Time is Money

Is a very known expression. Such expressions are not translated the usual way (as you can have a lot of ways of translation, for example 時間は金です - literal version, suggested by google translate).

While usually any translation follows this formula:

A (source sentence) -> (usage of target language’s vocab and grammar) - > B (source sentence in target language)

Idioms work differently. With idioms, A is source IDEA, common knowledge which was adapted in various languages.

Idioms translation work like this:

A (source sentence) -> (search for similar meaning for the expression as a whole) -> B (target language’s version of source sentence)

Basically, with idioms you can’t get the translation wrong grammatically or verbally, because target language provides you with the expression as a whole. 

What is the Japanese version of “Time is Money”?

So, obviously, Japanese fans applied this translation of English proverb, and, detective fans they are, momentarily saw something interesting.
