Una banda que la apuesta al bolero, “Daniel, Me Estás Matando”
Dec 13, 2020 Por Sandra Escallon “Daniel, Me Estás Matando”: una banda que la apuesta al bolero. La banda Daniel, Me Estás Matando, un dúo compuesto por Daniel Zepeda e Iván de la Rioja, traen una propuesta musical para aquellos amantes del bolero, de esa música que ha hecho parte de varias generaciones y ha hecho que los momentos románticos sean más memorables. Y es que la banda trae este género con un concepto que ellos mismos han denominado Boleroglam, donde el ADN de las canciones es el bolero pero con nuevos elementos, que como ellos mismos dicen, lo hacen un “bolero glamuroso”. La banda de origen mexicano llega con un nuevo disco Grandes Éxitos del Boleroglam Vol. 1, el segundo disco de la banda, del cual ya se conocen seis sencillos que han puesto a suspirar a más de uno. El más reciente se llama Ya sé, una canción de despecho y que habla del final de una relación amorosa. Hablamos con Daniel sobre este nuevo sencillo y los proyectos de la banda. SE: Quisiera empezar a preguntarte sobre el concepto de Boleroglam. ¿Qué significa? DZ: Básicamente son boleros desde la composición con el lenguaje tradicional de la canción Latinoamericana y añadimos distintas cajas de ritmos, sintetizadores y otros sonidos. Es un bolero glamuroso, de ahí va el concepto. SE: Ese concepto lo vemos en su más reciente sencillo Ya sé. Cuéntame sobre esta canción, ¿cómo nació? DZ: La canción la compuso Ivan y básicamente él tiene una novia y ella se fue de vacaciones. Luego de eso, él mismo se inventó una historia en la cabeza de que la novia le empezaba a ser infiel y no le quería contestar las llamadas, y aunque nunca pasó, él inventó la historia. Al hacerlo dijo “me puse triste de imaginarlo voy a componer una canción así”. SE: El video de este sencillo es una muestra de la historia pero de una manera muy creativa. ¿Cómo llevaron esa canción a imágenes? DZ: Lo que sucedió es que la canción la subimos hace como un año y medio y le fue muy bien. El video lo hizo Materia Rosa Producciones, es decir la novia de Ivan a la que le inventaron la historia. Quisimos que todo fuera con un concepto muy rojo, renovar la paleta de colores y visualmente más limpio. La historia la llevó a cabo ella y ella la propuso. En el video vemos cómo Ivan hace berrinche porque no le contesta y yo lo estoy consolando para que nos vayamos de vacaciones. SE: Ahora, cuéntame sobre el álbum de boleros. DZ: Hay muchas canciones en el disco y muchas se quedaron por fuera, por eso este es el volumen I. Tenemos tantas que lo partimos en dos. El proceso de composición es básicamente así: cuando yo hago una canción la compongo a capela, yo tengo el hábito de estar componiendo regularmente y entonces las canciones que yo canto son las que yo hice, Hago primero la melodía y después la letra. Las canciones que hicimos juntos son Dos Cartas y Ya no es lo mismo, que casi fueron por encargo. Ya no es lo mismo fue para un especial de Youtube y Dos Cartas era porque queríamos hacer un dueto con Antonio Sánchez, el baterista que vive en Nueva York e hizo la música de la película Birdman. Por otro lado, las canciones que hizo Ivan son las que canta él, y su proceso de composición es sufrir mucho y escribir al respecto. SE: ¿Cómo llega el bolero a sus vidas? DZ: Creo que para los latinos el bolero está en nuestro ADN; entonces todos de alguna manera tenemos una conexión con ese tipo de canción. Mi abuela es cantante de bolero y cha cha cha, y yo soy baterista, y mi primer trabajo donde toque batería fue en un escenario con mi abuela. Entonces aprendí su repertorio que eran de estos dos géneros. Ivan, por su parte, le gusta mucho los Los Ángeles Negros, José José, y, aunque, no son boleros son música dramática y una consecuencia de los boleros. A mi me gustan también y José José es el vínculo romántico que tenemos en común. Lo que sucede es que yo por lo menos como a los 14 años, una edad en la que te das cuenta que te gustan las niñas y te enamoras, bajé música música romántica que escuchaban mis papás, abuela, mi ascendencia. Me dí cuenta que me gusta mucho y la guardé y años después me sirvió para esta banda. SE: ¿Algún bolero en específico que hace parte de tu música? DZ: Tenemos varios playlist en Spotify y escuchó por ejemplo a Álvaro Carrillo, siempre tengo música de él, de Los Panchos también. Descubrí un grupo de boleros llamado Los Montejo y son lo máximo porque hacían lo que nosotros queríamos pero en los 60s con baterías y sintetizadores y una propuesta chistosa. Los tomamos como referencia. Toda nuestra lista de spotify tiene música que nos gusta. SE: ¿Con quién les gustaría tener una colaboración en el futuro? DZ: Nuestros sueños son con personas que ni conocemos como con Intocable o Nathy Peluso. Y con los que conocemos nos gustaría colaborar con Ramona y Daniela Spalla. SE: ¿Cuándo viene el volumen II del disco? DZ: Primero queremos dejar el volumen I hasta febrero y el disco del volumen II ya empezamos a grabar. SE: ¿Qué quieren dejar con el bolero a las nuevas generaciones? DZ: Me gusta que a la gente joven le guste la canción; simplemente hacemos canciones pensando en la estética y en sentir bonito. El impacto depende de la gente que la escucha y cómo la dedica. Hasta ahorita parece que la gente nos relaciona con una banda que está retomando estas situaciones y le generan nostalgia y razones para musicalizar el amor y desamor.

Los Angeles, CA (October 22, 2020) - Colombian singer, songwriter, actor, entrepreneur and one of the biggest influences in the Latin music industry, Carlos Vives, received last night the Billboard Hall of Fame Award. He received the honor in celebration of his artistic career and his incredible influence in multiple fields. In addition to receiving the prestigious award, Vives took over the stage at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida delighting his fans from around the world with a medley of his greatest hits. The award ceremony took place last night at 8 pm/7c and was broadcast on the Telemundo network. The award was presented by Emilio Estefan, who has been a key piece in Vives' career and who opened the doors of his studio when the Colmbian star first arrived in Miami. When presenting him with the award, Estefan let Carlos know how proud and honored he feels to have been part of this special moment. Vives received the award with much excitement after his explosive presentation: “Almost 30 years ago, I decided to make my music in an original way, without copying the genres of that time. I searched for my own pop and rock sounds of my town apart from the traditional music of Colombia, hence a new sound was born. At that time, much of the industry did not see it but the public did ... Today, I thank Billboard for recognizing it tonight, and I want to share it with the entire Vives Team; with my record label Sony; Gaira Música Local; my manager Walter Kolm, because he always believed in me; my wife Claudia, my children and my country Colombia. And a message to the new generations, each of you are unique and original. Be the same with your music. Thank you Billboard.” The influential artist received this award for his successful singing career, outstanding performance as an actor, television host, judge of “La Voz” (The Voice) and owner of restaurant and music club Gaira. Moreover, he is the founder of “Tras la Perla,” (Behind the Pearl), an initiative to improve people’s quality of life in his native Santa Marta and its surroundings, with educational and environmental programs. And to top it off, he is also the founder of the Rio Grande music school in Bogotá, where children develop artistic skills. In addition to receiving the award, Carlos Vives blew the house away with a medley of his greatest hits, “Cumbiana”, “La Bicicleta”, “Gota Fría” and “Pa’ Mayte”. With a spectacular live performance, the artist filled the stage with great energy, culture and vibrant colors. The performance featured a series of images, taking viewers on a musical journey through various stages, and included a recreation of the colorful buildings from Vives’ hometown meanwhile dancers dressed in traditional Colombian Vallenato clothing joined him throughout the performance. Without a doubt, Carlos Vives is a worthy representative of his culture and carries it highly wherever he performs.
The biggest night in latin music coincided with Billboard’s Latin Music Week, a three-day virtual experience dedicated to Latin music, culture, and entertainment taking place October 20-23. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Carlos Vives took part in an intimate conversation with Gustavo Dudamel on the “From Local Inspiration To International Stage” panel at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 21st. His most recent album, Cumbiana, explores the origins of cumbia in the deepest Colombian roots and in the instruments created by native peoples, highlighted in the documentary "The Lost World of Cumbiana." With this imagery, Vives brings his personal journey to life, one that began 25 years ago with another one of his renowned albums, La Tierra del Olvido. Not only has Carlos Vives won multiple international awards, he has sold over 20 million albums world-wide and his songs have been featured 33 times on the hottest of Latin music on Billboard. A total of 26 of his songs have made the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, thirteen of which made the top 10 and five reached No. 1. He has placed 26 titles on the Latin Airplay chart, 15 of which topped the list, including his most recent hit "Si Me Das Tu Amor," featuring Wisin. Meanwhile, he managed to place a total of 27 titles in the Tropical Airplay List, of which eight reached No. 1, including "Hoy Tengo Tiempo (Pinta Sensual)" which charted at #1 for six weeks in 2018.

Este gran honor le fue entregado para celebrar su carrera artística y su gran influencia en diferentes ámbitos. Además de recibir el prestigioso premio, Vives se apoderó del escenario del BB&T Center en Sunrise, Florida para deleitar a toda su fanaticada alrededor del mundo con un medley de sus grandes éxitos. La ceremonia de premiación se llevó a cabo anoche a las 8pm/7c y se transmitió a través de la cadena Telemundo. El Premio fue entregado por el maestro Emilio Estefan, quien ha sido una pieza clave en la carrera de Vives pues le abrió las puertas de su estudio cuando llegó a la ciudad de Miami. Al entregarle el premio, Estefan le dejó saber su orgullo y el honor que siente de haber sido parte de este momento especial. El influyente artista recibió este premio por su exitosa carrera como cantante, actor, presentador de televisión, juez de “La Voz”, dueño del club y templo de la música en Colombia, Gaira. Además, es el fundador de la fundación “Tras la Perla”, una iniciativa para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas en su natal Santa Marta y sus alrededores, con programas educativos y ambientales. Por otra parte, la Entrega Anual de los Premios coincide con la Semana de la Música Latina de Billboard, una experiencia virtual de tres días dedicada a la música latina desde el 20 al 23 de octubre. En la celebración de su 30 aniversario, Carlos Vives se unió en una conversación junto a Gustavo Dudamel este jueves 22 de octubre a las 10:30 am en el panel “From Local Inspiration to International Stage”. Nailah Blackman is most strongly associated with the soca genre. Nailah Blackman’s grandfather, the late Garfield Blackman, also known as Lord Shorty or Ras Shorty I, invented the style of music known as Jamoo and is also credited with inventing soca as a means of reinvigorating calypso music. Nadia Batson was a runner-up in the Power Category at the 2007 International Soca Monarch with her song “My Land” with Kees Dieffenthaller. Patrice Roberts came to national attention in 2005 with the huge hit collaboration “The Islands” with Bunji Garlin. El Festival CortoCircuito en línea: la ventana a otras culturas a través del cine

NUEVA YORK - No cabe duda que cualquier expresión artística es un puente para escuchar las historias desde otro punto de vista, para aprender de otras culturas, para enriquecer el alma y para despertar los sentidos de diferentes maneras. La ciudad de Nueva York siempre se ha caracterizado por esa riqueza cultural donde los festivales, la danza, el cine, la música, el arte y la diversidad hacen que cada uno de los eventos en la Gran Manzana sean una maga de oportunidades para romper barreras. Debido a la pandemia muchos de esos eventos han tenido que cancelarse o posponerse; sin embargo, la gran mayoría, como CortoCircuito, un festival gratuito que muestra cortos de España, latinoamérica o de latinos en los Estados unidos, traen la experiencia en línea. CortoCircuito estará desde el 4 de junio hasta el 11 de junio trayendo una variedad de cortos con un programa para enriquecer y aprender sobre la creatividad de artistas latinoamericanos y las historias de estos países llenos de cultura. El programa viene en colaboración del Instituto Cervantes en Nueva York. En el programa el público encontrarán cortometrajes como Así son las Cosas (Argentina) de Juan Pablo Zaramella. Mask Impact is a project started to help with the production of much-needed N95-like Masks on commercial and consumer 3D printers for use in hospitals locally, nationally, and eventually globally. Ability to Print Life-Saving Masks Can Help Mitigate Nationwide Shortage CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The potential answer to America’s shortage of medical masks took a step toward resolution on April 13 when nearly 100 3-D printed masks were delivered to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital (MUSC). The innovative production of the masks was the brainchild of Dr. James Bezjian, a professor at The Citadel. After consulting with MUSC, Bezjian and some of his students came up with the idea of creating N95 equivalent masks using 3-D laser printers, a potentially revolutionary way of producing the life-saving medical gear. The primary challenge the Charleston-based college faced was a lack of 3-D printers on campus, a problem Citadel senior West Courtney worked tirelessly to solve. Courtney began brainstorming ideas with his college roommate, Will Golden, an exercise that led him to reach out to colleges, universities and public school systems across the Palmetto State. Courtney’s effort resulted in a network that produced the masks that were delivered to MUSC, the final step in fast-tracking FDA approval. Courtney’s relationship with Will Golden also led to Golf Tourism Solutions, a Myrtle Beach-based golf marketing and technology company. GTS CEO Bill Golden, Will’s father, embraced the opportunity to help. GTS built the website MaskImpact.com, allowing people across the globe to register and download files necessary to print the masks, if they have access to a 3-D laser printer. “People across the nation are looking for ways to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ability for anyone with access to a laser printer to produce a life-saving mask for our healthcare workers could be a game-changer,” West said. “People from across the state of South Carolina united to make this possible, and we certainly hope the effort spreads across the United States and even the globe.” Printing of the masks takes 4-5 hours, highlighting the need to utilize printers that might otherwise be dormant, but assembly takes less than 10 minutes. The cost to produce a mask using 3-D printing technology is approximately $4. While the idea for the masks was born at Citadel, the success of the project was enabled by the cooperative spirit of the higher education community in South Carolina. Coastal Carolina University, which has partnered with Citadel to advance the effort, embraced the effort from the beginning. CCU President David A. DeCenzo issued a call for institutions and organizations statewide to contribute their 3D printers to the cause. Since then, S.C. Commission for Higher Education (CHE) applied for and received funds from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to support state universities in printing the masks. “This project shows how we can all come together in innovative ways in times of great need to provide a service that directly and immediately impacts those on the front lines,” DeCenzo said.
