seeing discourse online about the lack of women in oppenheimer is so unserious. this is a movie about a man that created the atomic bomb that killed hundreds of thousands of people and how this type of weapon should have never made its way into the hands of man and people online are like “well why didn’t they hire more women?”

i don’t think complaining that you didn’t get to see more women commit war crimes is the feminist take you think it is

EDIT: and since people are saying that the critique is actually just that the female characters aren’t fully fleshed out. none of the side characters in this movie really are. it’s a biopic about oppenheimer and so much of the film occurs through the prism of his own mind, that’s the focus. this film was never going to have prominent female characters or a feminist voice, nor should it, it’s not that movie. there are many valid criticisms of christopher nolan and how he writes female characters but some of this discourse is misplaced

“YES she has giant gauntlets powered by hextech magic but she can easily take those off and fight bare handed. If ANYONE is gonna have a fist fight, you BET Vi is gonna be there. Punching is her whole THING.”

“She's cool. Omg poll runner do you understand how cool and how gay she is? Do you?? Also she's legit a really good fighter who doesn't have super powers, so that's a plus.”

“She rules & kicks ass, enough said”

“Badass fighter, especially with her fists. While she does use a weapon, its just Bigger Fists. Even without the weapon she can hold her own against people on suped up drugs or with powered up robot arms. Tendency to be poor at Blocking but just shows she can take even big hits and still get back up.”

Another thing the Barbie movie made me realize is how many movies "made for men" I've watched with some guys friends of mine (like Fast and Furious).

I go to the cinema, watch the movie, happily listen to their thoughts about it and say I enjoyed my time. I ignore how bad the story may have been and enjoy my time because he is enjoying his time.

But when it comes to a movie to which I emotionally connect so deeply as I did to Barbie, I don't see the same effort coming from them to understand why I or any of our girl friends enjoyed our time wearing pink and watching a movie about a doll.

Just a thought that occurred me
