very crazy to me that you’ll have folks in various fandoms that will believe their own perception of canon to be what actually happened. your perception is a headcanon! your headcanon is not canon! other people are allowed to have their own headcanons and it isn’t stupid or illogical because it doesn’t align with yours, it just means that they view things differently and that’s okay lmao.

District 4 is one of the wealthiest districts of Panem. Its major industry is fishing, and the children are trained for jobs in this industry from a young age. The bread from this district is a salty, fish-shaped loaf, tinted green by seaweed. District 4 is also a Career District, where children illegally train for and subsequently volunteer for the Games. Training in the district’s fishing industry is also useful for tributes, as they have experience in swimming, using nets and tridents, making fishhooks from scratch, and identifying edible sea life. District 4 is located along the Pacific Coast, stretching through modern-day California and Oregon, bordered by District 7 to the North and Districts 1 and 5 to the East. i want to come back to this actually because i've always wondered just how exactly the dam in annie's arena broke. a lot of fanfic likes to point at finnick being behind the dam break, most likely by blackmailing the head gamemaker. others think an earthquake broke the dam, likely pointing at an arena in the pnw. some, however, think it may have been beetee's meddling: which i like to lean towards.

for starters:

as learned in sotr, there's no reason to believe anything about an arena unless we're learning something from the victor of that arena. anything else can be propaganda. for example: i thought the volcano in haymitch's arena was one that erupted entirely on its own. in sotr, we learned it was gamemaker made. what's not to say that the dam in annie's arena isn't gamemaker made, too? and they could've had sea mutts in it? while the likely hood of that is low, it's not nonexistent: with so little about it known in canon, anything can be on the table.

now: if an earthquake broke the dam in arena's arena, then that would most likely place her arena on the west coast of the united states, likely within the pnw region. an earthquake strong enough to break a dam would have to be 7.0 or above: and that can vary as well, because the lower magnitude the earthquake is, the closer it would have to be to the dam.

an earthquake strong enough to break a dam would also be one strong enough to be near cataclysmic to that region and to those surrounding it: and once again, with her arena being in an area prone to earthquakes and with natural dams rather than gamemaker made ones, that would yield horrific results to district four, which would be nearby and on the same coast. aftershocks, tsunamis, etc .. that would absolutely bring forth death to four and particularly to those working within the water or living near it. while i'm sure the capitol is skilled at withholding information, this is something that i'm sure would have been either mentioned by a victor, or well known to panem.

regarding dam infrastructure: most dams within the pnw built prior to 1990 will not be able to withstand an earthquake above a 9.0, which is why i lean towards an earthquake breaking the dam in her arena being that strong.

in terms of finnick blackmailing a gamemaker to break a dam that isn't gamemaker made: i'm egyptian, and my family lives in a city on the coast. the ocean is perhaps our greatest love: and we know to fear it, because it's very unpredictable. only six inches of water can knock you down. in breaking a dam, being a strong swimmer isn't enough to guarantee you survival: there's the matter of i'm assuming debris, anything that's caught within the water (animals, trees, logs, also debris), and then currents: you cannot guarantee someone's survival with currents. it's entirely unpredictable: anyone wary of water and who knows to respect it would not subject someone to that, because that is extremely dangerous and unreliable.

i think the most likely option to me would be beetee's meddling: i saw on one post that his son would have been nineteen by annie's games. that could point as to why we haven't heard anything about his son. but also, one can argue that he would have mentioned in the books if his second son was also killed by the capitol.

in conclusion: these are my thoughts

hey oomfs <3 haven't been on tumblr in years, but i've somehow found my way back. i'm still interested in the same things: acotar, tog, the inheritance cycle, the hunger games. i've branched out into rereading romcoms too and really enjoy books written by ali hazelwood. i do critique what i read and will post said critiques, which is a heads up !

The fact that it's mentioned that Rowan has lightning powers but it's never expanded upon drives me bonkers because it's like....what do you mean he has lightning powers??? What can he do with it???? Why does he never use it??? I need answers

One of the things I love about Rowaelin and their dynamic (aside from really relating to her as a woman who unapologetically loves herself and is good at most things) is that he’s not like, possessive? A lot of male fantasy romance heros are possessive and growling and snarling at others, but like the only time in the book he gets vaguely possessive is right after they bone the very first time, and it’s like a “hmm, weird feeling, gotta be careful with that” and isn’t mentioned again. Fenrys shows up and to Aelin he’s like “have fun flirting with our boyfriend babe”. Like even with Arobyn he just puts on the almond skin oil (it’s the grooming and psychosis that bothers him, not the possessive element of it). Like he’s so confident in himself and his relationship with Aelin that he doesn’t feel the need to do that, which is incredibly sexy, and much more reflective of the dynamic that I want in real life.
