âTheyâll love you Emma. How could anybody not? ButâŠif things go south, and theyâŠthey see you as a monsterâI justâŠI donât want you to get hurt.â He tried, feeling as though it was necessary to add. âI canât make any promises Em.â Russell added once more with a slight shrug. âOhâŠare you sure about that. Sounds like youâre just testing me. Wanna see how quickly I can take my clothes off?â
âDoes your opinion count? I think you might be a little bias.â She teased, an eyebrow raising. âWhat do you mean youâre not making any promises?â A light chuckle escaped her as he continued, amused by the prospect even with them being the in the living room of her family home. âTakeâem off. Iâll be sitting here. Canât say the same for the rest of my family and what they might do, but give me this show. Iâm ready to watch.â

âWe could always tell them the truth and then if things go sour, then you can compel them to forget?â Russell offered back, trying to give her some sort of solution to the issue. âIt might be hard, butâŠmaybe itâs worth a shot, you know? Then you have compulsion to lean back on if all else fails.â He didnât want to push her into either direction because ultimately this was her choice. âIf he shoots me, Iâll be fine, but then theyâll both find out what a real monster I am.â He teased back. âWhat? Oh, I hardly doubt that. Iâm sure I could make you show a little PDA in front of your parents.â
âRight,â she said slowly. âI forgot about the whole compulsion thing. It feels weird to do it on them, though. Theyâre my parents, theyâve always loved me no matter what. My hope is that itâll continue through this too.â That was the one outcome playing over and over. Emma scoffed, âRussell Montgomery, you are not allowed to become a monster in front of my parents.â She gave him a pointed look, quickly putting another foot between them. âSee all this space? Nothing you do will make me cross the invisible line Iâve now made.â

He lifted a brow back over her, getting amped up for later already, a surefire sign they wouldnât run out of inertia anytime soon. His grin pulled up as he nodded back gracefully. âYou know I will support you no matter what you decide to do. If you want them in yours lives though, the truth seems like the easier route.â He muttered back in a short whisper against her ear. âIâm always trying to cause trouble, plus, your dad seems more of like a no-nonsense kind of guy. I thought Iâd help him ease up a bit.â He shrugged half-heartedly. âIâm calling that bluff right now. You couldnât keep your distance for more than a day at most. Especially with all my Valentineâs Day plans.â
She sighed, knowing he was right but unsure of how they would take it. They loved her unconditionally all this time, why would that need to change. âI want them in my life, but Iâm worried they may not want me in theirâs.â Emma shook her head, the joke hard to not laugh at. âGood thing you heal from most bullet wounds. His gun is probably within reach as we speak to use it on you at any moment.â She scoffed, scooting over slightly. âTotally not true. How much do you want to bet I can keep my hands off of you until weâre actually alone? No, PDA whatsoever throughout all these plans you have.â

âOh yes, my sophisticated older woman. Does that mean youâre a cougar then?â He grinned back to her, letting her touch ease him back into her while he searched her face slowly. âTechnicalities and such aside, we both look great and will continue to look great no matter how old we get.â His chuckle left him reeling back slightly, before he glanced over her forsaken attitude. âOnly if you want me to. I was going to tell him that thatâs what I call you in bed, but I figured I didnât want to poke that sleeping bear right now. Just you wait until we get back to the hotel. I shouldâve rented out the whole floor weâre on.â
Her head tilted as she thought it over, âI sure can be. Not right now, though. Thatâs something we can save for later.â This life felt so simple. No added stress except hoping her parents would approve of him. Even if they didnât, she would still be with him, but it did make things easier if they did. âA love hate relationship with who we are. I donât know if Iâm ready to tell them, but I know I need too. It doesnât feel right to show up years from now looking exactly the same.â She would only be able to hide it for so long until the inevitable would happen. âYouâre trying to cause trouble arenât you? Plus, youâve never called me that.â Her finger pointed at him, âAnd donât even think about saying it later or I will make sure thereâs a 3 feet gap between us for the rest of this trip.â

âWell, donât tell them that.â Russell chuckled back, adding in a slight elbow into her side as he glanced over her. âI donât like being the oldest in the room sometimes, you know? Especially when they treat me like Iâm still a kid.â He feigned a sort of whine, as if he hadnât already experienced plenty of this before with others. âIt should ease his mind, but as one old guy to another, it makes sense. heâs just trying to protect his little âEmma-bear.ââ He teased her still, placing a soft kiss onto her cheek.
âThey donât have to know that part, but all they know is that youâre younger with the age youâre stuck at. Itâs not my fault you fell for a sophisticated older woman.â Emma placed a hand at his cheek, a slight grin on her face. âIf it makes you feel any better, we can tell people Iâm the oldest in the room. Itâs all technicalities.â She groaned, throwing her head back onto the couch. âAre you going to start calling me that too?â The smile returned, looking over at him as she took his hand in hers. âWeâre doing rather well with this controlled PDA thing. Iâm surprised.â

âYeah, very interesting. Though, it makes sense, who you are now, raised by them.â Russell found it to be an immediately intriguing idea to meet her parents, and now that that had come and passed, he only grew more curious about her past, finding a curiosity among himself. âHe didnât scare me away, no. Not that much can scare me away. ButâŠI guessâŠit just didnât seem like he liked me is all. Not that I would let that stop me from seeing you.â
This trip emphasized how little she had told him about her past, where she grew up and the briefness of him meeting her brother but only now meeting her parents. She felt lucky enough to even have this visit be possible with their re-connection happening at a time while her parents were still alive. âYeah because youâre so old and all.â She joked, a light chuckle escaping her. âIâm not sure heâd like anyone I brought home, nor would I let it affect anything we have either. This is the happiest Iâve ever been, which hopefully should ease his mind about you.â

âYou know I would do anything for you.â Russell interjected easily, finding the trip to be something so out of the ordinary, despite it becoming a rather ordinary adventure, though with Emma, it turned into something even better, as always. While resting on the couch in the home where she must have grown up, Russell was still ogling over the number of pictures with her and her brother filtered over the walls, something he continuously pointed out with a grin. âThough, this was sort of a must in terms of things I needed to come see. Your parents areâŠinteresting.â
With everything going on back home, it was easy to forget how ordinary life could feel. Just a regular trip where he could meet her parents, and they could see she was happy. After everything that had happened with the kidnapping, her parents could rest easily knowing that. A smirk played on her lips, looking up at him. âInteresting? You donât so confident in your answer. Did my dad scare you away already? Iâll need to mentally prepare myself for you to up and leave me when we get home.â She joked, trying to keep herself from laughing.

A lifetime seemed to pass since the last time she sat in her childhood home, a different feeling with her being less than human. She hadnât brought herself to tell them, not yet at least. Before they returned to Hawthorne, she would need too. The rest of their life couldnât be lived out not seeing them if she had a choice. Emma leaned into him on the couch, feeling as if this were their first moment alone since arriving in Oregon. âThank you for bringing me. Iâm not sure I can say it enough.â

It would have been too much to ask for, the evening going off without anything bad, but as Russell managed to reach the place, he let out a sheer gasp, shaking his head as it seemed people were already fleeing the wreckage that had been caused, an entire wing seemingly destroying under the force of whatever inside. âFuck.â He murmured, looking back to Emma, his expression of concern growing deeper as he tried to push past people, yelling his brotherâs name out.
It took a moment for her to come out of her shocked state, jaw dropped as she stared at the building. The hope nothing would happen was too much to give the town credit for, thankful they decided to stay in for their own safety. Now, Emma needed to worry about where their friends and family were. She looked at Russ, a sad expression forming as she saw the worry for his brother. Her feet started to move, following him into the building as she looked around for anyone she might know, the nurse in her wanting to stop at each person to make sure they were okay. Emma paused before trying to cut him off, âBen can heal himself, he should be okay. If you want to look for him, Iâm not going to stop you but I have to help people.â

It was alarming to say the least, as Russ quickly got into a some clothes while trying to call Ben on the phone, the line going straight to voicemail as the call couldnât be completely at the time. âOh shit.â He muttered, stepping into some pants, before pulling on a shirt. There wasnât any time to waste, and as he kept redialing anybody he knew that was the party, he slipped into shoes, before pulling Emmaâs hand. âShit, I canât get ahold of Ben, or anybody else at the party. IâŠWhat if something bad happened, like at all the other events.â He had a terrible feeling as he swiftly made his way outside to start the speedy run towards the city hall.
The worst case scenarios ran through her mind as she got dressed, the relaxation of the night long gone with whatever might be happening outside. With Russ trying to call people and not getting through, worried her for everyone she knew at the party. There couldnât be one event where something didnât go wrong, staying in and believing it to go smoothly sounded a bit naive now. âWeâll check it out and go from there,â she wanted to remain calm enough on the outside, even if she was wracked with fear for her friends. Emma followed him, speeding towards city hall, or at least what was left of it as she saw the wreckage. âHoly shit.â

âWho knows, maybe technology will grow so much in the next few years that weâll actually be living in the future.â He grinned eagerly, letting their time fade by slowly. Skipping was surely the best idea either of them had had, getting the house to themselves again and having all sorts of fun. âTraditionally skipping the centennial celebration sounds like a solid plan.â After another round of spontaneous sex, and the evening spent with Emma, Russell easily continued to lazily lay int he bed, turning to her and stroking her hair again, the position they once held before, when a sudden jolt rocked the house, and left a rather jumpy and curious feeling inside of Russ. âThat couldnât have beenâŠan earthquake?â He sat up as he looked to Emma, hoping to confirm the suspicions. âWhat was thatâyou donât think it was the celebration?â
A night in because exactly what she needed with each passing moment. The time spent with Russell being everything she could have asked for. Her head lay on his chest, relaxing into the position she started in earlier in the night. The shaking of the apartment woke her up out of the relaxed state, staring up at Russ with a similar confused expression. âI donât...think so?â Something about it didnât scream earthquake, but Emma refused to think the worst either. âI really hope it wasnât.â She sat up, quickly getting out of bed and heading to the closet. âThereâs only one way to find out.â

âYou heard me. It would be something new entirely.â Now, making a sex tape wasnât exactly something Russell had thought of before. He thought he had a little bit more class than that, but he very much wanted to be wrong about that, seeing that she was interested in it already. As mischievous of a grin that showed up on his face, Russ found himself already itching for more while their hands explored each other again. âYes maâam.â He muttered at her sudden forwardness before following her directions and taking a seat on the bed at her guidance. âWho needs a centennial celebration. Weâll be around for the next one.â He chuckled as he let himself lean back on his hands on the bed while looking her up and down.
âGuess weâll have to keep it in the cards then.â There would come a time when something new would be needed to spice things up, or so Emma thought. She hoped she might be wrong, seeing as her love for him grew each day, which included pleasing him in any way she saw fit. A smirk appeared on her lips, slow following him to the bed, standing in front of him as he made himself comfortable. âWill we go to that one with the same excuse? Iâm not sure thereâs a better way to spend centennials.â She leaned forward, resting her hands on his thighs. â Maybe we can make it a tradition.â Emma started to kiss at his neck, slowly trailing down his chest.

âEach new century weâll find somewhere new and craft a new life together. Itâll only be the best adventure Iâve been waiting my entire existence for.â He grinned back, letting himself fall into the spiral of love he felt for her. âIâm sure we could test that theory out easily enough.â Russ chuckled back before she quickly seemed to know what she was doing. âOh? Iâm sure if you really wanted to, we could get into the filmmaking industry, watch our playbacks to every fine detail.â He joked with her against her lips before pulling her back into the kiss as his jacket slipped off his shoulders. Shrugging it off and letting it slide down his arms and onto the floor, Russell let out a haughty breath before his hands went to explore her body once again.
âFilmmaking? Now thereâs an interesting concept.â She chuckled, leaning into him as he brought her close again. Her hands ran up his chest, exploring every inch before pushing the shirt off to join his jacket on the floor. An eternity with one person should have been daunting, but with him she felt invincible, a confidence she never had with anyone else. He made her a better person in more ways than one, this being one out of a number of ways to show him just that. âSit,â she stated, pulling away to back him towards the bed. A smirk played on her lips at her thoughts, âI hope youâre ready to keep your word on trying to break this because...weâve got all night.â

He looked to her with a bit of a grin, easily adding, âYou always look your best, so you donât have to worry about that. Plus, weâll live long enough to redo the whole thing when we declare ourselves dead in 70 or so years.â Maybe not the most romantic thing, but there would be a whole new cycle of people on the Earth, and he would easily get married to her however many times he needed to. As he shuffled in his suit, he added with a slight shrug. âThe bed? You trying to break it tonight?â His grin said everything he wanted it to, the smugness and the confidence as he looked over her frame as she stepped closer to him. âAnd I have the sexiest woman in the worldâand you know what else? Sheâs a bit of an animal when it comes to taking off my clothes.â
âI will gladly marry you over and over again. How will you ever top yourself each time?â Their life would never be boring, a different life each time they got to recreate themselves in a way. A new chance to fall in love, get married, have more kids if they already had some. Her hand ran over the buttons of his shirt, easily breakable along with the other things theyâd already broken together. âWe should at least give it a shot. Might be indestructible since it hasnât broken yet.â Though, she wasnât sure if theyâd really tried to do that in the first place. Her eyebrows lifted as she bit her lip, âIs she? Hmm, I might need to witness that for myself.â The hand on his chest went behind his neck, pulling to her for a kiss before slowly pushing off the jacket. She smiled in their kiss, biting his lip lightly before tearing at the buttons of his shirt to reveal his chest.

âNo, not since college, god no.â Russell chuckled back, letting his glance bounce back down to Emma, looking over her body all too easily as they were able to relax once again. âIâm just letting you know that I could pop the question any time, so you should always be on your toes.â He grinned back, knowing all too well that he would marry her right then and there if the timing had been perfect. But, he also wanted to give her the most elaborate proposal too, something that she would talk about for centuries. âPerhaps we just need some steel-enforced furniture, not that I donât love breaking stuff with you.â He lifted up again, before pulling himself towards the edge of the bed. âI wonât be long.â He disappeared into the closet where his suit was hanging, before he rushed to get right into it, happily reappearing before Emma to strut the suit off.
She waited for the nervousness to kick in at the talk of marriage, instead filled with giddiness about when it might happen. This moment of only the two of them could have been made perfect, yet the timing still seemed a bit off for such a proposal. âGuess this means Iâll always need to look my best at all hours of the day. Iâll need to be presentable for pictures when it does happen.â Her hands patted at the bed, looking down at it before giving him a playful smirk. âYou know the one thing we havenât broken yet? This bed. Seems kind of odd that weâve broken multiple pieces but not this one.â Emma sat up as he left to get changed, keeping the thin sheet around her as she waited for him. A bout of laughter came out as he reappeared, wolf-whistling at him. âI think itâs official, I have the sexiest boyfriend in the whole world.â She crawled off the bed, letting the sheet fall as she stood in front of him, a stark contrast to his fully clothed form. âNow, as hot as you look in this, itâs coming off just as fast.â

âOh, donât be like thatââ He paused, before taking a glance to the side drawer on the table next to the bed, a more mischievous smirk pulling at his lips. âWhat if I told you that I didnât have to leave to get the ring?â He said impressively, still on top of her and growing all the more comfortable. âI was hoping youâd say that though. Youâre still plenty young, and while I might be some crazy old guy, Iâve got a lot of spirit left in me. Letâs find our wilder sides.â He chuckled back, adding, âIâve got plenty of suits for you to ruin, donât you worry your pretty little head about that.âÂ
Her eyes narrowed as she looked up at him. âWhat do you mean you wouldnât need to leave? Have you been trying to propose since college?â Emma continuously regretted not giving him more of change when they first met, grateful they somehow found each other anyways after everything. âI think I found it yesterday, and the whole neighborhood might know by now too. As many things as weâve gotten fixed and needed to be fixed, the wild side has already come out.â Emma grinned with excitement, âGo put on that suit then. I deserve to see it at least once.âÂ

âShit. And this was not how I was planning on this goingââ He paused as he looked down upon her, letting her lay on the bed as he leaned over her softly. âIf itâs kids youâre after with me, then would you do me the honors of marrying me then?â It wasnât the real way heâd propose, but showing off his tiny grin to let her know he was all but joking, Russell added, âWhatever happens Emma, Iâm here for eternity, with you. I waited too long for feelings like this, and youâve only provided me with the most love I could have ever hoped for.â He leaned further down, kissing her before whispering against her lips, âI can go put it on solely for you to rip it off.â
She giggled, her teasing leading him to this sort of proposal, one she would say yes too at any point. Right now though, it didnât feel quite right yet, this moment only brought on by the mention of taking care of Bailee. Instead, Emma continued with the joking banter. âRussell Montgomery...I will not marry you after such a weak proposal. Thereâs not even a ring! And if you leave this bed right now to somehow pull one out, Iâm leaving.â She grew serious for a moment, staring up at him. âOne day we will get married and have kids because I canât imagine having either of those without you. For now, I want to enjoy you and us before we add children into the mix.â Her arms wrapped around his neck as she kissed him, the hint of a smile creeping onto her face. âYou know itâs going to be ruined if you do this? If youâre okay with it, please indulge me.â
