EASTPAK COMPETITION: BAG IN TOWN

EASTPAK, the authentic urban lifestyle brand, invites creative designers from around the globe to take part in the new design competition Bag in Town - A bag for 24 hours. Held in collaboration with the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), this ground-breaking competition explores the relationship between the bag and the urban environment.
Encouraging proposals from the worlds of fashion, design and communications, Bag in Town aims to redefine the aesthetic and functional basis underlying bag design, asking one clear and simple question: “What constitutes the perfect bag for 24 hours?” EASTPAK has always had an eye for the creative and unconventional. Which is why the brand is teaming up with IED – the international network for advanced training in design, fashion, visual communication and management – to give young minds the chance to express their creativity and explore new avenues for engaging their environment. Toon Kympers, Product Director at EASTPAK: “The Bag in Town project provides an ideal platform to invest in the talent and imagination of emerging designers from around the world. It invites new and creative interpretations of the classic EASTPAK bag as a versatile, multifunctional tool for navigating our own cities and discovering new ones.” The Bag in Town design competition is open to anyone over the age of 18. Interested participants are invited to visit the dedicated website www.bagintown.net from April 17, 2012. Design proposals are accepted by the portal up until July 1, 2012.
The six best projects will be selected on the basis of style and innovative point of view – three by a specialized jury and three by the wider public. The prizes? The six selected designers will be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the IED Creative Factory in Milan. Over six intensive days, the finalists will receive expert guidance from EASTPAK product and marketing managers and IED design management specialists with the goal of manufacturing a prototype of each design and transforming their respective projects into reality.
These prototypes will then be published on the Bag in Town website and once again subjected to public scrutiny. The design earning the most votes will be awarded a cash prize of €5000 and the opportunity to see the winning creation on the market in 2013, as part of the new EASTPAK collection.

In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon. After realizing that a woman was running, race organizer Jock Semple went after Switzer shouting, “Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.” However, Switzer’s boyfriend and other male runners provided a protective shield during the entire marathon. The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines, and Kathrine later won the NYC marathon with a time of 3:07:29.

Water Display in Osaka
It’s wonderful to experience things for the very first time and the older you get, the rarer theses moments are. Looking at this water installation by Koei Industry at a shopping mall in Osaka leaves you wondering how does that work?
