Today I set a timer to find out how long the wash cycle on the washing machine took compared to what it told me it would take. The washing machine said 55 minutes, but my timer said it actually took 60 minutes. I hope I don't start a spreadsheet to start collecting this dull data.

I used ChatGPT to help me summarize my feedback notes on a candidate interview. I felt like I was cheating a bit, but also really smart for saving myself a bunch of time.
Also see: using ChatGPT for writing self-evaluations and manager responses to direct report self-evaluations. Basically AI is just replying to AI at this point while we keep doing our jobs.

Life wisdom: when you don't feel like exercising, the hardest part is just getting started. Tell yourself that you only have to do it for 5 minutes, and if after 5 minutes you hate it, you are allowed to quit. I've found that once I'm 5 minutes into any kind of exercise, I feel better and I'm committed to finishing.

In my early 20s, I worked for FedEx in the call center for a year or so. One particularly slow Saturday, I answered a call from Paul Waldman, the founder of the Living American Masters Photography Project or LAMPP. He captivated me with stories from hanging out with celebrities -- mostly those a bit before my time, and some I only knew by name. I can't remember the stories or the people he mentioned anymore, as that call was 25+ years ago, when Paul was in his early 60s (?), and the stories were from decades prior. I'll never forget that we had such a fascinating conversation though, and that he was kind. It made my tedious job interesting for a day, and I appreciated that more than he'll ever know.
Today, we're connected on LinkedIn, although I doubt he remembers who I am or why we connected. ... You never know when a conversation is going to impact someone, for better or for worse, and certainly not for a lifetime.

When an activity has not taken place yet, we call it pre-event. If you drink something before your workout, it is a pre-workout. If you do something in anticipation of a future event, you can pre-pare or pre-vent. ... So why do we call something that has already been owned that is being resold "pre-owned" instead of post-?
I think the term is supposed to be previously owned, so wouldn't it make more sense to use an apostrophe to indicate the word was truncated instead of a dash? Pre'owned?🤔

I've finally gotten to the point where I'm happy to hand off certain work tasks that I used to want full control over. It gives my direct report(s) or teammates autonomy and authority to be just as passionate about it as I once was. I trust them to do it well, and I also accept that we all learn from mistakes.

It has been almost 9 months since we had to say goodbye to Bronson 🐾, and I still miss him so much. I looked at photos and watched videos -- and had a good cry this morning.

I ordered 3 food items, one of which was nachos. Why do you think I need 19 sauce packets?

I was feeling a little down and disconnected. It was a hard week at work with some hard people-things to deal with. I wondered what might make me feel better. I opened the fridge and pulled out one of the ginger shots I bought from Trader Joe's. I wasn't really sure what ginger did, but for some reason my body was telling me that was what I needed. I downed the shot then did a little internet search on what it's good for.
"Boost brain function: There are a lot of anti-inflammatory properties of ginger that can help your brain. For example, ginger increases serotonin and dopamine levels. This can reduce inflammation, which may cause depression. Ginger could also provide benefits for anxiety, depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and post-traumatic stress disorder." [Source]
Your body really knows what it needs, and sometimes if you just listen, you can feel better.

Yesterday the batteries died in the carbon monoxide detector. It was in the afternoon (not 2 am) and in a place that I could reach easily (no ladder like smoke detectors require). I feel like I should play the lottery because I was so lucky.

Playing music in the afternoons while I'm working helps the dogs take extra long naps -- which helps me concentrate and get more work done. 🐾💤🎵🎶

I love when people post pictures of celebrities without their names as if I'm supposed to recognize them, or they list celebrity names with no context about why they're famous as if I'm supposed to know who they are. Some of us live under a rock. And by some of us, I mean me.

It is that time of year when temperatures start to heat up and I transition my work from home style from athleisure to straight up gym clothes because it's hot and I'm going to sweat. 🥵

I just dropped off my husband at the airport and on our way in an airplane's shadow flew right over us, and on my way home another airplane's shadow went right over us. That has to be some sort of good luck sign, right?
