i just realized that since big hero 6 takes place in 2032, if it was real hiro's parents just recently died or would soon because they died when he was 3 and he would be turning 4 in 2022

let's not think about the 2019-2022 pandemic going on

let's not think about how such a pandemic causing his parents' death would make Tadashi grow up to want to provide better free universal healthcare and lead him to majoring in engineering to create a "personal healthcare companion"

let's not think about how Cass relies on her cafe to provide for her family and that maybe she was so unwilling to close was because there was a time when it had to be closed and it was difficult to take care of a 3 year old and 10 year old

let's not think about how they are canonically a low-income partially poc family (reasoning: hiro received a full grant instead of full scholarship (honestly he probably got both and used the scholarship money for his projects); grants are for low income students.)

I know we all laugh about how quickly we as viewers just accepted the whole dance sequence as real without batting an eye but let’s talk about how the umbrellas just accepted the fact that this flying cube called Christopher is their brother from another timeline without batting an eye and how the sparrows just accepted Five the freaking teenager as their 30 years old brother from another timeline without batting an eye or questioning it. So you know you can’t really blame us.

no but but the baymax! series is everything bc this is exactly what tadashi wouldve wanted for his robot

a tiny bit of good news. so the new baymax series on disney+ is about baymax the healthcare robot going around the city helping people with their medical needs. i haven’t watched the full series yet, but i saw a clip on tiktok that ABSOLUTELY guarantees i will.

so in the clip, baymax is in a store in the aisle with menstrual products, and asks a woman who’s there what he should get. (i’m guessing the person he’s helping got their period and sent him to find something?) the woman shows him the tampons she usually gets, and then another woman chimes in that she personally finds pads more comfortable, and then a man wearing a shirt with the trans flag on it says he always gets this specific kind, and then a middle aged dude chimes in with “my daughter likes these!” and more people come over to help baymax choose something.

so in this thirty second clip we have:

a continuation of what turning red started with an open discussion about periods

a small showcase of options for people who need menstrual products with absolutely no shame or stigma being attached to any of them (there’s no “correct” answer with the pads vs tampons thing, and the only thing someone specifically says not to get is anything with bleach or perfume, since those can cause infections)

a casual acknowledgment that it’s not just women who use these products

a dad who isn’t at all awkward or embarrassed to be picking up pads for his daughter (how many shows have we seen portray the dad as being totally disgusted by this basic part of puberty for about half the population, and play this off as a joke?)

i know disney as a corporation sucks and the world is still on fire, but damn. knowing kids will see that scene makes me happy.

i’m gonna watch baymax.
