Somewhat-gentle reminder that if your response to a trauma survivor opening up about their experiences is to compare their experiences to something you saw done with/said about a fictional character, you are watering down the seriousness of the conversation. Unless that specific thing was also used to harm you directly, and you’re bringing it up to share your own trauma and relate to them, it does not belong in a conversation about real abuse and real pain caused to living beings.

Discourse does not belong in spaces or conversations meant for trauma survivors, unless their trauma specifically stems from discourse. No, I don’t care that my abuser ships weird things, I care that they abused me, and I care about the potential other real life people they could harm as well.
