Her plea was quiet, but seemed to fill the whole of the room. “Show me?”

“You are drunk,” he reminded her gently. “–and should sleep–we both should,” he added before yawning. He knew they were both tired, but she sounded so small, so lost, and he’d missed her dreadfully. He slid down to kneel at the foot of the bed in front of her. “But I am a terribly weak man for you. I…will show you what I can.”

Almost as if caught in a trance, Bertrand bowed his head down and rested his forehead against Yipha’s knee. His hands wrapped around the back of her leg, one cupping her calf while the other encircled her ankle after sliding the boot there free to drop to the floor. He could feel the warmth of her skin through the silk and was sure she could feel the gust of his breath as he exhaled shakily and just basked in the ability to be here together, to hold her in his hands, real and soft and bold and his. He held her like that, kneeling at her feet like she was a goddess and he her supplicant, until he felt a faint tremble in her leg and thin fingers reached out to brush his hair from his face. “You are beautiful,” he whispered, trailing his hands up just high enough to catch the top of her stocking. He rolled it down methodically, carefully sliding the fine fabric over her heel as he worked, and set it aside before reaching for her other boot.

She arched her foot, helping him slip the leather over the curve of her instep much more slowly and purposefully than the first one, and his hand replaced it in an instant. Shaking fingers curled across her arch while his thumb stroked the bony knob of her ankle. “You are compassionate, and determined.” Bertrand leaned his temple against the side of her knee, turning himself toward her. Eyes closed, he drew his touch up higher, reverently pressing against the inside of her thigh. His hands soon followed, smoothing across where her stocking had already started slipping and dragging it slowly down her leg.

Grabbing both her naked legs with his own bare hands, senses in overdrive from the stark difference of Yipha’s smooth skin against the calluses that decorated his palms, Bertrand tenderly guided them fully closed. He bowed his head again to her, resting his brow on her knees. “You uphold the justice and care, the ideals of your order, admirably, and it is an unspeakable honor to stand by your side,” he said, before looking up to see that Yipha had pushed herself back upright and was gazing down at him with teary eyes. “I love you.”

A few months ago, I saw a tweet about ships where one person has normal, beautiful brown eyes, while the other has unsettlingly bright blue or green ones, and I wanted to play with the idea with Celes. They weren’t originally going to glow here, just stand out against a browner palette, but when I started visualizing this as moments before she commits wonderful violence on the floating continent, it just sort of… happened? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ might still come back to the idea and do one or two with Locke. ☺️

Mini-canvases!!

Recreated some cool ideas I watched on YouTube and made an even smaller 2” copy of the piece the kiddo and I painted together for virtual cocoa and canvas to match the 3” copy I’d made which my mother wanted.

It’s definitely interesting working with the nicer quality acrylics like for the top three. The paint stays wet and mixable/smearable on the canvas for far longer on top of having a thicker consistency, but it’s also much more likely to get clingy on the brush when mixing colors. It’s fun and different!
