The softyisification of piper mclean is horrendous. She is judgemental and headstrong and outspoken and can be inconsiderate of the people she isn’t hyper-fixated on. She is also at her core trying, just trying, so hard to be good. She can’t help but be kind deep down, but she’s no natural hero. She is tempted by personal loyalties and desires, she is possessive over the people she loves, and she is so afraid of losing people. Her duty vs her greed (and on a realistic scale her “greed” is just fear for her fathers life, but it can also stretch into her possessiveness over Jason and her reluctance to give up what her peers are willing to- she does not meet up to the standards of a Greek hero. She is only a child. Her reactions and self indulgence is the most realistic of any character) is a major battle for her, and is confronted multiple times. She is no natural hero, but she learns. Only she doesn’t forget herself along the way. But she is not a maternal, benevolent beauty. She is not an incredible friend, because she has been abandoned by her father and is desperate to keep the people she has latched on to. This can sometimes hurt them. Jason feels he has to constantly apologize for mentioning or missing his old life, because it makes piper jealous. He’s made out to be an inconsiderate and emotionally stunted boy for not considering how piper would feel about his own memories that had been stolen from him, because she worried about Reyna. She said that she had been “prepared to hate her” (Reyna) just because her best friend had been stolen from her, and piper failed to consider how she would feel, because she was so focused on Jason not forgetting about her. Her worst fear had happened to someone else, and she fails to sympathize or understand, instead becoming immediately defensive. THIS IS NOT PIPER SLANDER. I actually think that limiting piper down to traits the she DOESN’T EVEN HAVE is the true slander, and it’s definitely gendered. Why would a female character be limited to two traits that she barely presents. Why are good women made out to be some sort of caretaker? She isn’t motherly, or big sisterly at all. She is jealous and kind and insecure and trying, always trying. And that’s what makes me love her so much. She working so hard, but she’s willing to make the effort, because in the end she wants to help people.

I'm truly sorry but the current scene stuck in my head is Percy's had a bad cold or something for a while but he's hanging out with his mortal friends and all the sudden has a bad coughing fit and chokes out this rock hard Thing covered in blood bc it scratched his throat and everyone is just staring in horror while he's like hmm. so who wants to drive me to the hospital? and he's alone in the backseat while his friends are busy freaking out and breaking the speed limit so he's checking out what he coughed up (they put it in a sandwich baggy for the doctors) when he realizes it's a fucking pearl. his body made a pearl it's only bloody bc his throat was dry and he's like...well there's no way to explain that to doctors so he's like hiding it in his pocket and has to let the bag go out the window acting like he lost it by accident and he's like 'oh oops...' while his friends are like PERCY DID YOU JUST THROW YOUR FUCKING TUMOR INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC?!?!
