I’m blogging about bathrooms because...

For the traveler, this is a blog about the restrooms I’ve encountered in my travels; and insight into the best and the worst. For the blogger, this is a series of strange, yet often relatable stories, in a variety of restrooms. For anyone, this is an insight into my life, which has been more frequently than most, spent in the bathroom. After a series of extensive testing, unanswered questions, and a lot of sickness, I was finally diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at 10 years old. Here’s a bunch of science to help define it if you’re interested. It’s basically a disease of the large intestines. Due to this illness, I have spent a lot of time urgently needing to use the bathroom because I get very sick. The old baño has become my best friend, worst enemy, and a necessary evil sanctuary. I’ve decided to turn an overall negative part of my life into something more positive. In hindsight almost everything can be funny, right? This part of my life may never truly be a hindsight situation (its not really curable), but a lot of funny ‘shit’ happens as a result.  I also love to travel and try to explore the world as much as I can. I’ve had the privilege of seeing some extravagant bathrooms, the misfortune of enduring some of the worst, and the delight of experiencing some odd and hilarious encounters. This is not about my illness, but rather the bathrooms and the encounters into which my illness has led me. I’m beginning to understand what it really means to be in a good restroom.  And here are the stories and photos; the good, the bad, the average… oh, and a little strange. Enjoy!
