Guide to Choosing an Energy-Efficient Air Conditioner for Your Home
Beat the heat this summer with a powerful yet cost-effective AC. Energy-efficient ACs can reduce your electricity bill by 30% in some cases. Here’s ac buying guide for an energy-efficient AC in 2020.
Tumblr media
Energy Star Rating
You will notice a 1 to 5-star grade as a sticker on your AC. These are ‘BEE’, EER, or SEER stars - all of which are a five-point scale for assessing how energy efficient, and hence, cost-effective, your air-con is. 5-star ACs consume the least amount of electricity for the best cooling capacity. They are rare in most appliances and expensive to install. If energy efficiency in the long term is your goal, investing in a 5-star AC is worth it. If you want to save on future electricity costs at a relatively affordable investment, look for 3 BEE stars, which are more readily available.
Inverter AC
AC’s come in two varieties: inverter and non-inverter types. Invest in an inverter AC for more energy-efficient output. It adjusts the speed of its internal compressor to control the rate of flow of the cool air. Many inverter ACs on the market can sense the heat outside and accordingly ramp up or cool down their compressor in response. Due to this ability to alter its own speed, it automatically consumes less electrical power than non-inverter ACs which have a fixed output no matter the external conditions.
Split AC
Another aspect of ACs that falls into the energy-friendly category is their shape. Split ACs are typically more energy-efficient than window ACs. This is, in part, due to the fact that Split ACs have a better capacity to cool over Window ACs. They cool a room more evenly with filters that move left-right and up-down. A Window AC mostly cools the area around it the strongest. Hence, for the same cooling capacity Split ACs tend to use less power than Window ACs.

Lost Your PAN Card? Here's How to Get Duplicate One
A permanent account number (PAN), issued in the form of a PAN card by the Indian Income Tax Department, is a ten-character alphanumeric identifier, and is one of the most important documents given to an Indian citizen. It also serves as proof of identification, and without quoting the PAN card, one won’t be able to conduct certain financial transactions, for which quoting is mandatory.
Tumblr media
Losing a PAN card can be exasperating, and the individual will have to get a duplicate PAN card by applying for it online. Before applying for the duplicate PAN card online however, it is imperative that the original PAN application must have been processed through NSDL e-gov and/or e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department. Furthermore, it is also important that the individual’s email ID or phone number must have been provided during the PAN application to receive the OTP.
One must first visit the TIN - NSDL website, and select “Reprint of PAN card” option, followed by clicking on ‘apply’. Then one has to choose the type of PAN they want as duplicate, and fill up the form, while providing necessary details such as PAN card number, phone number and email ID. Afterwards, individuals have to submit important documents such as photographs, ID proof and proof of existing PAN card they want to reprint. Upon making the payment, they will receive an acknowledgement with 15-digit number, which they can use to download e-PAN card, while the hard copy will be sent to their registered address within 15 days.

A Big Differentiation Guide on Nach Mandate and ECS Mandate
The National Automated Clearing House (NACH) is a centralised payment and transaction processing system, launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). NACH was put in place to replace the ECS system to simplify and manage payments made in bulk across multiple banks. Furthermore, NACH will also manage recurring payments, such as insurance premiums, credit card bills and SIPs.
Tumblr media
With NACH replacing ECS systems, it is important to understand the key differences between the two. The ECS mandate verification is done based on physicals, and is thus time consuming, while NACH is a robust mandate management system with a defined workflow, and takes comparatively less time.
Unlike ECS, NACH provides a unique mandate registration reference number, which can come in handy for future reference. Furthermore, the rejection ratio is high in ECS due to mandate related issues, while the paperwork involved in NACH is less, and thus the rejection ratio is comparatively less. Yet another major difference is the settlement period of the payments; the payment gets settled on the same day with NACH. However, it takes anywhere between 3-4 days for the payment to get settled with ECS.
Finally, unlike NACH, ECS does not feature a dispute-management system to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. The dispute-management system (DMS) in NACH ensures efficient creation, escalation and resolution of disputes with respect to mandates or payment transactions. Thus, NACH facilitates and ensures faster and efficient ways to process transactions for the users, as well as the service providers.
