In all his time at Cabot Creek, this wasn’t his first lockdown.
He had been leaning against a desk, his butt already sore, when Lena came and smiled over at him. Hector leaned over, playfully bumping shoulders with her before turning his attention back to his phone.
“Ah freedom. Out of the slammer for a week and then locked in a building. Company is better though.” He winked at her from behind his phone. Honestly, he thought anybody would be better company than the grump who had guarded his cell. Lena at least wouldn’t threaten to beat him up.
“You know I was supposed to be getting back into classes by now? Missed the first few days for jail and it’s my final year of graduate school. My graduate prof won’t even look me in the eye anymore and things keep ‘popping up’ right before our meetings and he has to cancel. How am I supposed to graduate when I can’t even consult anybody?”
He shook his head and passed over his phone to show her the picture he’d blown up. “Look - kitty.”
Right away the two fell back into their playful friendship. She didn’t know what she had even been worried about. There was no way that this happy, jovial person was capable of hurting someone.
“That’s super unfair... Have you considered going to the dean to see if you can get it sorted. You weren’t charged or convicted or anything they shouldn’t treat you like a criminal.” She felt sorry for him. All his life she was sure he was used to getting everything he wanted handed to him, but now it seemed like everything was just being suddenly dumped on his head.
She took the phone out of Hector’s hand mostly to humour him. She looked at the screen to see a pretty adorable kitten with huge eyes and huge ears. “That is adorable,” she added sincerely.

“Absolutely it’s my way of getting laid. And if you don’t find me the perfect girl, I’m going to hold it personally against you.” Comparing their differing intoxication levels, Hector felt he may be going into the challenge with a bit of an advantage.
He pulled his phone from out of his pocket and selected the Timer app, setting it for 30 minutes. He showed it to Lena. “In thirty minutes we meet back here with our prospects. Hottest wins.” And with his final words, Hector pressed the START button, put away his phone and set off towards the deep throws of the party.
It wasn’t until he was surrounded by a mass of bodies that he realized he had no idea what Lena’s type was.
This was a terrible idea.
He paused to look around the room and take in all the girls dancing about, moving their bodies to pounding music and holding their drinks high. Did he go for the drunkest one? No. With the state Lena was in they would just drunkenly tumble onto the bathroom floor and pass out. Maybe in vomit. And something about it just felt… unethical.
One girl however stood out to him. She was standing with a group of girls near the entrance of the living room, nursing a Smirnoff. She had medium length blonde hair with tips of pink. Her black dress was loose with a corset belt - that was what they were called right?
Yeah… Lena would like her.
He walked up, offering her a drink and starting with a simple “Hey”
Lena couldn’t tell if this was a genius idea or a terrible idea, but at this point she didn’t really care either way. It sounded mostly like it would be a blast.
“You’re a pervert, Hector,” she laughed. “Okay, meet you back here in half an hour.”
She walked into the main room of the party after getting herself another drink, looking around for anyone who was the perfect level of kind of drunk and also hot. Lena was pretty sure that if she had been sober she would think this was a terrible idea, maybe even a little sexist, but at this point, she was all about it.
Lena took a few moments to scan the room for a girl who was either alone, or with a group of girls. She felt that she had a distinct advantage being a woman because it was less intimidating for her to approach a group than a random dude.
Eventually, she came upon a girl sitting alone on a couch. She had long dark hair curled expertly. She was wearing a pair of blue skinny jeans with a white t-shirt tucked into the front of them, paired with heeled booties. The outfit was perfectly simple, though she wasn’t entirely sure Hector would appreciate how put together this simple outfit was - in any case she decided to approach the girl.
“Hey, how’s it going?” Lena stopped in front of the sitting girl, having to yell a bit to be heard over the music.

“NICE!” James fist pumped as though this was the best compliment he ever did receive. He was already pouring tequila into two shot glasses. “’Course I do. Bottoms up!” He handed one of the glasses to Lena before throwing his back.
Lena threw her drink back at the same time as James before pouring herself a vodka soda. “Maybe we should go sit down before your fall over,” she said with a laugh, trying to lead him out of the kitchen.

Given his questioning disposition and confusion about his sexuality, the LGBTQ club naturally piqued Asher’s interest. So he attended their first meeting, stuck around for a bit. He smiled when the girl approached him. “Hey, I’m Asher,” he introduced himself. “So…your club here looks interesting.”
Lena responded first with a small laugh, “well it’s not my club. It’s a nice place though.” She looked around a bit before falling into the typical small talk she kind of hated but knew was necessary when meeting new people. “Are you new? I don’t think I’ve seen you around campus really before.”

Lockdown Part 1 || Hector
The lockdown felt like it had been going on for an eternity, she couldn’t remember if it had been 5 minutes or 2 hours since she first heard the announcement over the intercom and the near deafening alarm.
There was some comfort in the company of the room, she was surrounded by people she liked and trusted, knowing that at least four of the people she cared about were as safe as she was.
At this point, Lena had moved to sit with Hector. It was the first time she had really seen him since his release from jail. Of course, she had never seriously thought he did anything to the missing professor, but there was a small nagging voice telling her to be careful.
At least with him being in the room, Lena was almost certain he had nothing to do with this lockdown.
“Hey, how’s it going Prince? Enjoying your freedom?” She asked with a warm smile.

annixxolsen :
She had been fetched on her way to the gym to teach a class; the events marching right into her carefully planned day. Upon entering Room 115, Anni dropped her bag to the floor with a loud thud and plunked down next to it, right on the floor, exclaiming “I swear, this is the worst day of my life!”
She let her head sink into her hands, unable to look at anybody else in the room for a few moments. She could feel it coming like a tsunami wave and only her breathing to keep her swimming, to tell herself that it would be okay. But that took all of her concentration, all the mental energy she had at this moment.
Lena couldn’t figure out why Hector would want to meet at the Fine Arts Centre of all places on campus, but she had been relieved to hear from him at all since his release.
When the alarm first sounded, she had just made it into the building. She could hear chaos ensue around campus instantly as the announcement was made about the lockdown. Lena’s first instinct was to find asylum in a locked room, when she was quickly ushered into Room 115 with a few other students, most of them she knew.
She sighed with relief at the people already safe in the room. Part of her was especially relieved to see that Hector seemingly had nothing to do with this lockdown.
It had only been a few moments after Lena had sat down that she saw a familiar blond head walk into the room, throw her bag down, and sit with her head in her hands.
Unsure of how to react, she reached over to rub a few reassuring circles in the other girl’s back. “This has been one hell of a semester already,” she sighed.

rhysrainer :
The first week back at school had already been a flurry of activity — crazy parties, laser tag, and already an investigation into a murder followed swiftly by an arrest. It felt as though life had taken a dramatic swerve to the side, shoving them all off track as thoroughly as it could.
It hadn’t taken much to get drunk every night that week for free, event after event making the perfect breeding ground for booze at every turn, but Rhys wasn’t ready for it to be over. Even if he had to pay for his own cocktails, even if he had to force someone else to have fun with him; there was one thing he was certain of: he was going to get smashed if he could.
Tugging Lena by the arm, he let out a laugh as she stood there, raising both brows in her direction. “Come on, Lena… I’ll buy you three martinis if you drink with me,” Rhys offered, giving her a smirk as he took her hand between both of his own. “Pretty please? Don’t make me pout, you know I’m going to win if I do, so you might as well save me the trouble,” he joked, rocking back on the heels of his books. “Besides, I think we could all use a drink after being investigated for murder. Can you believe they think someone here did it? Please, as though someone would come back to school if they killed a teacher.”
@eliasgoeseast
The first week back had been an experience for Lena. Not only had classes begun and parties been held, but she and many others had been questioned by police in connection to the professors disappearance, and Hector had been arrested. It was ridiculous to assume Hector actually had anything to do with the disappearance, but still she hoped that him getting off had more to do than just his fathers money.
She had decided on The Electric Martini as a way to blow off steam, though she had no intention of doing anything but hanging out. Drinking too much this early in the semester was bound to set her on a path of some kind of self-destruction, which she just couldn’t afford this close to med-school applications.
Rhys was standing at the bar, looking down on Lena expectantly. It was nearly impossible to ignore that blond mop. She laughed along with him, allowing herself to be pulled in the direction of alcohol. “Three martinis is excessive, although if you’re paying, I can’t resist.”
The pair settled with their first of probably many drinks. “Can you believe they actually arrested someone for that too?”

How long did it take for a coffee? Judging by the amount of people staggered around looking a bit impatient – must be a wait. Tapping her fingers against her thigh she gave a glance around. Everyone looked nice enough, but that didn’t exactly say anything.
Hearing a voice off the the side her attention quickly snapped that way. “Oh!” Half a smile appeared on her lips, “no, honestly. It’s crazy to think something like that could happen anywhere, let alone here.” Was it? It had been the entire reason she’d applied. “Do you know the guy they took in?”
She thought about that question for a moment. How well did she actually know Hector? They had hung out quite a few times, though mostly when they had been drunk. She didn’t imagine he would be capable of something like murder, but then again, did she even really know?
“Uh... Yeah, kind of. Not super well, I guess. I don’t think he would murder anyone thought.”

“Pfffft,” James laughed, prodding her gently on the shoulder. “You’re the coolest. You’re like mother of dragons cool.” He grabbed her arm gently and tugged her towards the kitchen. “’Course m’lady. What have you? Rum, vodka, tequila. beer?”
“Okay, you’re King in the North cool, then.” She laughed, allowing herself to be pulled to the kitchen, knowing she was no where near drunk enough for James right now. “You wanna do a tequila shot together?”

She smiled at the guy handing her the coffee she had ordered and handed over the money, before turning back to Lena. She sighed and took a sip, before answering her. “I don’t understand it either, and my only guess would be that he gave the men who were interviewing him some lip” she shrugged, shaking her head. “I don’t know why they’re suddenly investigating, it’s been two years”.
“I’m Melody by the way. I don’t think we’ve ever been properly introduced”.
Lena laughed, not because any part of this situation, but because she was probably right. Hector was smart and kind, but he wasn’t known for being tight lipped in any kind of situation. “Yeah,” she smiled “he does love sarcasm.”
She stuck out her hand at Melody’s introduction, “I’m Lena.”

Well, there went that option. Lena’s family, Anni knew, also lived so far away that she definitely wouldn’t be traveling home every weekend. Still, that left “being really busy” and “hooking up with someone (a male someone)”. And in between, talking like friends do. She was doing good with that right now, and Anni felt like she would otherwise definitely miss Lena’s ease and the harmony she always seemed to radiate. Sounded like her family life was helping her with that, unlike with Anni’s own background of being an only child, constant moves and a forever lingering fear that she was not good enough for her parents.
“What did you actually do after high school and before coming here?” Anni asked, genuinely curious. “Sorry if you already told me, my brain is a sieve sometimes.”
She laughed along with Lena even though damn, she really could have done with a stress reliever. “I never find the people that are stress relievers. I only ever seem to find the people that need a second mom.” Oh God, awesome, why was she saying stuff like that? “Not you, I mean, just…I tend to, you know? And don’t worry, I’m not gonna be holed up in my room all the time. You can always come get me when there’s a party at the house and I’ll do my best to have time for that.” Was bound to happen anyways sooner or later, better get used to the perspective, right?
She put on an expression of mock disappointment: “Believe it or not, with all my traveling, I’ve never been to Santa Fe - there aren’t? So who’s interesting here?”
It seemed like they were to remain on the topic of Lena herself, which wasn’t nearly as interesting as talking about Anni. Her stories of traveling were always more interesting than Lena’s own cookie cutter life.
“After high school I was really torn and had no idea what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go to school so I spent a lot of my time trying to decide. I basically just worked and saved money.” She stopped briefly before realizing how incredibly boring she must sound, before continuing, “eventually I decided against the New Mexico heat.”
She chuckled as Anni began to ramble again. It seemed the other girl was always tripping over her own words in an attempt to say the right thing, or to prevent saying the wrong thing.
“I didn’t think you meant me, I don’t think I was ever looking for a second mom,” she laughed as politely as possible, trying not to actually insult the other girl.
“Lots of people are interesting here, you for example,” she answered nonchalantly, “but also I just like that there seems to be every different kind of person around here.

“And sweaty in the middle of a field after practice? Not so hot then are you?” Hector bumped her gently as he leaned against the kitchen counter. Not that it was true. He had, in fact, heard the very opposite by many guys on the rugby team. A group of them would gather after their practice and go watch the girls finish up, and they never failed to make a comment about what they considered the more attractive girls of the team. Hector had heard more than enough about Lena’s perfectly sculpted butt - he’d tried to join in, but had always felt just a little too uncomfortable.
“It’s a little challenge called Wingman. Each of us find the other the best girl for them at the party. If they agree to make out with the other person, you win.”
“Especially sweaty after a practice,” she replied jokingly with a wink. She was really feeling the effects of the alcohol now. She grabbed onto the counter for support, glad that for at least a few moments there was something else besides herself to hold her up.
Rugby was the last thing she wanted to be reminded of right now - having to attend practices between studying always felt like she was being pulled in multiple directions. On one hand, rugby always gave her sense of incredible freedom, but it also gave her a sense of incredible guilt knowing there’s always something she could be working on. Still, she was pretty sure rugby kept her sane.
Lena zoned out for a moment, focusing on the rhythm of the music and hardly paying attention to her surroundings.
She was brought back to earth by Hector’s response.
“Is this just your way to get laid, Prince?” She laughed a little harder than the situation would normally allow, thanks to the alcohol. “Okay, I’m down.”

princeinname :
The party was well under way. Hector had spent a large part of the afternoon filling a cart or two with alcohol and bringing it back to his apartment. Valuables have been moved out of the way, doors had been locked, and quickly his normal living space had erupted into noise and motion. Hector has made his rounds through the space, greeting everybody he knew and those he didn’t. His snapchat was a burst of blurry photos, and selfies. People singing into the camera and screaming his name.
Hector had never felt more at home.
He’d been working his way through a few cups of beer during the night, getting a nice buzz on and loosening him up. He made his way into the kitchen seeking a refill when he bumped into a girl in a tight red dress. She spun around, and he smiled.
“Lena.”
Her lips were a shade darker than her dress, and her eyes were alight with music and energy. Her lips were separated by a flash of white as she smiled and threw her arms around Hector. He laughed, hugging her back and releasing her. She’d clearly been into some stronger booze than Hector had - or more of it. He grabbed her hand to pull her out of the doorway and into a corner, hoping to speak with her outside of a quick hello. “You look hot as fuck. I swear I didn’t recognize you at first.” That much at least was true.
He had first met Lena at rugby practice. He played with the men, she played with the woman, and their paths had never quite crossed outside quick glances. But for one practice they decided to mix teams up and play scrimmage. Lena had been chosen as captain, and Hector her second choice on the team. He’d stopped after to talk to her and exchange phone numbers, and since then the two always seemed to find each other at every party.
“I’ve got a challenge for you.”
A night without inhibitions was exactly what was needed before Lena really dove into studying for her finals, she would be earlier than most students to start but it was imperative that aced every test.
In her previous years at Cabot she had gotten to know Hector and his parties well, and they were always a thing of legend. There was always plenty of booze, and plenty of bodies, and the music was always perfectly curated. She was looking forward to tonight, even though she wasn’t exactly sure who would be in attendance.
Lena always took the time to get dressed to the nines for a party, and tonight she decided on a stunning red dress that hugged her exactly right. She ensured her signature curly hair was frizz-less and high, and threw on a dark shade of red lipstick. She knew she looked good, and she embraced.
She stopped first in the kitchen where the booze called home and poured herself two vodkas with ginger ale. She downed the first one quickly, walking away with the second one to sip.
For most of the night, Lena wandered the house making small talk and dancing when it was a particularly good song, all the while getting increasingly more intoxicated. She felt more safe at one of Hector’s parties than at most others.
Lena turned around suddenly when a larger body bumped into her and she was then face to face with the man of the hour himself. Not even thinking she threw her arms around him in a tight embrace.
“Hector! Killer party, as usual.”
She allowed herself to be pulled outside, thankful for the cool, fresh Vermont air she hadn’t realized she’d been craving.
“Excuse you, I always look hot as fuck - even four Red Bulls into a cram session.” She laughed, taking another sip of her newly filled drink. “What’s your challenge, charmer?”
