you guys ever think abt how vulcans and humans are inevitably drawn to each other?

Like, they always try to resist because "to be human is too feel and to be vulcan is to not" (or something like that, bear with me here) so they think they could never work out BUT IT ALWAYS DOES

The thing is just that: humans and vulcans are perfectly suited for each other. They balance each other out.

IRL I find that in any couple there's bound to be the logical and the emotional one. I know the writers in TOS were trying to say "yes you need balance between emotions and feelings to live better" but they accidentally made the best pairing EVER.

AND ANOTHER THING!!!

I think the essentialy human/vulcan characteristics are just VERY attractive to the other species. Think abt it. What do both species value?

Humans value sincerity, honesty, loyalty, hardwork

Vulcans value intelligence, resourcefulness, passion and loyalty too. Sure, they deny some of these things, but it's there!!!

What better pair could there ever be?

Also, what do humans find the most attractive since Jane Austen? Yearning. AND NO ONE YEARNS MORE THAN VULCANS.

Other Star Trek conlangs

Did you know just how many Star Trek fans have decided to sit down and make a conlang for their species of choice? The answer is, quite a few!

Everybody knows about Klingon, the only canon conlang, and if you read my tumblr you also know about Vuhlkansu.

So far, my researches have additionally turned up:

Romulan: Diane Duane made up Rihan and others have added to it over the years. I think it's amazing. It's not at all related to Vulcan; the idea is that the Romulans wanted a fresh start when they left T'Khasi.

Cardassian: Kardasi looks great, though the link I found to it is seven years old and I have no idea if they're still working on it.

Bajoran: A great effort seems to have been made to use all canon vocabulary and keep it all consistent. Yet another wayback machine link.

Andorian: Several different attempts exist. My son is even making one, though he's not ready to share it. Here's a grammar and a vocabulary which may or may not go together at all.

And there are surely more!

The main thing I am seeing here is that it is difficult to share your work on a conlang, and that people move on from conlangs and the web pages expire. Google docs works surprisingly well, probably because conlangs rarely get much traffic. But people do delete old files and accounts without thinking about it, and then knowledge is lost. If you've ever found an old notebook full of poetry in a language you made up yourself, but you can't find the other notebook that had the dictionary in it, you know the pain.

I thought the ConWorkshop would be a neat solution to this, because you can publish your language there if you have an account. However, you can't make it publicly available, because to even see the languages other people have posted, you need an account and to have already created a language!

So if anybody knows of a good site where these conlangs (and my conlang, lol) could be shared and preserved past the ordinary lifespan of a privately-owned website, please shout out. Imagine a neat little Star Trek conlang website where we could gather all the languages we make, and take care of them jointly so they don't fade out of existence.

SERVICE DOG PSA

So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didn’t learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)

I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up

If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help

Don’t get scared, don’t get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. We’re going to update his training so if the first person doesn’t cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If what’s-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him
