Gemsona October Prompts

✰ Monster Gem ✰ Your Gem was in the wrong place at the wrong time…specifically, Earth, during the end of the rebellion! Design your Gemsona’s corrupted Gem form! Were they defeated by the Crystal Gems and bubbled, or are they still on the loose? (Need some inspiration? Check out the SU Wiki and the canon gem monsters)! Or: What would your gemsona look like if they were partially corrupted like Centipeedle?

✰ Halloween Hijinks ✰   Your Gemsona goes Trick-or-Treating around Beach City. What do they dress up as? Do they go with friends, or is Steven their Halloween escort? Or: Do the ’Haunted House Reactions’ meme with your gemsonas! (If you don’t want to draw the background, here it is).

✰ Cursed Court ✰ There’s tons of gemstones infamous for being “cursed”, so many in fact, that you could make a court full of them! The Hope Diamond, the Black Prince’s Ruby, the Delhi Purple Sapphire, the La Peregrina Pearl, etc! Pick a “cursed” gemstone and create a gemsona design for it (or pick a few gems and create an entire court)!

✰ Monthly Gem Challenge: Tiger Iron ✰ Each month, we give you a weird, pretty, or unusual gem and challenge you to design a gemsona based on it! You can go as in-depth as you’d like: come up with their personality and backstory, or just make a gemsona design. They can even be a fusion of two other gems if you’d prefer; the choice is up to you! If you already have a Tiger Iron gemsona, they can participate too; this month is for all Tiger Irons! Please check our new “Monthly Gem Challenge” tag for more information on this month’s gem.

Hi everyone! A bit unfashionably late this year, I hope you’ll forgive me! This year is crammed with prompts and design challenges, so hopefully everyone will find something that vibes with them each day. I’m doing this a little different this year- it’s more of a Gemsona MONTH than a week; I know there’s a lot of prompts to work through, so I’ll be reblogging from the tags all of August! So take your time with them, choose your favorite prompts for the day and put the rest on the back burner for later. No rush, no fuss! I finished this in two days so it’s not the best but I wanted to do some storyboard practice with my gemsonas,Yellow Beryl and Blue Agate. This is their alternative way for fusing into Emerald. I didn’t want to do the whole song, so sorry it’s a little jarring and choppy. Bonus reaction at the end! ^^

Gemsona May Prompts

✰ Parent Swap! ✰ Your gemsona is now one of the Gems tasked with the important job of teaching Steven how to use his powers and be a proper Gem. What do they teach him, and what kind of guardian would they be? Are they strict? Kind? More of a sibling than a parent-figure? (Would they be a good influence?)

✰ One and the Same ✰ According to Homeworld, Rubies are disposable warriors, Quartzes are soldiers, Pearls are servants, etc. If your gemsona was used as a mold for all other Gems with the same gemstone as them, what would their defining traits or features be? What are Gems with their gemstone “supposed to” be like or look like? Would they all be big and broad-shouldered? Small and slim? Smart and shy? (Side note: If you get stuck, refer to this post. Gems sharing the same gemstone can still have a lot of variety despite being based on the same mold!)

✰ May Flowers ✰ Throwback to one of Gemsona-HQ first prompts! Draw your gemsona with a flowercrown! Bonus points if the flower’s meaning represents or relates to your gemsona. (VictorianBazaar, The Language of Flowers, and this tumblr post are all great starting points for figuring out a flower’s meaning!)

💎 HALL OF GEMS 2016!!! 💎

Hello! This is mod Angerfish from last years Gemsona Week! I’m excited to be back again. This time around, I won’t be quite so involved on the Gemsona Week blog as before, but instead I’ll be handling this end of things: Our first ever HALL OF GEMS !

✩ THE HALL OF GEMS OPENS FOR SUBMISSIONS on Tuesday, March 22nd and CLOSES SUBMISSIONS on Monday, March 28th. ✩

★ What is the Hall of Gems? ★

The Hall of Gems is annual catalog of gemsonas submitted to this blog during the duration of Gemsona Week (3/21 through 3/27). It is fairly similar to the previous Gem Fusion Project, with gemsonas being submitted and published on the blog. The core difference between Gem Fusions and the Hall of Gems is that the gem(s) you submit will not be shuffled and paired up for fusion. This is not a roll-call for fusion, but rather a nifty little spotlight for your active gemsonas on our official 2016 list! 

As a result, we’re going to be a LOT less strict about submission policies.

✩ NOTE: You may submit ANY and ALL gemsonas that you’ve created! There’s no limit, however we only allow ONE submission per gemsona character. Choose your submission illustration wisely and don’t rush it! We can’t guarantee timely edits to your submission. 

✩ MINIMUM Requirements for a Hall of Gems Submission:

Reference sheet or illustration of your gemsona. We just need some kind of visual!

Your tumblr url and gemsona’s gem type in the text post portion of your submission. 

Here is an example of what a reference sheet might look like:

Illustrations do not have to be full color and reference-worthy, though we absolutely encourage it! Strong reference material might mean someone will surprise you with gift art of your gemsona!

For the written description underneath, you can either format it like the original Gem Fusion project or do something unique to you. How you format your text is ultimately up to you! All that we ask is that you include the following minimum requirement:

[Gem Name] by [Tumblr username, linked to your blog]

Gem Type: [Insert gem type so I can tag it accordingly]

The rest is up to you. If you submit an essay, however, I will place a portion under a “read more”.

Last thing: You have until Monday, March 28th to submit gems. After that, sorry, the Hall of Gems will be closed for 2016! I will be uploading submissions at a pace I can manage with my work schedule. So don’t be alarmed if you don’t see your gemsona immediately on the blog or even the day after you submit it. I’ll keep on processing the submissions I received before submissions closed, even after gemsona week has technically ended.

★ What about the Gem Fusion Project? ★

Unfortunately, the Gem Fusion Project isn’t on the event schedule for Gemsona Week this year, but that doesn’t rule out a future Gem Fusion Challenge at a later date! Instead, check out some of the prompts for Gemsona Week’s Fusion Weekend.

Prom Night! : What is your gem wearing to prom? Do they have a date or going stag? (Sign up with your friends to participate in forum roleplay events!)

✩ DAY SIX Saturday, March 26th ★ Fusion Weekend

March Madness (Sat/Sun): Surprise “quick fusion” prompts all weekend! Meet with people on the forum & gemsona chat to find partners, or design fusions of your own gemsonas. Try to post at least one fully designed fusion before the weekend ends!

Someone Entirely New : When your gemsona fuses with other gems, they become “someone entirely new”- an experience that they’ll never forget. What is your gem’s most memorable and/or cherished fusion? How did their personality mix and mesh with their partner’s?

The 2016 Hall of Gems is a collection of gemsonas active during this year’s Gemsona Week! Gemsona Yearbook : Did something funny or interesting happen during gemweek? Did your gem make a new friend or have an embarassing moment at prom? Memorialize fun roleplays, ideas or moments from tumblr and the forum and post them under the tag “#gw yearbook”! Make sure it’s in the first five tags of your post. (Bonus points for gemsonas making “Senior Quotes”.)

♥ I can’t believe we’re already on our third gemsona week!! Last year’s events were incredible, like the crewniverse bringing us Gusite, our Archive’s official V.I.G. (Very Important Gemsona). Every year the gemsona fandom resurfaces and forms such a fun community, the week always passes by way too fast! Y'all always make the Steven Crewniverse proud… Time to do it again, so calibrate your tablet and @ your art friends.
