For the sake of Rafael's love for Olivia, I am almost sorry Elliot came back. And that Olivia has been so ignorant and eventually so dismissive of Rafael's genuine (and so obvious) feelings for her, she went with everyone but him and then Elliot completely pushed him out of the picture, and Rafael seemed to not have realised what competition he was in for and how carefully he had to thread. He realised too late how deep Olivia's loyalty to Elliot went, and how unhealthily deep her emotions were. Rafael would have offered her a much healthier, stronger and happier relationship than any of those she had before, but it seems the girl is conditioned to seek out the complicated and convoluted and tragic. Rafael deserved better. And Olivia, too, but then sometimes the "safe" and "good" is not enough....

This might be a stupid question, but what exactly was the inscription in Hamlet's book that Shakespeare dedicated to Lucifer? I cannot make out what he thanks him for. A lot of people have inferred that they'd been lovers, and I don't know how they've connected those dots. Thanks. ☺

No, they were not lovers. Hamlet is one of the plays which is placed in the mature phase of Shakespeare’s work although it is hilarious it is also the play which deals with a lot of father issues…  Every character in the play has something to say about their father…. It’s no wonder it is thus so popular. Hamlet idolises his father but is angry with his mother (sounds familiar?), also the Prince *cough* had a HUGE ego… Again, sounds familiar? 

The writers picked Hamlet because it is essentially a psychotherapy analysis of every possible relationship you can have with a father figure aside from one. A healthy one…

Anyway, to quote a few lines with the appropriate explanation I turned to the web and so here you go: 

QUEEN GERTRUDE Why seems it so particular with thee?HAMLET ‘Seems,’ madam? Nay it is. I know not ‘seems.’‘Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother,Nor customary suits of solemn black,Nor windy suspiration of forced breath,No, nor the fruitful river in the eye,Nor the dejected havior of the visage,Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief,That can denote me truly. These indeed ‘seem,’For they are actions that a man might play:But I have that within which passes show,These but the trappings and the suits of woe.(1.2.78-89)

From his very first scene, Hamlet sets himself up as someone who hates deception and values inner truth above all. Here, he insists that outward appearances (like his “inky” black clothing, sighs, and tears – all the common markers of grief) can’t possibly “denote” what’s truly inside him. In other words, Hamlet’s saying that his anguish and grief over his father’s death are far more intense than they appear to the outside world. He’s also implying that Gertrude, Claudius, and the rest of the court are totally fake and disingenuous because they don’t care about him or his feelings at all and are far too concerned with keeping up appearances.

Finally, never forget that Hamlet is about Revenge, Lies, Deceit, Family Issues and the lingering presence of a vengeful father’s ghost… Not to mention that there is also a tiny amount of obsession over sex in Hamlet’s head but not in a way you would think it today… Still, at that point in history, it was a bit provocative with some Oedipus complex to sprinkle on top…. 

So no Lucifer and Will were not lovers but Will was an instrument of Lucifer to vent about his father and everything that troubled him at that time… Think of Shakespear as a male version of Linda but without any actual advice to give…
