His name is Vance Ma'afu Gaunavou (most just call him Van)

he's a 29 year old iTaukei Fijian, a Private Military Contractor tasked to provide additional security and protection for Jill and other S.T.A.R.S being targeted by Nemesis.. and also to map out the safest transportation routes out of town. He's escorting Jill at the start of the game and they get separated, with Gaunavou getting walled off to another side of the city.

Despite his profession being more corporate, it's known that Vance is a little more softhearted than most of his colleagues, often takes assignments more out of the sake of saving people more than actual profit, has the mindset of a merc but is a PMC. His team is obviously wiped, he's the last of them..

Dislikes Umbrella, very anti-Umbrella, which makes him hypocritical since he's part of a private company. He ends up working with Carlos anyway halfway thru the story because they have a shared goal: To live. I was thinking Carlos ran into Van as he was finding a vaccine for Jill, and Van begrudgingly joins him from there.

As a person, Vance is a bit withdrawn, not a talker and his actions speak way louder than words (honestly he's kind of an introvert and is shy) . But he's naturally warm, and noble. Very down-to-earth and certain in everything he does. Is known to be really caring for his fellow man in critical moments, even if he doesn't know them, and even if they may be his enemy.
