I think 50 shades of grey did so much damage to BDSM writing in fic and like not because I think fic writers were taking inspiration from it, but we did get a lot of detailed explanatory posts about all the different ways in which those guys were Doing It Wrong, which is not in and of itself a bad thing but since then everybody got so hung up on making sure everybody in their fics was nothing like 50 shades of grey and actually demonstrates that yes I do understand the principles of safe sane and consensual and the traffic light system and safewording and aftercare and checking in that now everybody fucks like a 101 handbook and I think we've only just recently started to recover from it. love me a dynamic where it's two repressed freak idiots who accidentally invent BDSM all on their own and have to come up with the strangest most deeply harmful ways of navigating that situation

God the gradient is gorgeous already

While cutting out my actual patchwork pieces, Ive also cut out these 1inch samples of each fabric which is going to be used in the Sakura Quilt. As im not 1000% set and sure of the final fabrics going into the quilt, for now i just made a little display on a cork board i had hanging, to keep me motivated and be pretty!

At a later date (when Ive received more fabrics and am actually set in the fabrics going into the project...) im gonna sew it together into a mini quilt <3

I was reading earlier today about how, in Scandinavian folklore, the nomenclature that's usually rendered as "ring" in modern English can variously refer to bracelets, armlets, or torcs as well as to finger rings. It's usually clear from context which is intended, though there are some legendary "rings" whose form is not specified in surviving accounts.

This ambiguity is, of course, not present in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings; though the work and its titular object are inspired by these sagas, the One Ring is clearly described as a finger ring. However, my brain has seized upon the finger-ring-or-bracelet ambiguity and spontaneously produced an anachronistic 1990s teen movie version of The Lord of the Rings in which the One "Ring" is a cursed slap bracelet.

These creatures are associated with fairytales and folklore because they sometimes end washed up on shores.

They can reach up to 8 meters and they can swim either vertically or horizontally.

They feed primarily on plankton but they can eat small creatures too.

Their bodies are gelatinous to withstand the great pressure of being a super cool fish, I mean, the water pressure.

They look so cool underwater, here is some footage from animal planet.

I bet they have their own folklore about us.
