no but more generally, i have been thinking about how the one place the wayne kids probably do get a lot of attention from is true crime enthusiasts/conspiracy theorists/trauma gawkers, and how awkward that brand of scrutiny makes things like, say, hiding your child’s connections to a clandestine organization of ecoterrorist assassins, or even just stuff like the tim fake uncle episode
like, it’s less that society as a whole pays a lot of attention to your comings and goings, and more that if your cover stories don’t have an ironclad paper trail behind them, sooner or later some amateur sleuth is going to tease out the inconsistencies and bring them up in a podcast episode arguing that you, personally, killed jason todd
(”i was twelve,” tim says indignantly, but, like, if you can take over a fortune 500 company at seventeen surely you can arrange for someone to be murdered at twelve? qed.)

so not to make everything about red robin (2009) but i just want us all to consider
red robin (2009): dick confronts his passively suicidal younger brother before he leaves gotham; attempts to dissuade him from the self-destructive quest he’s about to undertake out of grief and misplaced guilt; tries to get him to see a therapist. this turns out to be the wrong move on several different levels: tim is hurt that dick doesn’t believe in him, tries to fight him, then leaves the country and doesn’t talk to anyone for months; also he turns out to be right about the salient facts of bruce being alive; also also he almost dies multiple times.
robin (2021): dick tracks down his passively suicidal younger brother who has recently left gotham; notably does not fight or try to dissuade him from the self-destructive quest he’s undertaking out of grief and misplaced guilt; expresses trust in him and belief in his abilities, but also plants a tracker on him so he can know where the fuck his little brother is in the event of an emergency. this also turns out to be the wrong move somehow (i mean i’m guessing but … gestures.)
rip to dick :( he tries so hard what more do you want from him :((( how does one stop brothers from running into the jaws of death and also ra’s al ghul :(

Week ten of ✨PENNYWORTH MANOR!✨, everyone's favorite reality show about voting people into Pennyworth Manor, the new happy family mansion Bruce constructed so everyone could play happy family in it, has begun! Rejoice! Don't think about Failsafe. Or the meta prisons that have been constructed to hold the world's superheroes and -villains. Or about how Bruce is a terrible father.
Last week, we voted in Harper and Cullen Row! Honestly, this one is probably long overdue. Why haven't you given them bedrooms in the Manor already, Bruce? Are you a homophobe?? Do you hate gay people??
The current inhabitants of Pennyworth Manor are: Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Duke Thomas, Damian Wayne, Colin Wilkes, Jean-Paul Valley, Lonnie Machin, Maps Mizoguchi, Bane, Julia Pennyworth, Talia al Ghul, Alan Scott, and Harper and Cullen Row. (Dick and Barbara visit occasionally.)
Our theme for this week's voting is: "Oh, no. You're so small."
Feel free to use the notes to explain your reasoning, make your case for your chosen inhabitant, or even nominate characters for future weeks. ✨✨The warm beneficence of Pennyworth Manor should be open to all.✨✨

tbh people in this fandom can get really disparaging of the idea of legacy mantles and legacy heroes and it makes me sad. legacies and legacy heroes are great! and they're a huge part of what makes the dcu great!
(in dick's case i understand the bitterness better because of the circumstances under which robin was taken from him -- at least, in post-crisis -- but it still makes me sad.)
