❝ I’ll never kiss you again. ❞
“You were a TERRIBLE kisser anyways,” Emmeline quipped back, though her heart wasn’t completely in it as she was taken aback from his statement. Intimacy, in any kind, was hard for her -- he knew that & challenged that more than anyone she knew. In fact, most of their arguments were challenging in a way they both didn’t seem to shy from because deep down she knew she needed it, that she needed him in her life regardless of their differences. “If you do try, I’ll probably bite your tongue.”

aaliyahzabini:
eyes were staring and she knew it. she was used to it by now, after marrying three times and being a widow twice. aaliyah zabini was associated with many different rumours by now: the silver-tongued, the slut who married for money and the black widow — the latter was the funniest to her. it had been a couple of months ever since she had left the zabini mansion. motherhood had taken a tool on her but she wouldn’t let anyone outside those walls know it. “ i wonder what’s the new rumour this time. “ perhaps the person sitting next to her didn’t realize the amount of looks, perhaps they were there exactly for the gossip. “ what did i do this time? kidnapped a baby? robbed gringotts? or was i responsible for the new deaths they announced this morning? “
Of course, Emmeline had heard of Aaliyah Zabini -- how couldn’t she? The mysterious murders, though never something she had to deal with herself in investigating, had been things she heard about. Besides the papers had practically dedicated a section to her as well. She smirked at Aaliyah’s comments, looking at the person who’d been staring at her quite rudely. “Probably ate the baby you kidnapped or set every goblin on fire in Gringotts, who knows what they’ll come up with next. Though, I think I saw an article on a trash paper about you SACRIFICING your ex husband’s remains for a ritual including dark magic. Maybe the bloke staring at you will next, hmm?”

It HURT, nearly physically, to see Emmeline’s insecurities so bare and naked. She saw herself in them, too — compliments were things Hestia had not yet learned to handle, as she was too riddled with confusion regarding herself to understand them. “You are,” she said, voice perhaps softer, but there was a certain forcefulness in them too. Emmeline was one – if not the most – beautiful people Hestia knew, and she needed her to see that, too. At her next words, she could only smile, a blush creeping on her cheeks. “Stop it,” she muttered, waving away Emmeline’s words. “I’m hardly that. I just try not to be a dick, most of the time.” She pulled up her legs. “Maybe you should. Now, I mean. If not, you always have me — best friends are kinda like therapists anyway, I think. Besides, you won’t have to wait on an appointment with me, so that’s a big plus.”
Emmeline didn’t believe it and perhaps she never would -- but Hestia’s reassurance helped fight her mental demons into a quiet rumble, not a roar. She wasn’t going to fight her then, she knew how foolish that would be. “HARDLY that? Oh, you are most definitely that. It’s amazing, really. Besides, even the mere fact you try not to be a dick is remarkable. I know a lot of folks who just don’t give a rats arse, but you, you always try. That’s something that’s more than fantastic. You are the kindest person I know & most possibly in this universe and I am willing to fight you on that for all of eternity.” Emmeline knew she should see a therapist, she knew it was the right thing to do -- but how could she? Would the therapist even be trustworthy in their current political climate? There were things she’d never be able to tell a therapist, not now, and things that HAUNTED her that she couldn’t unpack at the risk of falling apart. It just wasn’t the time.
“That’s true. I hope you can talk to me as well, though we both know I’m not the best at actually solving problems or anything of the sort. I am a good listener. I just think it’s not the right time? After the war, I’ll do it. But now, it’s just .... IMPOSSIBLE. Opening up about the wrong information could go into the wrong hands, y’know?”

Quiet & calm, though it wasn’t exactly the perfect definition of it, Emmeline felt the past few weeks had been. There had been some turmoil, yes, which was expected in the middle of a war but regarding her own cases -- she’d been less than preoccupied. She decided to comb through old ones, checking up on people, making sure that they were still okay, alive & functional. HUMANITY was part of being an Auror, at least, she hoped it was. Nevertheless, it was something she was trying to practice even if brought her face to face with more anguish & destruction caused by the war around them. As she walked to Moody’s office after getting an owl from him, her mind couldn’t help but wonder what it was about -- though knowing him she’d find out soon. With a quick knock to alert him of her presence, she opened the door, walked in and shut it immediately. She knew the man liked his privacy.
“Hi, I’m here. D’you want to go take a walk? I think some fresh air could do both of us some good. It’s a little musty in here,” she noted aloud, looking around his office.

Standing on the very tips of her toes, Jacqueline reached for the vile that was on the top shelf and huffed softly when she was only millimeters away from grasping it. “Oh come on,” she grumbled to no one in particular.
“Here,” Emmeline grabbed onto the side of the cabinet next to the where the vile was, lifted herself and jumped to try to grab the vile -- luckily succeeding. “All that Auror agility training finally paid off for something, didn’t it?” She remarked, handing the vile over to Jacqueline.

‘ no. ‘ she wasn’t really listening to the question, but it was the easiest answer. she had paperwork to file, and it was tempting to just burn it and pretend she’d done it. there was a good chance no one would even notice. it wasn’t like the ministry’s filing system was particularly comprehensive. ‘ can’t you see i’m busy here? ‘
“I see you’re busy,” though, Emmeline didn’t care -- she wasn’t a rude ( always ) person, but she figured that since they’d both be filing paperwork, they could chat. Emmeline did like to check up on people from school, especially people like Bellatrix. “I think we’ve been assigned to file paperwork in the same place. I don’t know why we can’t have a friendly, CIVIL chat, Black. Or is it Lestrange now?”

“Oh come on — I was JOKING. Anyone who does not think you attractive is a fool, just so you know,” she said. At Emme’s other words, she could feel her cheeks redden, too; She had never been good with receiving compliments ( giving them, however, was one of her skills ). “Oh, it definitely is, and feelings most surely are … I hardly know how to handle them, and I’ve been on this planet for over twenty five years now.”
“Well, I’m not,” though her tone was light, even though both her and Hestia knew that Emmeline wasn’t joking in regards to her feelings on her physical appearance. It wasn’t important, not really in these times, but Hestia was always so kind, always honest & genuine with her kindness. Emmeline couldn’t help but believe the compliment because of it. “Oh, I thought you were from a DIFFERENT planet, actually. One where everyone’s kind because you’re probably one of the only ones left one, really. You’re otherworldly,” she smiled, getting up from their couch going to grab some more food. “They’re ridiculous. I’ve been told to get therapy through work, but it’s just not something that’s not going to happen until the war’s over.”

ettalockheart:
Etta stood behind the counter of the quills shop she worked at. It was a job that was under her skill level but she was too stubborn to leave the wizarding world, so she took whatever job she could get as a Squib.
She was leaning forward onto the counter and had a red lipstick in her hand, with which she was applying lipstick. Her red hair was up in a beehive and she was wearing a checked shirt and a high waisted skirt, combined with high heels. She was still obsessed with 60′s fashion, though she had made it a little less conservative than the actual fashion of the previous decade. She didn’t mind being seen as vintage or old fashioned. Everyone who knew her, really knew her, was aware that she was anything but conventional.
Someone entered the shop and Etta barely moved. She was still leaning forward on the counter but did put down her lipstick and then looked up at whoever entered. “Hello there.” She said.
“Hi,” Emmeline smiled, a tight smile as sometimes human interaction wasn’t her strongest suit especially around people who had MESSY histories with the people she cared about. She’d been putting off this visit for over a week now, but she’d finally run out of her usual pens and knew that some of her coworkers didn’t prefer them -- for some odd reason. Maybe it was the prejudice, maybe it was being stuck in old ways. Either way, here Emmeline was at the quill shop getting quills from Hestia’s ex-girlfriend who she felt absolutely hated her. Not that she really cared, she could take hate, but it didn’t make interactions easier or less anxiety provoking.
“Do you sell quills in bulk? It’s been a while since I’ve bought them and I’m buying them for a bunch of us at the Auror’s office. I USUALLY use pens, but, they seem to love their quills.”

Dropping down in one of the seats, Greta slouched back and draped her bar towel over her eyes with a tired sigh. “No more, I’m officially dead. Remember me as I was!”
Emmeline couldn’t help the small smile that curled on lips at the girl’s EXAGGERATION. “Would you like me to put that on your tombstone as well?”

“Well, that makes two of us,” though Emmeline couldn’t see it, a BLUSH rose on her own face, creeping up her neck and painting her cheeks. “For the record, Hestia Jones, I find you very, er, attractive. Attraction is weird though, isn’t it? Feelings are maddening in general.”

itsamos:
“ i’m so sorry ” amos stuttered out, sheepish smile on his face. cedric had been SO excited for his ice cream, his little hands waving wildly, that the cone slipped between his fingertips, mint chocolate chip landing across the robes of the person behind them. “ he just um – he’s a bit clumsy. here let me – let me fix that for you ” he put cedric down, with strict instructions not to wander far ( instructions that fell on deaf ears, he was already teetering toward eeylops owl emporium ) before rummaging around his pockets for his wand.
“ it’s um, it’s here somewhere. ”
Emmeline easily had mixed feelings on the concept of having children, so it was admirable to see other people have them & deal with them, especially in the calm manner Amos did. She smiled down at Cedric, even though her robes were STAINED, she didn’t really care -- he was a child. It was an accident. They’d live. “It’s all fine, Amos, really, I can take care of it. It was simple accident. I like the green it adds to my robes, anyways.” Her gaze shifted to Cedric, offering him a small smile.
“You’re a little D E V I L aren’t you? Should I lick it off my robes? I do love mint chocolate chip icecream,” she turned back to Amos, “any ice cream, really. This was a gift. A badge of honor.”
