I saw this image in a meme so i looked up and found the original picture. i really enjoy finding things like this and it amazes me every-time when i see them because it is absolutely unequivocally untrue. What i don't understand is how something like this is even allowed to be legal. Not just legal but also ethically and morally allowed to be in a public area. Billboards like this are usually seen on highways so they are seen by thousands of thousands of people everyday. How is this ok? Studies aside marijuana has no connection to being gay or lesbian. This is probably proven somewhere but does not need science to back it up. Something I've noticed while being in college is the importance of citing your information and if you have an idea to portray, it needs to be backed up with evidence. A lot of media and billboards in these times never cite anything. Its weird to think about but everyone is just able to say anything and have people listen to them and consider their ideas even if there is nothing to back it up. Im also bias when talking about the subject of marijuana because im from Washington state, one of the most liberal states in the country. We’ve had marijuana legalized for years and from my experience ive seen nothing but positives coming from it. One positive is that by making it legal its not only made jobs by opening shops that sell, but it also has made it easier to obtain in a legal way. Marijuana has always been very easy to obtain so at the very least it is now obtained safely and legally. Another positive is the tax. There is always a higher tax on substances that are not good for you (alcohol, cigarettes). This gives the government a way to make money off people who are choosing to spend their money on a not so healthy lifestyle and better the community.

I found this scrolling through reddit the other day and had to laugh out loud. I mean how is advertising like this even allowed or capable of being posted. Well the true reason is because ignorance exists so heavily that people will just believe things they see online. As someone that’s involved with technology, I immediately see the flaws this has. First its not even showing the cables being plugged into the router. The machine being plugged into looks more like a switch or even DVD player. Second the router is the white machine beneath it so there’s that. Another problem is that an HDMI which is the “tiny device that can double your internet speeds and supercharge your WiFi signal” is just a combo audio and video cord that gives sound and connection between your two devices. I found it funny that they were using one of the most well known and accessible of the cables and using it to try to trick people somehow. I’d guess about 60 percent of people would know what an HDMI cable was. I’ve also heard of TheGadgetReviewGuy before and thought that they were a genuine company who’d help consumers with there tech. This clearly shows otherwise. Word count: 206

This is a billboard i stumbled upon while looking at things for a different class. Immediately, my response was wow. Not only is this disrespectful but this is also wrong. It amazed me that something like this was even allowed to be put up. Ads can be over the top and can even be a little offensive but this was both. The message the billboard is trying to communicate is for protection against animals as well as the vegetarian movement. Though I’ve always had a harder time understanding those who choose to be vegans or vegetarians, I’m open to discussion and thought behind them. This however shows a lack of understanding on how to send your message in an appropriate way. The ad depicts a women who is overweight with he quote “lose the blubber , go vegetarian”. My first response other then how inappropriate it was was that going vegetarian isn’t even the healthiest way to lose weight. Peta is well known for their over the top and sick methods of advertisements and this in my opinion is one of their less offensive ones. This doesn’t make it okay however. Saving whales and losing weight have no correlation to eachother. And technically neither does being vegetarian and losing weight. A “healthy” lifestyle does not necessarily mean just be vegetarian. Another thing I found funny about this is that we don’t even eat whale. Whether you’re vegetarian or not has no affect on you saving whales. The body shaming of women being portrayed as whales and to lose blubber is also wildly inappropriate. This is not new however to PETA. They are notorious for getting reactions out of people with these ludicrous ads. I don’t know how one becomes apart of PETA and have such wild interpretations of animal safety. Though I have heard in the past that they would intentionally put animals in harms way and advertise them to then show how bad animal cruelty is. Just sick. As an animal lover I couldn’t begin to fathom acting this way.

This is a sign I see every single day on my way to school. It’s located right across the street from the entrance to USF that I use. I find a lot of advertisements like this to be funny because of how and where they are placed. It’s definitely targeting the fact that many college students are in debt and want to exploit that. The target audience sees this sign and always has in mind that they could call the number to reduce their credit. I’ve never heard of these types of credit erasers actually being viable so I’m curious to know if it’s an actual scam or not. If it isn’t a scam then it’s a great way to advertise to those who need their credit erased the most. If it is a scam however I think it’s exploitation. They know who they are targeting and the students that are in crisis may fall victim to something they are hoping will help solve their problem. Every time I see it, it bothers me because I’m unclear on whether it’s trustworthy or not. Through others , I’ve only ever heard bad things. It takes a long time to earn a good credit score so It seems very convenient that someone can fix yours just like that. It’s suspicious and does not seem reliable. Sorry the picture is so bad, I took it while driving! Word count: 236
