you CANNOT read too much old timey fiction because I was playing Raft with the lads this morning and without a THOUGHT said we could sail over to another island "if the wind would consent to blow" & let me tell you. This did not pass by unremarked.

friend of mine was sleeping whilst another friend and i were talking about nonsense. at some point we were talking about how trains honked anyway in the no horn zone that we had both lived in at one point. either without waking up, or waking up so briefly as to not disturb her sleep, our sleeping friend turned over to face us and solemnly intoned "Trains are required by federal law to sound the horn three times at a grade crossing". then she was gone again. we shook her gently- no response, out cold. she didn't remember it in the morning.

everything is very bad in this modern age but i truly think Merlin Bird ID App is a wonder so astonishing that it almost makes everything else worth it. like you can just sit somewhere and listen to birds and 4 minutes later you will know stuff you didn't know before. not only that but you might even retain that knowledge. this morning i sat with my coffee and let Merlin record my surroundings for 4 minutes and now i know 1) what a northern parula sounds like 2) that i have been listening to northern parulas for years without being aware that they even existed. this cheerful little gold-and-gray guy has been trilling at me my whole life and i've never known his name and now i do! you can sit there and hear something and think "that sounds familiar, i'd like to know what that is" and then look down and see the little bird ID light up LIVE. ohhh of course, a red-eyed vireo, how could i have forgotten. AI good actually.

i haven't really been posting my xiv fics on tumblr (not even on my sideblog because i have it set to be hidden in search because i don't really want my random OC ramblings showing up in tags?) but i might have to make an except for the carpenter one and post it on main because no one is EVER going to just be searching for that pairing on ao3 but i personally think more people. should read it.

Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".

You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.

that post about how waxwings are always photographed eating photogenic red berries ruined me. it’s all i can think about whenever i see another Waxwing Eating Berries photo. why do they only eat those berries why are they always conveniently in the berry tree in the first place do they never go anywhere else. do they have a sponsorship deal. what is Big Berry hiding from us
