A) Your favorite materials and why
My favorite material was the porcelain; it was more comfortable and beginner-friendly compared to the terracotta clay. I felt that over the course of the semester, this material in specific allowed me to project my ideas better.
B) Your favorite assignment and why.
My favorite assignment was the museum piece. I feel that in this assignment specifically I had more freedom, and I was able to translate my ideas better. Visiting the museum was very helpful and inspiring not just for this class but also in my other artistic interests.
C) Comment on some obstacles you may have experienced this semester (learning-wise) and how you were able to overcome those obstacles.
I had a hard time at the beginning adapting to the medium; my ideas were not fluctuating properly, and I was still stuck in the 2D mindset. The way the clay would dry really fast, I found it really frustrating.
D) And close by explaining how you were able to overcome any challenges you may have had using materials or with a particular assignment during the semester.
The more I worked with different projects, the more I adapted to what the medium had to offer me; it was almost like learning a new language. I feel that the project that really helped me understand it better was the museum-inspired piece. I know it was really down the line, but it genuinely helped me feel more comfortable with this media.
Additive: Additive consists of adding piece by piece and is a more construction-oriented approach to create the form. Some examples of additive could be coiling, slab building, and modeling.
Subtractive: More focused on reduction, this process involves removing amounts of the material in order to create the desired shape. Some techniques based on subtractive could be Carving, trimming or incising
Constructive: This technique consists of creating pieces that involve more planning and are more purposeful. This type of project needs more structure.
critical thinking: Involves analyzing and planning with depth, analyzing, reflecting, and evaluating the designs. Is it functional? Does it fulfill its purpose? What worked in the process? Multiple insights in order to create something successful.

Figure drawing (2) Midterm

“Self portrait”
Acrylic, color pencils and white w charcal on watercolor paper
30x22
I chose to portray myself this way because I wanted to present myself in a very vulnerable manner. I've always believed that self-portraiture is something deeply intimate. Since I was exploring these concepts, I decided to depict myself nude. Lately, I’ve been looking at the paintings of Luis Caballero Holguín, which have inspired me a lot.
I wanted to convey the duality of my vulnerability—this constant openness to others, yet with a lingering sense of caution. That’s why each pose embodies a different energy. The figure that represents a state of alertness, holding the Three of Swords card, is gazing directly at the viewer. I aimed to make this stare as piercing as possible, as if keeping watch over the other person, guarding myself. It represents that part of me that doesn’t easily let others in.
In this piece specifically i decided to experiment with acrylic, color pencils and white charcoal.

FD2 Reflection
Watching the videos and reading about all of these artists has given me a more broad sense of the human figure. From all artists I learned a unique way to portray a subject, to represent someone from different points of view, process and material.  What impressed me the most on the way they work is how they are able to use their style. Since i started getting more involved with the human figure, I always tried to go to the more “realistic” look, but after really digging into the work of Kooning, I found it really captivating the way Kooning deconstructs and shreds the human body, giving its purest form an unique perception while creating a landscape at the same time.

3D Design reflection
After watching all 6 videos we can point out the main ideas that impulse this artist to create art is to break the barrier of what the objects were originally created for, and give it a second chance to exist as a manifestation of another idea. Assembling objects from our daily life,or even what we considered waste material can be transformed into something more meaningful. This type of art really challenges the author to take a closer look at what most people miss in the small things or details.
The way these artists go about their work when it comes to collecting and assembling is to find a subject of matter that interests them, and then find different sources to acquire material related to this subject just like Joseph Cornell, who was highly interested in ballet and used a lot of elements of this disciple in his pieces. It amazes me how even the objects are in a sort of way collected randomly, each artist has a strong sense of style that is quite recognizable.

My favorite material for this semester was ink. I really enjoyed it since it was the first time that i tried it and i fell in love with it. My favorite assignment was the self portrait since is the first time i made a drawing this big, and it was also quite challenging. Some of the i found was the proportions and i was kind of heavy handed, practicing in my own free time helped me to over come this obstacles. The blind contour was definitely the hardest one for me.
My final thoughts on this semester drawing class is that it definitely helped expand my knowledge. I learned so many things that im excited to applied in my own personal work. My expectations for next semester is to take the continuation of the class in order to get better and explore different mediums and approaches.

My favorite material in the class was acrylic. During this semester, i would say that my favorite assignment was the Diptych self portrait. This specific assignment helped me to step out a little bit of my comfort zone, it made me to create art separating my previous perspectives and revisit concepts with a different approach.
One of my main obstacle was just painting itself. I never fould painting a comfortable medium before, but this semester really helped me to step out of that comfort zone that was holding me back. I enjoyed every assignment because i felt that i was just constantly learning something new. It helped to translate my ideas better, and learn how to respect what this medium offers me.
My goals for next semesters is definitely to work on my main flaws, such as time management. Painting taught me how to be patient and really take my time to work, this requires an adequate use of my time. My expectations for next semester is to keep trying to get better and be more consistent. Im really excited to take the next class so i can challenge myself more and be better.
