Something something pushing each other to be healthy:

I think John would provide a certain structure to Bob's life. Even if John isn't living with a bunch of soldiers anymore, I think he'd stick to the habits of waking up early, having a spotless room, eating at the same time, etc. Which would be good to Bob bc I don't suppose he cared / could maintain routines in the past and bc (at least for me) they help me when I'm in my worst mental health moments.

At the other hand I think that Bob would make John recognize when he's being an asshole. While I can see John easily getting into a fight with, idek, Yelena or Bucky, I don't think he'd end up jumping into a fight with Bob. Bob seems really chill with people as long as they're chill with him. He's not going to have an argument with John about the plan the thunderbolts have to follow. He also doesn't have knowledge / opinion about John's whole public meltdown (unlike Bucky, who has Opinions about John being Cap). When Bob tells John that he needs to eat bc he's being an asshole to everyone or that he needs to go to sleep bc he's being defensive af, John can see that he doesn't have any hidden motive in the fight. That John is in fact taking his issues out on the team.
