Zoey, I love this project! I love how you used splatter, pencil lines, and watercolor to create an abstract background. The use of cool colors makes it very pleasing to look at. The scraps that you used from your collage fit well with the theme you created in the background. Great work!

Brooke, this piece is amazing! I like how you used a background with only squares and then contrasted it against the geometric shapes you created with the collage pieces. The colors all compliment each other well. The character you made is super unique and creative! Awesome work!
Final
The first movement that I incorporated into my piece is futurism. I used inspiration from the futurism movement to draw my background. Since futurism pieces are super high energy, I wanted to incorporate different colors (green, purple, blue). Also, there is no pattern with the colors. Instead, they were drawn in randomly to fully capture the chaotic feel that futurism brings.
The next movement that I incorporated into my piece is surrealism. Surrealism is quirky, weird, and fun. Surrealists often use objects that contrast each other, so I thought it would be fun to paste human features on a clock and add a cowboy hat on top. Furthermore, pieces of art in the surrealist are often symbols to represent different things. By pasting a face on a clock, it can represent the human obsession with time and how time dictates our lives.
The last movement that I incorporated into my artwork is abstract expressionism. A main characteristic of abstract impressionism is the "All-Over Composition," meaning that artwork does not need to be confined into specific shapes. To add to the background, I cut and drew out a bunch of unique shapes of different colors from magazines and construction paper.

Lily, this piece is so cool! I love how you used a bunch of different shapes and lines to create your background. The colors of this piece go so well together! I also like how you incorporated the gems to include a variety of materials in this. Great job!
Final
For my artwork I made a background using paint on a canvas. I was inspired by the cubism unit when creating the background. I used familiar shapes like circles, squares, triangles etc and then also incorporated made up abstract shapes in all different colors.
In the next part of this artwork, I was inspired by the unit on abstract expressionism. I wanted to use a different medium so instead of paint I used a fine point marker for this step. I made abstract shapes and lines to add to the canvas. After finishing with the marker, I went back to paint and used the technique of splattering. The last material I used for this part was sticker gems to add to the abstract of the piece.
In the last part of my piece, I created a character inspired by my work from the surrealism movement. This character is similar to that of Frank from this unit. I used paint to create him and marker to add his facial features.

Final Project
For my final project, I combined cubism, abstract expressionism, and surrealism. In the top half of my project, I used the geometric shapes and fragmentation of cubism. I wanted to create a stained-glass window effect with this aspect of the background with the thick black outline contrasting against the bright colors of the shapes.
In the bottom half of my background, I used the random abstract qualities of abstract expressionism. I wanted to layer materials, lines, and marks to contrast against the more organized rigid manner of the cubism half of the background. I wanted to create a fun, vibrant, creative background with a lot of lines and shapes along with demonstrating contrast between two different movements.
For the central focus of my project, I created a character inspired by the surrealism movement. Using scraps from magazine pages that I have used from prior collages, I created the character, Bonnie. I used a variety of items to create a weird, unique, and imaginary character rooted in the characteristics of the surrealism movement. I used the phrase “End of the Road” to represent the end of the semester. I also thought this phrase was especially fitting as it is the end of my final semester of undergrad! Thank you for a great semester, this class was so much fun!

This piece is so cool! I love how you created contrast in your background by splitting it in half with curved and straight lines. I also like how the colors are bright, but do not take away from your character being the focal point. Your character is super futuristic and creative. Great job!

This is Bob the eye Blob! He is a floating orb from another planet! His favorite activity is to float around and watch the humans do their daily activities- he finds them fascinating! When he isn’t flying around he loves to snack on pizza and dorito’s! He can also change color based on his mood!!

Dada Puppet Project
For my Dada project, I created a puppet named Bottlyn! She is an adventurous puppet who loves to sing, dance, explore new cities, and go to fashion shows! Her bright eyes and big heart make her a joy to be around! I made my puppet from a Pepsi bottle, cupcake liners, straws, and a tissue box. I used some magazine clippings to create her face and give her a heart. I made her mobile by using some twine string, even though it was not the easiest to control.

Surrealism
For this assignment, I created a character named Melody Notey. Her favorite food is a Jazzberry Jam sandwich. Melody's hobbies include singing, dancing, and playing any instrument she can find!

Futurism
For my phrase, I chose "innocent fun." Growing up, I mainly participated in outdoor activities and sports, but when I was given access to technology it was for simple, innocent fun like playing games on the Disney Channel or Webkinz website or watching a princess movie. In my piece, I tried to show the contrast between these two types of "innocent fun" with outdoor play and technology use by breaking the page into each of these categories.
