-article about post-EDSA revolution Philippines literature.
Tumblr media
The EDSA Revolution of 1986 marked a significant turning point in Philippine history. The people's collective action led to the overthrow of the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and ushered in a new era of democracy in the country. This political upheaval also had a profound impact on the Philippines literature, leading to a wave of creative output that reflected the changing times.
One of the most notable contributions of the post-EDSA Revolution era was the emergence of a new generation of Filipino writers who were more socially and politically engaged. They used literature as a tool for criticism and social commentary, reflecting the realities of the time. They also explored themes of identity, nationalism, and the struggles of the marginalized sectors of society.
Another significant development in the post-EDSA Revolution literature was the proliferation of literary anthologies and journals. These publications provided a platform for both established and emerging writers to showcase their works. The publication of these anthologies also led to the recognition of new voices in Philippine literature, some of whom would later become major figures in the literary scene.
The post-EDSA Revolution era also saw the resurgence of literary works written in the native languages. While Philippine literature has a long tradition of writing in native tongues, the Marcos dictatorship had enforced the use of English in all forms of communication.
In conclusion, the post-EDSA Revolution era was a fertile period for Philippine literature. It gave rise to a new generation of writers who were more socially and politically engaged, and it led to the recognition of new voices in the literary scene. The literature of this period reflected the changing times and the hopes and aspirations of the people for a better future. The legacy of the post-EDSA Revolution literature continues to inspire and influence Filipino writers to this day.

-short article about the period of new society-
Tumblr media
The period of the New Society in the Philippines, which began in 1972 with the declaration of martial law by President Ferdinand Marcos, had a profound impact on the country's literature. Writers during this time were faced with the challenge of expressing themselves in a climate of political repression and censorship. As a result, many authors turned to allegory and symbolism to convey their message. The works produced during this period reflected the tensions and anxieties of the times, and explored themes of social injustice, political oppression, and the struggle for freedom and democracy. Despite the difficulties, the period of the New Society also saw a flourishing of literary activity, with the emergence of new voices and the publication of significant works in various genres, including poetry, fiction, and drama.

-POEM-
during period of activism
Tumblr media
Philippine literature during activism
A time of fervent spirit and heart,
Where writers and poets, with courage
Used their words as a weapon, their art
To light the passion and ignite the flame
Of a people thirst for justice to claim.
The pages were filled with tales of the abuse
With stories of the silenced and the unseen,
With poetry that never shied from protest,
A movement that spoke what it truly means
To be free, to be bold, to speak up and rise,
To have a voice that no one can call down.
From the campuses to the streets, they gathered,
Their voices ringing clear and loud
Challenging the big house, a noise that mattered
A literature that never stopped confuse,
The minds of the oppressors, the rulers of men
A literature that made us whole again.
The Philippines literature during this time
Was a testament to the human spirit's might
A celebration of courage and hope
A reminder that in darkness, there's still light
For those who dare to speak truth to power
Their words a gift that will endure forever.
And now, as we look back on those times,
We see the legacy they left behind,
The words, the passion, the fighting rhymes,
The courage and strength that they combined
To give us a literature that speaks of our soul,
A literature that will forever make us whole.
