I took these pictures at Illumination at the Morton Arboretum. The lights projected onto the trees made the trees look magical. I was inspired to take these pictures because the colorful lights at night made the trees look mysterious and different. The bright colors stand out against the black of the night.

The light in this photo enhances the colors of both the metal and the wood. The colors of the rust on the metal stand out and you can see the different colors of the black metal. The metal was also slightly wet, which made the colors brighter. The darkness of the wood also contrasts with the black metal. Overall, the light in this photo emphasizes the colors of the black textured metal and the rusted metal.

In this photo, the man is looking above and behind the camera with a pensive look on his face. He may be trying to decide which direction to go since he appears to be on a bike path. The man appears to be alone, as no one else is in the picture. His hand is in his pocket, causing his body language to be relaxed. Perhaps, he is admiring the nature around him while taking a break from biking.

The image on the right with a toy ball and trash thrown down a window well convey a general disregard for upkeep. The photo on the left contrasts this idea, with the words "Resurrection Project", which conveys a want to clean up and revive an area. These photos together convey why the Resurrection Project is needed in this area.

I was prompted to take this photo because the plaza has a variety of bright colors both on the walls of the building as well as in the flags strung across the plaza. Prior to this class, I probably would have taken a photo of the plaza and the bright colors, but not with someone in the photo. I also would not have focused on the person with the background blurred. I think this photo is successful because the colors and the murals on the building are visible and the colors are vivid, but they are not the main focus of the photo. The girl is looking at the murals with a wistful expression, which I think conveys her interest in the the murals.

My photography class went to Pilsen, a neighborhood in Chicago for a field trip. We took pictures of different murals and people in the neighborhood. Pilsen is interesting because of the variety of different murals throughout the neighborhood. Because we went during the celebration of day of the dead, there were also a lot of skeleton decorations as well as Halloween decorations. I was inspired to take this photo because it was an interesting older car. On the scavenger hunt we had to take pictures of something abandoned and something empty. While this car was not necessarily abandoned, it was not in perfect condition and was sitting empty on the side of the road. The muted colors of the car were also interesting and the boxy shape of the front of the car is different from many newer cars. Overall, I took this picture on our field trip to Pilsen because the car was captivating.

I placed an ordinary water bottle that had been crumpled up on a glass table. I thought it was interesting because the jagged edges of the water bottle contrasted with the smooth curves of the table. The clear silver of the water bottle blended in with the blueish silver of the table. The horizontal beige line of the table going across the middle of the photo stands out against the silver colors in the rest of the photo. The line is also slightly distorted by the pattern of the glass tabletop. The black circle in the middle of the photo also contrasts with the silver colors in the photo and helps the water bottle stand out. The water bottle stands out because a portion of it covers up some of the black circle. Overall, this photo is fascinating because it is hard to tell what surface the water bottle is on because of the frosted glass pattern of the table. The water bottle also blends in with the blueish silver of the table, which causes the viewer to search for the water bottle.

Although it may not be clear, this photo is of ordinary water bottles submerged in water in a teal green tub. There are four water bottles with white circular caps that are contrasted with the light teal green around them. The edges of the photo are a dark teal of the bucket, while the middle of the picture is a lighter teal. The faint lines on the water bottles help define the object that is otherwise translucent. The bumpy yet smooth texture of the water bottles are conveyed by the bright whitish green of the circles that show the bottom of the water bottles. The water bottles were in this tub originally with ice for a party, but the day after the party there were still some left in the tub now submerged in water. Overall, I think this photo is interesting because, at first glance, it is hard to tell how many water bottles are in this tub because they blend into the water.

When I first heard that I had to take 50 different photos of a garden hose I did not think that I could find 50 different and creative ways to photograph a hose. After taking a few different photos of the hose at school, I was running out of ideas, but after moving the hose around a little bit, I came up with a few more interesting ideas. At home, I included my dad and my brother in the pictures and we all had fun playing with the hose to get different pictures. In the end, taking 50 different photos of a hose was not as hard as I though it would be.

A garden hose is an ordinary object that is used fairly often for mundane tasks. What makes the hose extraordinary is the people and objects placed in the photo with the hose. In this photo, the hose is made extraordinary by showing a different application for a garden hose. Typically, a hose is used to water plants, but in this photo it is being used as a water fountain. Drinking from the hose is a fun summer memory for many people growing up. Changing the perspective on the use of the hose makes it extraordinary.

Depth of field is determined by the size of the aperture. A larger aperture has less depth of field and a larger aperture has a larger depth of field. The photo on the left has a big aperture and a small depth of field, so only the monkey is in focus. The photo on the left has a small aperture and a large depth of field, so the monkey and the fence and the grass are all in focus.聽

ISO is a measure of the camera鈥檚 sensitivity to light. A higher ISO will make a photo brighter, as the light sensitivity is increased. But, a higher ISO will also create more noise in the picture and make the photo grainier.聽

Shutter speed is displayed in this picture by how blurry the pinwheel is. A faster shutter speed will freeze action, like with the pinwheel on the right. A slower shutter speed will blur action like the pinwheel on the left and in the middle.

This picture represents aperture because a large aperture lets in a lot of light and a small aperture lets in a small amount of light. The man is lighter when a large aperture is used than when a small aperture is used.聽

I am a swimmer, so Jeff Cable鈥檚 blog was interesting to me as he shoots all four competitive strokes in swimming. He is also an Olympic photographer, specifically for the U.S. water polo team. Because of this, he also has posts of several different sports in the Olympics since he is there for the duration. His photographs are interesting because they show aspects of the Olympics that are not shown on television as well as the culture of the Olympics. Overall, I like Jeff Cable鈥檚 blog because he shoots a wide variety of sports at many different levels, including swimming.
