by making them bet against you? ...God, I hang out with superheroes, I should know better. But c’mon, that’d be fabulous. “

“You know, I don’t… think I need to practice. Not right now, at least. I want to catch up with you instead.”
“ Yeah, now look at me -- still stumbling over all these goddamn ridiculous science words. “ She’s grinning though, fond and amused. Jane’s right; after such a long time beside Jane and Erik (and now Tony and, to some extent, Bruce), Darcy is more familiar than ever with all kinds of science-y words and ideas. She feels enriched for it, if she’s honest, but she’d never admit it out loud.
What she will always, emphatically, enthusiastically admit out loud is how much she loves Jane and how brilliant the other woman is. So she waves away the gratitude for her words -- Darcy will always live a Jane Foster Appreciation Life.
The whole shift in the momentum of their conversation leaves her reeling for a split second, but then she’s smiling and leaning her hand on her chin, eyes sparkling.
“ You mean you want juicy, juicy gossip? Cuz as much as I’d love to help you out, I’ve got nothin’ for ya. I go to school and draw stuff, I go to work and help Pepper and make sure Tony doesn’t blow anything up, I go home and eat and cuddle with my boys, then I sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat. “

“C’mon, please?” Lorna begged, purposefully dragging out the last syllable.

“ Noooope, “ Darcy shakes her head. “ I will not be a sucker for an adorable face. I’ve had too much practice standing my ground; I will not crumble now. “
