reminder to worldbuilders: don't get caught up in things that aren't important to the story you're writing, like plot and characters! instead, try to focus on what readers actually care about: detailed plate tectonics

Writing advice from my uni teachers:

If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.

You took my hand and held me, For once I was alright

its almost 3 am and i saw a fanart and i went into focus mode

why do i do this to myself???

anyways have heiscara light hurt and comfort and it does have scars involved

Rows of scars that were penetrated on his soft skin. A comparable shape would be stars in the night sky. It could be a beautiful sight to see, but the story behind it is cruel. 

Heizou still couldn't believe this happened to Kuni. "Did it hurt?"

"It only felt like some small needles that Dottore did on me before, nothing too painful. It's still a drag though back then." He sighed. Many stories behind those lines of words, ones the detective recognizes.

Heizou only stares at the sight of Kuni's back. He wonders if his partner thinks it's hideous. Nothing, but scars to remind him of what he did before. Painful memories. Heizou wished he could numb it, a temporary relief that he would do forever. 

"May I touch it?" He asked.

"What's with that change of tone?" Kuni stops there before he could utter another sentence. He probably wanted to make a snarky comment, but didn't. "Go ahead… Don't make me repeat myself."

"I promise I'll be careful." Heizou smiled when Kuni looked back.

Even though the detective's offense mechanism is mostly his fists and he's worried that his hands might be a bit rugged. Cautiously, his hands feathered over the puppet's back. Slight touches to not alarm yet his partner flinches. Heizou sadly understands.

It only takes a moment. The puppet's body relaxes and his shoulders aren't tense. Heizou continues. He gently lays his fingers first, feeling the scars and bumps. Finally, the palm of his hands rests on the skin. 

Silence beckons either of them to speak out warnings. Someone pushing away. Anything eventful to make this moment stops. 

Yet Kuni trusts him.

So, Heizou caressed the painful star-like scars, entranced by this like a curious child. He can't make it disappear. He's not a magician or a doctor. A simple detective who wants to see the truth and he has it. His conclusion? 

Comfort it.

Love it.

Then Kuni's body shakes and Heizou stops immediately. He gets a bit closer to see his partner's face. Only to be covered in tears and Kuni trying to stifle the noises.

"I'm so sorry-" Then Heizou's hands were grabbed and they wrapped the puppet's stomach. Kuni's hands are still holding it.

A click in the detective's brain went off. He brings his crying partner closer and rests his head on Kuni's back. If Heizou has to keep holding him to comfort him? He'll do it for years and years.
