Funny how often looking through my camera lens causes me to fall in love with this city all over again. San Francisco, I embrace your the best and the worst of you. I love the way you refuse to let me forget the realities of poverty. I love the way urban human endeavor collides headfirst with nature--as if God is consistently trying to remind humanity of our own limits. I love the way your perpetual fog makes me appreciate the moments of sunshine. You are so very far from paradise, but the difficult parts of living out my life on your streets are growing and changing me in ways that no other place could. (at Valencia St. SF)

During shoots I LOVE to have the couple get inches from each other's faces while I count down from 20. Their lips can't touch until I say "one." The sweet giggles and nervous impatience hang in the air between them and the pictures we make during those in between moments are always some of my and the couples' favorites. When you're engaged, the time can seem to drag. Your mind can become so preoccupied with counting down to THE DAY that you gloss over the beauty in the waiting process. Just a little Monday reminder to stop constantly counting down, take a deep breath, and acknowledge the magic in each season. (at Grey Whale Cove State Beach)

It makes me so so happy when I get a chance to work with friends. Spent last Sunday galavanting along the coastline with this beautiful soul and her soon to be hubby. Just look at her--positively radiant! Engagement looks amazing on you, Valerie. 💍 (at Half Moon Bay, California)

Thanks for giving me my first Tesla ride @mikecurtis in between shoot locations! And for patiently enduring my failure of an attempt to "play it cool." ~ @katieanne // @mikecurtis (at Cavallo Point: The Lodge at the Golden Gate; Fort Baker, San Francisco Bay)

There's a certain amount of pressure around maintaining a social media presence as a photographer. After all, it's the primary way that your work gets out into the world. But in the last few months I've spent way too much time obsessing over which images to post, in what order, at what times, with what captions, and how the whole shebang affects my "brand presence." Somewhere along the way I forgot the passion and art of capturing a moment and sharing it out of sheer joy. Taking the time away to reflect has helped me to have more perspective about how little that shiz actually means to me or anybody else. Here's to sharing the things that move you when you feel like it and getting on with your life. 🍻 (at Rusted Mule)
