Yet another ship had reached her peak and fell in a pit of ashes.

Under the cover of intense rain, the lone figure slowly approached the naval base by her own. She wanted to see a particular individual, to seek for her help. When was the last time she had been in a proper base like this ? Or got to talk to anyone but Ember ?
After observing the residential part of the base for quite a while, she had spotted the individual she wanted to visit behind a window. Thankfully there was a balcony she could climb up to. She had to be careful, despite her intentions being otherwise, the locals may take her intentions badly. Three firm knocks on the balcony door were emitted, hopefully enough to attract the residing individual’s attention.

“ Fufu, but your arrival is a pleasant surprise, so Harukaze is not bothered. Please, have a seat. ” She still had some snacks left, right? Harukaze hurried to search through her shelf and returned to serve some rice crackers and cookies - the latter looking somewhat out of place in this Japanese room. “ Gangut-sama? My, the battleships will be overjoyed to have her return. I am also thrilled to meet a new ship. ” She curiously looked at the box. “ Oh, is Harukaze allowed to open it? ”
“Of course, it’s yours after all.” Tashkent said, once again having second thoughts about not letting the other destroyer know about her visit beforehand. Then again, that would have ruined the surprise as well.
“I haven’t seen Gangut this excited for quite a long while, then again, so was I! It’s a great change from the chilly weather of Vladivostok for starters, ehehe...”

Her confusion cleared as she recognized the familiar face behind the ominous box. What an unexpected visitor, indeed, but a welcomed one. “ Tashkent-sama. What a pleasant surprise! ” Harukaze’s eyes shone in excitement, she clapped her hands, joyful to finally meet an old friend once again. And for a moment she even forgot to properly greet her. “ Oh, forgive my manners. ” Harukaze wouldn’t be Harukaze if she didn’t act all ladylike and formal and this time as well she bowed her head politely to welcome her companion. “ Please, come in, you weren’t interrupting anything. Harukaze was only rest–… ” She paused, realizing what exactly this huge box was meant to be. “ A- A gift? But Tashkent-sama, that’s a bit… unexpected. I don’t have anything to return to you…” It’d be impolite to not offer anything in return, right? Perhaps she should hurry and make some snacks and tea, at least.
“It’s fine, please don’t worry about it ! My apologies for not giving a heads up but... everything happened so fast.”
Tashkent dragged the box inside as she moved in. It wasn’t all that heavy to her but the size is what made it cumbersome. It contained a traditional Russian samovar, something she thought Harukaze would find both interesting and useful since her fondness to tea. “Gangut is here too, we’re reassigned to the base here with another lady. By the looks of it, we’re going to be here longer than last time.”

“ Oh my? ”.She looked up from the book she had been paging through, surprised, after all she hadn’t expected any visitors day. She was resting after a longer expedition and her sisters were out on another mission. Most girls were busy as well, so she wondered who would come to be her guest at this very hour.
She slowly opened the door, blinking, only for the view in front of her being even more confusing. Unfortunately, due to her small build, Harukaze was not able to see who was hiding behind the box. A confused tilt of her head. “ My, I do not remember ordering anything. Perhaps this is for one of my sisters? Do you require some help carrying? ” Her delicate arms were already reaching out to take the box, it looked heavy, but that was nothing for a ship girl.
“It’s just... hard to see around this thing...”
It took some time and quite the effort to bring the box in due to it’s size more than anything, but eventually Tashkent could take a peak at the other figure. “It’s been a long time, hasn’t it ?” She said, tilting her head just the same way Harukaze did.
“I thought it would be inappropriate of me to come all the way here without a present that you might like. I-I’m not interrupting anything, am I ?”

Thankfully the general layout of the vicinity wasn’t all that different from what it used to be, helping the destroyer to navigate her way to that address she knew very well. She was holding a box in above her chest, having barely enough clearance to see what’s in front of her. It was wrapped in paper, a hasty job, but she didn’t know any better.
knock knock knock
Up until that moment, anxiety and excitement were separate from one another. But as she hopefully waited for her old friend to open the door, they were mixing together, amplifying one another.

Two figures stood next to each other on the concrete pier, ready to take their first steps on a place they used to be hanging around in the past. A mixture of emotions were present on both of their faces, however excitement and a bit of anxiety were the prominent ones.
“Never thought we’d get the chance to come back here, not to mention after what we’ve went through in the Arctic. Don’t you think so, Tashkent ?” Gangut said as she looked down on the shorter figure, gently squeezing the destroyer’s shoulder in a reassuring way.
“I don’t know... what if they don’t remember us ? It’s been quite a while...” She answers while looking around her surroundings. A lot of things seemed to have changed, making Tashkent feel more alienated than familiar.
“Where’s that taller lady ? Kirov, was it ?” Tashkent asked Gangut with her head tilted lightly to her side. “I thought she was coming too...”
“She’s probably here somewhere, maybe making arrangements for our sleeping quarters. Shall we try to find her first, or would you prefer to find some of your old friends ?”
“Mmm... I suppose we better settle in first...”
