Opening Adopt

Saltburst - Wayfinder Scout

62 Moons - AFAB - gender and sexuality (previous mate was a tom!) up to adopter!

Personality

Saltburst was known to be headstrong and full of energy, easily distracted and struggled to focus. Why they’re like this, how this affects their life, and if anything has changed since their family was split is up to the adopter!

Backstory

Salt was born to two senior Hunters at Little Sprout Well, and from the moment they could walk they were on the move. They followed the path of a Scout and was named Saltburst for their never-ending energy. Their parents both retired to the elder’s den when they were either in training or a young Scout, and passed away during her adulthood. Saltburst became mates with Scalestrike, a Hunter, sometime before 35 moons before the start of RP. They had a single litter of three: Shell, Tooth, and Hatch. Shell took strongly to Scalestrike, while Saltburst became particularly close to Tooth, though they still loved their other two children dearly. Saltburst would become Toothpaw’s mentor when they were at the age to train, and Scalestrike would mentor Shellpaw. Hatchpaw would go on to become apprenticed to Honeyoath, an odd older Tender who was obsessed with bees. Scalestrike and Toothmaw would both pass away on the same day as Nightstar to the wolf attack, and Saltburst would lose both their mate and their favorite child. They would lose one more child, Hatchcomb, after he decided to stay behind when Coyotestar took the Wayfinders to find a new home. You are free to and we encourage adding extra story beats to Salt’s backstory! Rivalries,their relationship with Scale, and other life events so long as their pre-established story is not strayed from too much.

Saltburst is connected to player character Shellspark! Some things to keep in mind:

How does Saltburst feel about the call Coyotestar made to abandon the wells in search of a new place to live? About the Waterplant in general?

No parent wants to admit it, but sometimes they have a favorite child. Saltburst’s favorite was Toothmaw. How do they feel about this? Are they even aware of their favoritism? How does this affect their past relationship with Hatch, and their current relationship with Shell?

Saltburst lost their mate and son on the same day, and Hatchcomb abandoned the colony shortly after. How do they feel about that?

Opening Adopt

Shrapnel - Metal Scrappers member

Personality

Shrapnel is a worn down and rather submissive cat. She’s lived a long and harsh life, one filled with violence and fear — as a result she became rather jumpy and nervous of new cats. Despite it all she tries her best, often smiling despite her own demons threatening to swallow her whole.

Backstory

Many cats live a luxurious life whether they realize it or not, unfortunately Shrapnel knew that would never be her life. Born into a sickly family, siblings fighting for meals she felt trapped. Life seemed to constantly remind her how cruel it truly was when she’d be taken away by mysterious twolegged creatures, their meaty hands handling her as if she were an object rather than a living breathing being. Thankfully they were kind, feeding her and despite her anger towards being pricked by weird metallic needles, she felt a lot healthier, but she wanted her family. She had ran out one day when her cage had been left open accidentally, the poor girl had been adventuring for who knows how long. She eventually found herself in a rogue group, she liked it for the short amount of time she stayed there. She even brought a litter of four into the world, her rowdy bunch of babies. Skipper, Jumper, Hop and Leap. Her babies made her feel happier…until she realized one of them had an issue. Her scrappiest and rowdiest one — Skipper — had started to experience hair loss and sickness. Panicked and scared she wasn’t sure what to do. One night she took Skipper with her, leaving the rest of kits with her group. Her idea was cruel, she was ready to leave her kit to die, she couldn’t handle a sick one — much less see him die, but thankfully as if it were a miracle, she found a group. The Metal Scrappers took her kit in as if it were nothing, the young kit didn’t even notice their mother’s cries as she left. It’s been many moons since that day, the rest of her kits had left and her rogue group had left her behind. They said it’s nothing personal, but the weakest can’t survive. After nights walking, Shrapnel found the Scrappers again, wishing they’d accept her despite her abandonment.

Shrapnel is connected to player character Skipper! Some things to keep in mind:

Scorched Paws Fall Opening!

Hello all, welcome back to the Scorched Desert! We're happy to announce that the Scorched Paws discord server is gearing up for our second opening!

Expect more details soon, but what we can tell you right now is:

This will be an adopt-only opening! Which means that we will be limited in the number of people we are accepting into the server at this time. Don't fret, we have other, larger openings planned for the future, but for this opening we will be utilizing adopts to keep our numbers small.

We will have six adopts available for this opening! Three for each colony. Each adopt will have their own spotlight post showing off their backstories and connections, and after all six are posted, we will have a document with every character in one spot for you to look at!

Applications will open on August 15 and extend through August 29! Expect to hear the result of the applications within 2-3 days after closing.

After the two colonies meet with the Wayfinders settling themselves around a man-made Water Treatment Plant, cats begin to meet and learn about their different ways of life. It wasn’t long before a large earthquake hit their area, shaking the ground and destroying not only their camps, but also affecting the neighboring humans. In the aftermath, a strange new cave appears on a hill in the area, formerly just a casual landmark no one ever gave much thought about. When the Metal Scrappers lose one of their own members after an exploration attempt went terribly wrong, cats can't help but feel like something isn't exactly right… They’ll definitely need more paws to deal with this.

Scorched Paws has been brought to life! With the story moving forward, we’re happy to announce that a Second Opening will be happening soon in the near future! Stay tuned to learn more :D

Rolling Applications Open!

Scorched Paws rolling applications for both the Metal Scrappers and the Wayfinders are officially OPEN!

They will be open from now until March 22nd, 11:59pm (EST)! Unlike our previous openings, characters submitted during this period will be approved as they come, meaning you can hear back from server Staff around 24h after submitting!

i'm working on my app now and getting SO EXCITED to meet everyone!!!

Things are going great! We’re all super excited to have characters make connections and slowly working on weaving stories together along with past events and backstories! :D 

And of course! The Scrappers allegiances page won’t be published until we can complete it properly and when it is, the current members of the colony will be there for folks to know and see :D For now though, have this little sneak peek!

Everyone’s super excited to see what kinds of kitties will arrive with the Wayfinders, that’s for sure! We can’t wait until we have both colonies here and roleplay finally kicks off >:)

Application Date Announcement

The earth trembles and as the ground shakes, you feel yourself overwhelmed with inexplicable dread… Do you have what it takes?

We’re excited to announce Scorched Paws is officially opening for applications on March 1st!!!

Applications will happen separately for each colony, both of them lasting a week!

Our first applications will allow folks to apply for and possibly join one of our colonies, where you’ll be able to apply for original characters or adopts! Each respective group has a number of high ranking roles open, be it through an adopt or an empty spot for original characters.

However, we’re not sure which colony to open first! So we want to give everyone an opportunity to choose: Which colony do you want to be open for applications first?

-- A diverse colony of cats, the Metal Scrappers have learned about humans and their creations through what they have deemed “trash” and mastered the art of bending even the most unnatural resources to their will and use them to make a living out of the unforgiving desert they call home. These cats follow their main faith, the belief that every cat has a great potential to offer to the world and all they need is the means to do so.

-- Quite the hardy colony of cats, the Wayfinders have mastered the art of travelling around the desert using the stars and constellations in the night sky to guide their path and survive the harsh environment they live in. Because of this, the colony is incredibly tight-knit and community focused, striving to work together as one to make it through their hardships.

Recent Events

These are the most recent events that happen before the roleplay starts, having a direct effect on both colonies' leadership, population and survival going 60 moons back.

Although they don't have specific dates determined, the list of events is still in chronological order. Some of them are left vague on purpose to allow folks to work with adopts and may also be used in situations that happened to your character for application if you wish!

Additionally, the story on how each colony was founded can now be found in our website's History Page!

The Wayfinders:

> Navigator Nightwind takes the position of Northern Star after the death of Yellowstar, becoming Nightstar. With his recommendation, the colony chooses Spiderjump to become the new Navigator.

> Peccaries become more territorial and aggressive for a quarter moon. Scouts and hunters can’t really figure out why, resulting in injured cats.

> A particularly heavy monsoon hits the desert. Although the water is welcome, travel becomes miserable. The most experienced weavers scramble to make sure their damaged woven mats are repaired or replaced.

> Nightstar suffers injuries when saving a group of trainees from a wood fox. His tail is amputated.

> Weighted down by age, Navigator Fangmaw chooses to retire. The colony chooses Coyotecall to take her place.

> The number of red wolves is suspiciously low during a journey through Wolf’s Pass. Scouts are sent out as usual regardless.

> The earth rumbles under their paws, but no one is sure what happened at all. A tender is found dead at the outer edges of Polaris Well, the cause of death undetermined, with no clear signs of tracks, scents or traces.

> One of the worst sandstorms in seasons comes down on the colony without warning. Delayed safety measures end up in injuries and even deaths. Fangmaw was one of the casualties.

> Search parties are sent out after a patrol of 3 scouts go missing. The body of 2 of them is found, with tenders saying they were most likely hunted by cougars, but they're not too sure. The last scout is never found or seen ever again, presumed dead as well.

> A young kitten is found inside a small burrow around the area of Polaris Well. After coaxing him out with great effort, tenders take him into their care. The mother’s body was found not too far away.

> The colony travels between their wells as usual, only to find out they’re either half empty or completely dried, being forced to move out of them earlier than planned. As they left the Sharp Point well, a pair of wolves attacked them. Nightstar is one of the cats killed in the battle. Coyotecall is chosen as the new Northern Star, picking a new Navigator to fill her former spot before moving on.

> Polaris well is empty. The colony starts panicking, leadership coming together to find a solution. Coyotestar decides they’ll no longer travel to the wells, instead looking for another route and then hopefully come back when things are better. The colony is divided on the decision, but eventually accepts their situation.

> They decide to follow the North Star and like Lightstar once did, look for salvation northward. After a moon of traveling, they stumble on a man-made structure where water is available and decide to rest there until they can plan their next move.

The Metal Scrappers:

> Healer Headmaster Sock Puppet passes away due to illness. Voting takes place and Healer Spoon becomes the next Headmaster. Crafter Headmaster Maddison is publicly displeased with the choice.

> The Spring’s Build Battle falls into chaos as Headmaster Maddison decides to disagree with everything Headmaster Spoon decides to do. Spoon decides to step back and allow the event to run smoothly. Many are frustrated at Maddison’s childish behavior.

> Cats are restless for a few days as the ground shakes under their paws every so often. Despite attempts at figuring out what caused it, no real conclusion is reached. Cats try to brush it aside once it stops.

> Explorer Headmaster Shark decides to choose a cat to train under them to hopefully become a good candidate for the position in the future and avoid behavior like Maddison’s.

> A big monsoon hits hard, filling cats with delight. Unfortunately, the sleeping dens couldn’t take the heavy rain and were damaged, with some kits falling ill when a leak happened in the nursery. Crafters do their best to repair things.

> A young tom named Fresh Cut Grass asks to join the Scrappers after numerous friendly interactions in his time living with the water plant. He asks to be a healer junior and Spoon takes him under his wing.

> Some humans dump trash and boxes before vanishing. Explorers scavenge for resources as usual, only to discover one of the boxes had a few young cats, barely junior age crammed inside. They’re rescued and taken into the colony.

> A Huge fight breaks out between Headmaster Spoon and Headmaster Maddison after cats fall ill when new water arrives, seemingly unsafe for drinking. Maddison blames the healer for no clear reason. Tired of her behavior, the crafters come together with the other Headmasters and Maddison is removed from her role. Brisket is voted in as the new Headmaster.

> In a walk through the territory, Brisket comes across a blue pail he decides to take for a project. To his surprise, a tiny kitten was inside. WIth quick action and the help of monarchs, the frail kit survives. Brisket names him Bucket.

> The ground rumbles again, this time stronger. Some piles of trash and other things tumble over, including the cycle’s Build Battle winner. Although stronger, the quake lasted a lot less than the first time.

> A sandstorm is spotted over the horizon and cats prepare to hunker down for safety, but luckily it blows far from the colony. Maddison is nowhere to be found afterwards and is never seen again.

> An accident with barbed wire results in Headmaster Spoon losing a leg, with infection hitting him hard. He tells the colony to choose a new Headmaster as he’s not able to provide for them like he’d like to, if he even survived at all. Fresh Cut Grass is voted as the new Healer Headmaster. Thankfully, Spoon survives, but retires to the elder’s den.

> A misplaced piece of glass results in a small fire starting in the explorer’s tent. Cats act fast and damage is prevented, but leaves cats curious.
