“don’t think i’ve ever met her,” gunner chuckled lightly, giving a small shake of his head as he did. but the question of man caves had his head shaking. “no, i don’t do man caves. unless you count my office, but that’s just because i have all of my sports memorabilia in there.” he’d let her take from that what she may - he knew there were multiple ways it could be taken, after all, because plenty of people collected that sort of thing. he just wasn’t one of them - all of his was actually his. “plus, there’s not much reason to only have a single room in my house be a man cave - i live alone, the entire thing could be a man cave if i really wanted.” he clears his throat as she talks more about the book club - still not convinced to join himself, but maybe he’d give it a shot if he felt like it. “i guess that’d work. i don’t really have a ton of experience with those kinds of things.”

“ SHE’S GREAT. if you ever need any interior design help, she’s amazing at her job, ”   elle gushes. it’s hard to believe a man when he says he doesn’t have a man cave, but if gunner’s home has as many books as he’s explaining, she doubts it’s a traditional man cave.   “ well, i meant your entire apartment actually, ”   she lets out a laugh,   “ but that’s good to know. i’d love to see it one day, uh, if you don’t mind. and i don’t either, honestly. but i’ll let you know if it actually happens. i can’t plan anything until christmas is finally over. ”   the holidays were always a stressful time.

          “well, if you ever decide do actually do it, at least you know there’s one person interested.” he pulls his shoulders back into a small shrug, chuckling. “i’ve been wantin’ to get out of the house more, make some friends. and i’m not only an avid reader but also a writer so that’d be the perfect spot for me.” wyatt smiles warmly at the woman. “i was born and raised but moved out to new york at the age of eighteen. been back for about four months now. i grew up in the trailer park but upgraded to jupiter valley now—which is probably why it does feel like the suburbs to me.”

“ I’M GLAD TO HEAR THAT, ”   elle smiles, and she means that. if this conversation had gone poorly, she probably never would’ve considered the option in the first place, but now she was actually thinking about it.   “ you and me both, ”   she laughs.   “ i desperately need a social life. oh, what kind of writer are you ? ”   that immediately made her more interested, eyes sparkling.   “ no kidding. well, welcome back. how do you like jupiter valley ? ”   with the prospect of buying a house in the next year still on her mind, elle can’t help but ask everyone’s opinion on the roswell neighborhoods.

ELIJAH LIKED TO THINK HE knew elle pretty well by know and as much as he didn’t consider himself to be living with a stranger, there were still a lot of things he didn’t know about her. and that she didn’t know about him. but maybe they just needed to talk more about the important things rather than avoiding them. it was definitely a hard task for him, though. “well, plans change. mine definitely did as soon as you showed up at my door with that little blonde baby in your arms.” he smiles lightly. “but that isn’t exactly a bad thing. we can always come up with a plan together. we are already doin’ all of this together.” he shrugs. her last comment makes him scrunch up his nose slightly. “impossible? why do you say that?”

THE WAY HE SAYS THAT MAKES HER SMILE, memory bringing her back to that nerve-wrecking evening that had turned out to be the best thing she ever did.   “ don’t i know it. ”   it’s one of the reasons elle has tried not to plan too much of her life, opting to take it all day-by-day. as much as possible when raising a daughter, at least.   “ but i’d like that. it probably wouldn’t be the worst thing to have, especially as she’s getting older. ”   and iris was growing every day, so much so that elle sometimes felt like she couldn’t keep up. she lets out a laugh.   “ i’m a mom of a two year-old who lives with her ex. you can’t tell me that’s not enough for most guys to be wary. ”   as far as baggage goes, that seemed like the motherload  ( no pun intended ) .

HE DEFINITELY HASN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE DRINKS, and her being his neighbor makes it all the easier - not that it was tough, to begin with. But now, the opportunity is right there. “Cool. I can’t wait to try out your cookies. That only means I’ll definitely have to buy you a drink. It’s only fair,” he says, looking over at her to see her reaction, mainly wanting to see if she’ll become flustered and shy. “Borrow as much as you want. Take the whole jar, if you’d like.” He reaches for the jar and takes it, handing it over. “You’d never experiment with a recipe? Try out your own thing?”

HIM BRINGING UP THE DRINKS ONLY MAKES HER LAUGH, because of course he would.   “ you definitely don’t have to do that, ”   she tells him, although as soon as it’s out of her mouth, elle’s not sure why she said that. she DOES want to get a drink with him, she thinks. is that so wrong ?   “ do you have anything here to drink ?   when i’m done with my cookies, i mean, ”   elle adds quickly, so she doesn’t sound THAT presumptuous. the blonde flashes him a smile in thanks when she takes the jar.   “ i’ll bring the rest back, i promise, ”   she assures him, before hesitating.   “ i’ve tried a little, but usually it’s just adding or taking something away from a recipe. there’s a science to cooking that i just don’t follow. ”

The knock at the door was kind of unexpected, but when Skye threw open the door, a bright smile appeared on her features. It was always nice to see Elle, in any capacity, so seeing her standing there with a birthday cake was even better. “Thank you!” she gushed back, taking a step closer to look at the cake. “Did you make this yourself?” She had a feeling and had to admit to being jealous, cooking had never been her strong point. “I don’t have a cake, I don’t really bother now I guess… even if Amy wants it.” She chuckled. “Come in, I never say no to wine!”

“ I DID ! ”   she tells her, cheeks flushed.   “ it’s just a normal birthday cake, nothing too exciting. i hope you like yellow cake ? ”   it seemed to be the most basic birthday cake flavor, so elle figured she couldn’t go wrong with it. elle’s eyes brighten when skye said she didn’t have a cake, grateful that she wasn’t bringing one that’d end up going uneaten.   “ well this if for both of you, then, ”   she laughs, walking inside and bringing the cake into the kitchen to leave it. then she pulls the bottle out of her bag, passing it to her.   “ what are your plans for today ? ”

who are some of your best friends around town?

      not counting my sister, i’m definitely closest to astrid. but there’s also skye, who i absolutely love, and i met mia fairly recently, and i’d really like to get to know her more. we got along really well, so i have a good feeling about it. and it feels wrong not mentioning cyrus, so him too.

if you could make it work financially, would you ever consider moving out with iris?

     elijah and i don’t live together because i can’t afford it, we do it because we both want equal custody of our daughter. i can’t see either of us moving out, unless something were to change... relationships wise, i guess.

People you want to sleep with but haven't yet?

      um, i don’t really have a list of people i want to sleep with, that’s... something else. i’m pretty sure i haven’t even slept with anyone since iris was conceived, so beggars can’t really be choosers. — sorry, not that i’m begging for it.

Have you ever considered having another child?

      oh, definitely. generally speaking it’s something i want, but despite how well things worked out with iris, i do think i’d like it to be with someone i’m actually married to. ideally it would be nice to do it before there’s a crazy age gap between iris and another kid, but... well, that’s not happening any time soon.

“ HOW MUCH LONGER OF BEING A RESIDENT DO YOU HAVE ? ”   elle asks, with her very limited knowledge on med school.   “ but i’m sure you have !   it’s so exciting that you do that. do you think you’ll stick around roswell when it’s all over ? ”   it would be nice for her closest friend to stay in town, but she wouldn’t blame astrid if she wanted something a bit more glamorous like she’s used to.   “ you don’t need to get me anything, ”   she laughs, shaking her head.   “ but thank you. who knows when i’ll get to reading anything, at this point. i either read three books a week or nothing in a month. ”

if you could kiss anyone from roswell under the mistletoe, who would it be?

     it’s so cheesy, but i guess i wouldn’t mind kissing asher under the mistletoe. it’s just a little crush. it’s nothing, really.

“𝐘𝐄𝐒, 𝟏𝟎𝟎%, 𝐈’𝐌 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐒.” he nods his head along – a playful tone in his voice. “i’ll help you out, though, i’ll promote our bookclub everywhere, that’s a 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐄.” it was no secret that alex was 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃 to elle, ever since he met her through his sister. of course, he dropped a few cheeky and flirty comments around her here and there, a few actually earned him a little (quite painful) kick from josie from time to time. so it’s not like he’d complain about an excuse to see her more often. “do we 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 need to go to town hall? or can’t we just do something on our own? i 𝐃𝐎 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 a carpenter…” he trails off, logan in mind. 

ELLE GIVES HIM A LOOK, though she still can’t help but smile.   “ well thank you, alex. i really appreciate it. i probably won’t do anything until after the holidays are over, though. people usually have enough on their plate right now. ”   herself included, but it was fun to think about potential for the new year, starting with a club to keep herself busy. and when it came to alex, she didn’t doubt he’d spread the word for her.   “ um, i don’t know if we can just build something and stick it in a public place, ”   she laughs lightly.   “ don’t you need a permit for that ? ”   maybe if she had a front lawn she’d put one there, but alas, she only lives in an apartment building.

florencia lets out another laugh as the other describes the potential theater experience seeing fifty shades of grey when it originally came out. to this day, they’d never seen it– and they didn’t want to. it didn’t seem appealing in the slightest. but, perhaps florencia was just vanilla. “yeah, uh, i’m sure they did. but you’re right, seeing it in a large group with other people just sounds… well… yeah.” they had just turned eighteen when the movie came out, so many of the girls they were obligated to spend time with went to see it as one of their first legal R-RATED movies. they always tried to get florencia to go, but lucky they could always say they had homework to do. “that’s reassuring. i can definitely make time for it, then.” her smile lights up even more when elle mentions the stalk market. “yeah! that’s my shop, actually.” they hated to say outright that THEY OWNED IT, but they were also proud of the achievement. of course, a lot of it couldn’t be done without her brother. he really did a lot to help her stay afloat. but, she was proud of the way it’s grown. “i’ve seen you at the antique store. i, uh, i go there sometimes to get little gifts for my mother.”

“ I THINK MY MOM SAW IT IN THEATRE’S WITH HER FRIENDS, ”   she admits, nose scrunching as she unlocks that memory.   “ which pretty much solidified me not wanting to go. ”   it was safe to assume most of the movie-goers were middle aged women like her mother, looking for something spicy that was more acceptable than porn to watch. in their defense, at least jamie dornan is hot. elle’s grateful she brought up the stalk market as a change in subject, if for no other reason than to see the smile on the other’s face brighten beautifully.   “ really ? ”   it makes sense why she takes so much pride in it, then, and elle beams back.   “ that’s really cool. how long have you been there ? ”   eyebrows raise slightly at the mention of the antique store, before recognition settles in her face.   “ oh, right !   that’s definitely where i’ve seen you before. it’s not often we get customers under fifty, ”   she jokes.

"that's a LONG LIST, i'm not gonna lie. but if i'll limit it to people i haven't kissed that i would LIKE TO, i'd say luca and elle. aydin has a pretty face, i'm certain he'd like me to shut up, even if for a few seconds."

“i don’t know if i’m the kinda guy you should be taking interior design advice from, unless you’re prepared to spend a small fortune on furnishing your house.” it’d been nothing compared to the house he’d lived in before, at least - but he knew that it was more than most people spent decorating a house. “but yeah, come over, check it out. i’d like to think the place looks nice, but not many people really come over and see it.” his habitual need to maintain his privacy, leftover from his time as a celebrity, certainly hadn’t faded in his time away from the spotlight. “i’ll think about it, yeah? maybe i’ll just take a peek at what you’re reading each month before i decide whether i wanna show up or not.”

“ I ALSO HAVE SKYE TO HELP, IF YOU KNOW HER. but really i just like looking at ideas. ”   it’s not like any furniture that costs hundreds of dollars doesn’t have a cheaper counterpart somewhere, probably ikea.   “ it’s not a man-cave, is it ? ”   she teases, unable to help herself. why else would people not come over to see it ?   the offer makes her cheeks flush a little, though she tries not to think too much into it.   “ yeah, definitely. ideally there’s enough people interested that they can come in and out each month as much as they want, and there’d still be enough people each month to do a decent meeting. that’s what i’d want, at least. ”   elle’s sort of making this up as she goes along.

KNOCK, KNOCK. as soon as skye opens her front door, she’s immediately greeted with a birthday cake :   homemade, vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, name written out in red surrounded by rainbow sprinkles. a head pops out from behind it :   elle’s.   “ happy birthday ! ”   she says cheerfully, flashing her friend a wide smile.   “ i’m sure you probably have a cake of your own, but i couldn’t resist. ”   you can never have enough cake anyway, right ?   “ i have some wine in my bag too, if you’re not busy, ”   the blonde adds after a beat.

          “you’re right, we’ll be fine. and i’m sure i’ll feel differently once the baby’s here. it’s just.. hard.” it had been months of pent up emotions she couldn’t exactly share with family, who were all excited beyond belief, so at the opportunity to speak all of her worries and doubts about an unplanned pregnancy with someone young, and would understand, juniper jumps. and perhaps as her lips move, it’s a bit far of a jump. “he seems like he’s a good dad. and you two… don’t sleep together at all?” face twists with mild skepticism. “i feel like, if i were you and i saw my child’s dad kissing boo-boos and singing lullabies i’d want to jump his bones constantly.”

“ HONESTLY, ONCE THE BABY COMES, you’ll probably be too tired to think about it, ”   she smiles slightly.   “ just enjoy yourself now, before the baby comes. i’m sure i don’t need to tell you about the sleepless nights you’ll be dealing with. ”   elle’s not going to lie about the stressors of having a newborn, but there’s no doubt that juni and jaden will be alright. it’s learning curve.   “ he’s great, ”   she nods.   “ he spends a lot of time with her now, since i went back to work. it worked out really well. ”   she knows juni’s only voicing the question that most probably have when they hear about her situation, but when she says it like that, the blonde’s cheeks can’t help but flush.   “ i... we’re just not like that, ”   elle shakes her head.   “ i thought it’d be weirder at first, moving in together when we barely knew each other, but you’d be surprised how much time goes into taking care of a kid. it’s a little easier now that she’s not so young, but we haven’t... ”   she clears her throat.   “ it’s not like i haven’t thought about it, obviously, but i don’t think he’s— ”   nope, not finishing that sentence.   “ it’s probably better off, anyway. i wouldn’t want us to do something that we couldn’t take back, and then it ruins the relationship we currently have. for iris. ”
