Note
Hii hii, I really like your two posts of hcs for Cove ^^
Since you're taking requests, would you be interested in writing about his change in style (I just kinda like fashion headcanons)
I would love too!!! So this is going to be half analysis and half headcannons. These are just my thoughts and opinions, take them with a grain of salt! This is a long one.
I won’t be going into how the players choices impact his wardrobe in this, but if that’s something that interests you I’d look at this. (just details your choices in step 1, but helps give a good idea as to how the system works)
Step 1:
Cove is seen most often wearing a white tank, brown shorts, and his red glasses. The only exception to this (I believe) is the moment ghost, where Cove is seen in a two tone brown sweater.
At this age Coves style isn’t affected by the players choices, as it’s the first step.
Coves style doesn’t stick out in any way. He’s almost entirely in neutral tones, with the exception of his cast. This is especially ironic considering most of what Coves focused on at this age is what’s out of his control. His parents divorce, him getting injured, what he can’t do because of his injury, etc.
I imagine that this is how Coves style is as a young kid. He doesn’t really want to be noticed. He wears what’s practical and comfortable. So in SoCal, and that is a tank and shorts. Cove keeps himself in colors that are quite plain in comparison to his bright hair and eyes.
I imagine his day to day wear is just variations of what we get to see him wearing in game. Maybe the color or cut is slightly different, but overall it’s relatively similar.
Cove staples at this age:
- Simple/plain tank tops (white, brown, cream)
- Simple shorts w/ pockets to stuff seashells into
- Sweaters for when it’s cold
- Good running shoes (Cove does have a bit of a habit of running off at this age)
- Longer pants (also with good pockets) for the less sunny days
- Simple t-shirts and long sleeves
There’s not a lot I can add, I don’t see his style being very elaborate at this age.
Step 2:
This is the first step where the player impacts his look.
He has two options for tops:
1. A dark blue t-shirt with a like quarter button, that he leaves unbuttoned.
2. A red tank (?) with what looks like white lizards or some kind of reptile in a circle around the left side (right for the player).
He has 2 (+2 color variations of each) options for bottoms:
1. A pair of shorts similar in style to the ones he wore as a kid, in blue and brown
2. A striped pair of (what looks like) swim trunks. One color combo is white, blue, green, and purple. The other is white, green, pink, and blue.
Cove also has a few options for jewelry in this step: a beaded necklace, a pink bracelet, a wide brown leather (?) bracelet, and a layered brown beaded shark tooth (looks like) bracelet.
Cove has the option in this step to have either no glasses, rectangular blue ones, or semi-round brown glasses.
For pajamas he has the option of either a plain teal top or a purple top with a compass design.
And finally he can either have a black and grey jacket or a pink and white one.
Something that is very obvious in this step is Cove is much more open to wearing colors.
This is made even more obvious with the people he cares about. When he’s surrounded by the people he cares about (ex. The road trip), the colors he’s wearing get brighter (the pink jacket). They also get brighter when it’s just him and mc (when he’s seen in the pajamas).
It’s clear he feels more comfortable in his own skin, he’s settled into sunset bird at this point.
I think Cove would be a lot more open to exploring and experimenting with his own style at this age. He doesn’t feel as tied to the neutrals anymore, and blue becomes one of his staples. He doesn’t care what other people think about how he dresses, and is more than happy to express himself how he wants.
Cove goes through like the opposite of an emo phase, he just gets really colorful all of a sudden.
Cove staples at this age:
- More shorts w/ pockets to stuff seashells into (he has priorities still)
- T-shirts and tank tops (blues, reds, browns, whites)
- Swim trunks, for those spur of the moment swims (very colorful, simple patterns though)
- Color!!! Like I said, reverse emo phase, his wardrobe finally has color
- I imagine he is never wearing matching socks. They’re always mismatched.
- Likes to wear cool tones and reds/pinks, doesn’t wear a lot of (if any) yellows and oranges
Step 3:
Step 3 Cove has arguably the most options for his look. It’s either this step or step 4.
Shirt options:
1. A black v-nack t-shirt with an anchor design
2. A denim (?) button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows
3. A green striped tank top
Pant options:
1. Jeans, just jeans
2. Cargo pants (?), two colors dark green and black
3. Like sweats or joggers, also two colors yellow and white
Cove has the most (I think) options for jewelry at this stage. He has:
1. An anchor necklace
2. Stacked blue bracelets
3. Stacked brown bracelets
4. Stacked colored bracelets (green, yellow, red)
5. Stacked silver bracelets
6. A dark blue watch
7. Black lobe piercing
8. Black helix piercing
For special outfits (either moment exclusive or more rare):
1. Feather design pajamas top in blue&green or blue, green, and purple
2. Plaid pajama pants in grey and white or blue and white
3. Bubble swim trunks, in either blue or pink
4. A formal outfit, with either a like dark plum (almost black) top or a black top with a geometric pattern
Cove has three options for glasses:
1. Dark red rectangles
2. Dark blue thin rectangles
3. Wide semi-round brown
Coves style at this age feels like a more mature version of step 2. The largest difference between this step and the ones previously is Cove has pretty much entirely ditched the shorts in favor of pants.
This is also (I believe) the first time where we can see Cove wearing jeans, something much more stiff than what he’s worn previously.
Cove staples at this age:
- Jeans
- Comfortable pants, such as the joggers/sweats
- A comfortable top for the California heat, such as a t-shirt or tank top
- LOTS of jewelry
- Not something we can see in game but I am a firm believer that by this age Coves wardrobe is 50% Hawaiian shirts (I mean come on, it’s Cove)
- Actually has some formal wear, though only wears it when he feels he has to
I hope this is what you were looking for !! This was honestly a lot of fun to do. Keep the asks coming!

Cove Holden Homework Headcannons
Step 1: After Summer
- Would actually rather be doing anything else
- He understands why teachers give out homework and why he has to do it, he’s just not at a point where it’s anything he really puts priority on
- If anything little Cove probably avoids homework when possible
- If MC is worried about him not doing well and offers to help, he may or may not take it, depending on their closeness
You knew Cove wasn’t really the homework type. Since he got to Sunset Bird all he’s really wanted to do is just, well, spend time with you.
At least, that’s what it looks like. To you anyway.
The two of you are sitting in your living room after school, working. Liz is complaining, as usual.
“What did you get for number 3?” Cove asks, snapping you out of your temporary daze.
“Um… I got 7” You say, looking over your paper just to make sure you said the right thing, and not another question by mistake.
“Mm” He hums softly. He continues on with his work, so you assume he got the same thing.
You’ve gotten used to his short, simple responses. While they may seem cold to other people, you understand that it’s just how Cove is.
He isn’t cold, just simple. Straightforward.
Step 2: Another Year
Studious:
- Good at studying, best person to help when exams are coming up
- Homework is less of a chore then it was when he was younger
- It’s more of a time for him to just focus on something and be alone
- He takes his study’s seriously, and it pays off. All those perfect homework assignments could probably let him miss 3 weeks of school and still come out with good grades
- NERD (I had to)
- Even if school isn’t hard for you, being able to bounce answers off each other is great
- And if it is, Cove is always there to help you out.
- You pass every class you’re in together with flying colors, that’s for certain.
You and Cove luckily had most of your classes together this year, and even more lucky you have one of the brightest students in class to help you with your homework.
You were both sitting at your dining room table, completing your homework for the day.
There’s papers scattered all around you. The actual assignment, the reference packet on the material, scrap paper for notes/math problems, and a few encouraging sticky notes you’ve passed to one another.
It’s chaos, it’s messy. But you’re getting it done. Together.
Sporty:
- Maintains the lack of care for homework that his younger self had
- He’s much more likely to do it now though
- He understands the implications and consequences of not getting his work done, so he gets through it as quickly as he can (while still trying to do it correctly) so he can do other things
- His attitude is neutral all around
- His grades are still good, just not as good as his studious counterpart
You’re pretty sure your history teacher is evil incarnate.
She assigns like 4 chapters and an essay every night.
Luckily for you, Cove is in her class too. So the two of you do the work together, to make it easier.
You rarely ever get much done in these study sessions. It’s mostly complaining about all the work and playful conversation between the two of you.
You both know you’ll have to get it done at some point. Yet you’d both rather spend your time together.
Step 3: Before Graduation
- Conflicted on your schooling years being over, he feels a lot of pressure to decide what he’s going to do
- Class work is easy for him still, but with how chaotic everyone’s lives have gotten it’s taken a backseat on his priorities again
- His only goal right now is to spend as much time with you as possible, just in case you get separated after graduation
You can’t wait to be done with high school. You’ve made good friends and you’ll be sad to not see them as much, but it’s a fact of life.
You and Cove still study together, even when your work is minimal.
You’re going to miss this. Soon your focus will be on jobs and rent. It’s a lot to worry about.
So you’ll savor this time while you can because soon enough it’ll be gone.
Senior year felt miles away when you first met Cove, and yet here you are. About to graduate.
Time flies.
A/N: I just want to note that I will not have a posting schedule. I’ve been cooking this up in my drafts for like 2 weeks now. Please send me asks with ideas on what you want to see!!! I’d be more than happy to take suggestions

Cove Holden has been around you so long that your movements have synced up.
You stretch at the same time, have the same facial expressions, and even the same laugh.
It’s sweet.
But boy do your families take advantage of that. Liz quipping about you two being the same person, Cliff offhandedly mentioning how similar you act.
Now even your friends are in on it, too.
You don’t mind too much though, there isn’t a person in the world you’d rather be similar to.

🐠Cove Holden Aquarium/Fish Tank Headcannons🐠
STEP 1
- I think in step one all Cove has for an aquarium is just a 10-15 gal freshwater aquarium
- Aka the standard for most 8 year olds
- Cliff does 99% of the work at this age, it’s one of his ways of showing Cove he cares
- Cove doesn’t really care about the fish. Not in a bad way!! I just think Cove wouldn’t be as into it as his older counterparts are.
- Not to say he doesn’t want the fish, he just doesn’t think of them as top of his priority list
- Has the world’s most gentle and calm male betta EVER. It’s actually crazy how chill he is.
- His tank is a mix of real plants and colorful decor, but it’s overall not bad.
- This fish lives for like 4 years
Walking into Coves room for the first time was a really big moment for you. It was made even more important by finally being able to meet the smallest member of the Holden household.
As Cove opens the door to his bedroom, you’re immediately met with the crunch of the sand on the floor and the trickling of the water from the hang-back filter of his aquarium.
Sitting across from his bed sits a 15 gallon cube aquarium, housing the prettiest blue betta fish you’d ever seen. Well, you hadn’t seen many, and none in person, but you could just tell it was the prettiest.
“What’s his name?” You look over at Cove, but he just shrugs “Does he not have a name?”
“Not really” He replies, moving closer to look at the tank. “Dad’s been calling him Reef, so I guess if you want to call him something, that would work.”
STEP 2
- After the passing of his Betta, Cove goes to Cliff and asks him for a saltwater tank.
- Cliff is, naturally, apprehensive at first. A 13 y/o with a saltwater tank? Risky
- Cove is able to prove to him he’s done his research and they slowly acquire what they need for Coves new tank
- They decide to upgrade the tank to a 30 gallon, keeping the 15 gal as a temporary tank or hospital tank if they need it
- They get 2 clownfish and a medium anemone
- Cove absolutely adores them, and such the fish love begins in its truest form here.
- If provoked he is fully willing and able to go on an hour long rant about how they should be cared for and how they behave in their natural environment, it’s sweet.
- Does eventually get more fish in the tank, perfecting his setup during school that year
“I can’t believe someone kept an adult yellow tang in a 40 gallon aquarium. That’s wildly irresponsible and just bad for the fishes overall health.”
Your lips curve into a small smile as you listen to Cove rant about fish ethics. You’d learned a lot, but the only thing you could focus on was him.
He was pacing back and forth in front of his bed while you sat on it. You look over to see Coves clownfish tank, the two swimming idly around the anemone.
It’d made all the sense in the world that the ocean boy you grew up with started taking care of saltwater fish. His love for the ocean penetrated all aspects of his life, from his hobby’s to his pets.
STEP 3
- Cove now has 3 different saltwater tanks in his room: a 75 gallon and two twin 55 gallon tanks
- The 75 gallon tank is nothing short of a show stopper, and it’s been made into a focal point of Coves room.
- It’s filled with coral, anemone, and saltwater fish. Coves ensured it’s not too overcrowded though.
- Its got 6 blue-green chromis, 1 royal gamma, and 5 cardinal fish
- The twin 55 gallons are nothing to turn your nose up at either
- One contains a pair of ocellaris clownfish and a large anemone, he couldn’t resist after his last pair passed.
- The other contains only coral and a single adult dwarf lionfish
- Anyone who goes over to Coves room is pretty much guaranteed to make at least one underwater or aquarium related joke
Walking into Coves room was second nature to you, it was your home in the Holden household. Feet crunching over loose sand, you pass the threshold.
Coves three large tanks illuminate the room in a soft, cool light. Each unique, joined only in the fact that they were Coves and they were saltwater.
He himself is standing over by his clownfish tank, his personal favorite, features gently lit up by the tanks light. His inspection is quick and methodical, something he’s clearly done hundreds of times before.
“It’s so natural to see you like this” You smile at him “Hovered over a fish tank, checking to make sure all is well. It’s like you were meant to be there.”
All he can manage is a sweet smile, and that’s all you need.
A/N: AAAAAAAAAA I love this so much it’s not even funny. I’m an avid fish keeper myself, though I’ve only got space for one tank at the moment. I learned so much about saltwater tanks while writing this, it’s not even funny. I feel like if MC was a freshwater fish keeper debates would definitely ensue over which is the superior type (it’s blackwater/botanical tanks, it will always be).
