Ever think that Dwarves would be writing sci-fi shit instead of fantasy novels? Like really. These guys are masters of crafting and making machinery and you *don't* think they'd find ways to *theoretically* have instant communication or travel the stars?
More variety in your fantasy species, please!!

Could you maybe reblog this post if you think respecting trans peoples' names and identities is a basic right and not a political opinion?
No pressure. Just seeking some validation of my sentiment. Due to some. people

Who's stopping you, Gaud? Should I, a punny opossum in the garbage, fear the rules of society built for eldritch beings?
i should be able to occasionally call dibs on a cloud

Game night with the besties!!!
why aren't there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:
decades of life experience
boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness
access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence
"I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit" attitude
and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.

since cql gave us Jiang Yanli with a sword, I’ve been obsessing about the name of it. what was her relationship with it? as it was not an extension of herself the way it was for others in her family, did that lack of relation cause problems? did it bother her that zidian was given to her brother instead of her? was it her suggestion? if she had used her sword, would it have changed the events of Nightless City?
I have so many questions and it’s such a small detail shift, but it changes so many things too just by adding it in because it forces the story (at least it should) explain why she does and does not do certain things given the fact she is a cultivator to an extent. cql gave me more Jiang Yanli, so I’m thankful, but it excludes her more just by not explaining why she’s not tracking the same way her brothers are.
if you have head cannons for names, or any of these questions, please send them to me. I’d love to hear them.

Modern context for The Hobbit:
So you live in some nice town in nowhere, Europe. Nothing happens here, but, like, the whole town is surrounded by ruins, and battle sites, and history. Mostly touristy stuff that you don't care about.
One of your mom's old buddies from when she went backpacking on her gap year shows up and asks if you want to go on a maaaagical adventure, and your like, dude. I'm not 5 anymore. And ask him to leave (politely, cause he's not an ass, just old).
Next thing you know, a whole bunch of garbage men have invaded your home, eaten literally everything in your house that can be eaten, threatened to break all your dishes, and appear be there by your mom's friend's invitation.
So, like, you're pissed, right? But they get you one more time saying "oh, yeah, so like there's this castle on the border of Ukraine and Russia that the Nazis stole from my family and they’re still there. Help me steal it back."
So you, being of sound mind and not a total dumbass say "this sounds like a scam. Fuck off." They’re like, fair enough. We didn't want your Karen ass anyway.
You aren't a heartless monster, though, so you let their drunk asses stay the night... and they sing something so perfect you don't care if it's a scam, or if they're gonna sell you to one of those sex slave rings you've heard about, you just wanna see it.
That's it. That's The Hobbit.

10/8/20
Life is slowly returning to normal. Editing has resumed, and it looks like I’m going to be ready to post again on Sunday.
Spouse may or may not be able to go back to work after having a break down. It turns out that 18-wheelers are considered heavy machinery and there’s quite a few drugs that keep a person from actually driving them... This, of course, is why my spouse ended up in the worst possible situation.
This also means I have less time to write/edit. Between taking care of Spouse, I’m also trying to find a job. Please be patient with me for now.

I don’t think I’m gonna get anything out this week.
I spent most of yesterday with my spouse in the hospital. I barely have the strength to type this out.
As a PSA for anyone in the USA: If you have a suicidal loved one who needs urgent care, take them to a big hospital with a psychiatric unit. Small hospitals can’t actually do much for you and they’re just gonna call a bigger hospital to get you transferred. It takes forever, and it’s pretty stressful for all involved.

Okay, guys. Here’s the deal. I’m in kind of a bad mental place right now. I’m forcibly pulling myself out of a depression torpor, mostly by forcing myself to clean the house. I know for a fact the next chapter isn’t gonna be ready on Sunday (26/7/20) as promised, and I feel really horrible about it.
Don’t worry. I’m not suicidal. You won’t wake up one day to find out I’ll never post again. Occasionally, I just stop being able to function without direction. Just bear with me, please, while I try and force myself into some semblance of functionality.

LMS’s Timeline Explanation
I thought it was a little strange that Konoha wasn't still financially suffering at the start of the show if the Kyuubi attack came within a year or two of the end of the war. Konoha is an interesting government system seeming to operate as it's own nation at times, while at other times it seems to be under the authority of the daimyo. Since the economical and political effects of major world events aren’t exactly the focus of the show, I can let it slide.
LMS, on the other hand, somehow turned into a political thriller. It was supposed to be a drama with heavy whumpage, but ya’ll seem to like it? So here’s how I see the system working.
Konoha both is and isn’t part of Fire Country. If you asked any random civillian outside of the Hidden Villages, the daimyo leads the nation whereas the ninja villages act as the nation’s armies. Of course, ninja tend to believe the kage are the real powers behind the thrones. The truth is somewhat in the middle, and it falls down to economics.
The daimyo controls most of the means of production, so the Hidden Village's wealth comes less from trade or goods and more from services. They also don’t control much in the way of farmland, as it’s much harder to defend and much harder to hide, so they have an agreement with the daimyos. Ninja have a discount for citizens of the nation they operate from, and they are subject to local tax laws rather than foreign. In practice, this creates a system that is both similar to the United States (one over-arching government with smaller governing bodies under it) and not (the daimyo and the kage hold similar powers/abilities to deal with foreign nations).
Now, because Konoha also doesn't control much in the way of farmable land, they'll have to expend money to bring in food/textiles/other goods. War also has the unfortunate side effect of being rather bad for crops, as a common tactic to destroy moral/weaken the opposing force is to burn/steal/poison the opposing side's crops. Thus, at the end of the war Konoha would be hemorrhaging money to keep their people afloat. A major war would drastically cut down Konoha’s staff, leading to being unable to take all the jobs they need, as well as damaging their public image abroad. All this leads to a reduction in returning cash flow. Add on the Kyuubi attack, which lowers the staff even more. That means a product (ninja service) scarcity in the Fire Country, which will drive customers to find another, cheaper, source. So, this puts Konoha at an even worse disadvantage than other nations, leading to them slowly disbanding until Fire actually has no military presence. There are ways to come back from such attacks, but Konoha's leaders are military leaders. Not politicians. They also seem to be chosen by whoever the previous Hokage liked the most, which isn't exactly the basis for a stable government.
Which leads into the political side of things again. With a politically savvy leader, aide programs and allies can be utilized to mitigate the effects of food shortages/staffing issues. For all that Sarutobi is said to be a great ninja, we rarely get to see his political prowess. He must have been at least somewhat decent, but looking at his decisions he was either woefully uninformed (the Danzo debacle) or outright just not great at handling political problems (the Uchiha mess) leading to the truncated timeline being untenable when taking global politics into account.
Major disasters also have a habit of spawning a new generation, so in LMS Iruka’s generation is the war-time-baby-boom while Naruto’s is the post-Kyuubi-baby-boom. In short, that’s why we have so much time passing between the war and the birth of the next generation.
This has been my deep-dive into the political situation of Konoha as it pertains to LMS. Sorry for the long rant.
TL;DR: Ninja economics revolve around selling services instead of goods. Ninja leaders are chosen on the basis of being good ninja and not good politicians. Ninja don’t farm, so they have to buy food from other places. So to be able to financially come back from two back-to-back tragedies, they have to have a longer time frame to recover.

Including tomorrow’s chapter, it looks like I may have ~7 chapters to go. YAY!
Not so yay, is the fact that the sequel only has three chapters so far and I have no idea where I’m taking anything. TeenageCrisis gave me some good fuel for a scene, but I’m not sure where to place it.
I’ve been disinterested in Naruto for some time now, but I think that’s mostly because so many fics just straight-up retell the plot. It’s hard to be invested in a story that you’ve read a million times with only minor variations. Sooooo... I have a question for my readers. After LMS ends, do you want to see the sequel, a different Naruto fic, or should I branch off into other fandoms?
