LOVE FOOL — CHAPTER NINETEEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 3696
————————————————————————
It was finally sports day. The day of sports. The day you dreaded the most out of any day of the entire year—more than finals week (but maybe that was only because you were academically smart).
Thanks to Yizhuo, your hair was done into two low pigtails to keep your hair back. You always complained how horrible you looked in a high ponytail and refused to keep your hair down during this event, so your friend, who is amazing with fashion and beauty, helped you out.
“You look cute!” She exclaimed as you stared in the mirror in disbelief.
“I look like a child.”
“Get over it. It’s cute. And you’re cute.” She winked at you as she put on her jacket.
The whole school was wearing either white or burgundy tracksuits (school colors) for sports day, and you happened to get burgundy while Yizhuo got white. Apparently it was Freshman and Juniors with white, and Sophomores and Seniors in burgundy.
You were already in your track suit, and it wasn’t the most flattering in your eyes. Your sleeves covered your hands, which was the only thing you liked about it. In all honesty, you didn’t even look bad, but you just made yourself believe that.
As you made your way to your class, you saw some students from the other class joining yours. You all had to wear the same color arms bands to distinguish teams, and of course you guys got bright pink. This color scheme was not fitting your taste nor did they even go together.
Heeseung saw you enter and quickly came over to give you an armband.
“Thank you,” you said, taking the arm band from him and going to find Jiung.
The poor boy was left hanging. He was hoping to have some conversation with you before the relay race, but you just walked away. Heeseung didn’t want to think too much into it, so he tried to forget it. But when he saw you walk up to Jiung and Taeyang, he started to doubt himself.
“Don’t tell me this color was you’re doing too,” you said to Jiung.
“I thought you liked pink?” He questioned, nervous at your calm attitude.
“I do. But with this combo? What were you thinking!”
“Well, sorry, president. Maybe you should’ve helped and got them instead!”
“I was busy.”
“With?”
“None of your business.”
Jiung laughed as you crossed your arms. “Okay, kid.” He poked your cheek and flicked your right pigtail before leaving to give out more armbands.
You were about to start arguing with him again, but stopped when he rushed away. “Can you believe him?!” You asked to Taeyang who only chuckled lightly. “I don’t look like a kid do I?”
“Of course not…” He tried to contain his laughter, but of course you noticed.
You scoffed. “Why do I even call you guys my friends.”
Heeseung never pulled his eyes away from you ever since you left. He couldn’t help but doubt himself as you conversed with your friends. He knows he shouldn’t be jealous of Jiung, but he was. It wasn’t flirting for the two of you, but it looked like it to Heeseung. And it didn’t help with the way Taeyang was looking at you; and everyone knew how you two were together.
Heeseung wanted to be in their place badly.
After your class, as well as Heeseung’s class, gathered and got armbands, you all headed to the track to prepare for the race. You weren’t there for signups because you were helping with the set up in the gym, so you hoped you were on a good team; and by good team, you meant Heeseung’s team.
“If you don’t know your teams, the paper will be at our table!” Jiung shouted for everyone to hear.
You rushed over to the table, scanning the sheet for your name, but you found Heeseung’s first instead.
Moon Chaeyoung
Lee Heeseung
Yoon Keeho
Kim Minjeong
Your face dropped as you read it again another 3 times to make sure you were seeing it right. You shouldn’t be disappointed since you weren’t there to make decisions, but you were; you were hoping that he’d write your name down beside his after it seemed like he wanted to be on your team. But, it was over now.
Choi Taeyang
Ln Yn
Choi Jiung
Park Soo Ah
At least you had your friends. That’s all that matters. Besides, it’s just a race. It’s not like it’s going to determine your entire fate with Heeseung.
You made your way over to your group, sneaking a glance over at Heeseung’s. As always, he and Minjeong hit it off so perfectly. They should just be together. It annoyed you to death, but even you couldn’t deny that they looked good together.
“You ready?” Taeyang asked you, seeing how uneasy you looked.
You nodded. “Yeah..”
Your group would be racing after Heeseung’s, so you sat with your team, cheering them on. The race was going smooth at first, Keeho ran gracefully, but Taeyang and Jiung thought it was the most funniest thing in the world— watching him run was entertainment to them.
Minjeong went after Keeho, and she was pretty fast. However, just as she was about to pass the baton to Heeseung, she tripped over herself and was about to fall. Luckily for her, Heeseung was there to catch her, and she fell right into his arms. You could see them mumbling words to each other, and you could hear people around you giggling and whistling at Heeseung. You looked away from the race and down at the floor.
“I’m gonna go get water,” you announced.
“Water before a race isn’t good!” Taeyang tried to stop you from leaving.
“It’s just a little water.”
“Yn, do you want to throw up after you run?”
You stared down at your friend, finding him really annoying right now because all you wanted to do was leave. You were missing Heeseung run, and you didn’t want to be there for when he and Minjeong do a congratulatory hug.
“And who’s to say you won’t ditch us?” Jiung teased, pulling you down next to him. “Just ignore them,” he whispered that part to you so no one else heard. You knew exactly what he was talking about, and you were glad that he noticed.
After Heeseung’s lap, Minjeong tried jumping on him for a hug, but he quickly backed away and looked over to you to see if you were watching him. But you weren’t. You were looking down at the floor, kicking rocks to distract yourself from him. He was upset that you weren’t watching, and now he just thought that maybe you didn’t like him anymore.
Your team and his team switched places. Keeho threatened you guys to do well or else he would “do bad things” to you guys later, but everyone only rolled their eyes at his threat. You, however, didn’t acknowledge the team at all. If you did, you would have to face Heeseung and Minjeong together, and that’s not something you were up for.
You were second in the race just like Minjeong, which meant your times were going to be compared. All this comparison with Minjeong made you want to cry. You wanted to give up and let her win it all— to win the race, to win over Heeseung. You knew it was wrong to feel this way over your friend, but you couldn’t help how you felt.
After you ran and passed the baton to Jiung, you stood beside Taeyang and held onto his arm. His comfort was what you needed right now, and you really were trying hard to ignore those intrusive thoughts. Taeyang let you hold his arm; it’s not like it was anything abnormal.
Over at the steps where all the teams were waiting, Keeho felt the tension waving off of Heeseung. He side eyed the guy and saw him clenching his jaw. Then Keeho fully looked over at him.
“You okay?” He asked nervously.
“Fine.” Heeseung’s answer was quick and dry and Keeho tried to fight back a smile. He had a feeling on why Heeseung was getting upset, and he was going to tell you all about it later.
The race was finally over, and after adding up all the times, your class came in second. Despite not falling over like Minjeong, you still lost to her and her team. It upset you honestly, and it was stupid to you yet you were still annoyed.
You went back to class, taking off your sweater and tossing it onto your desk. You sat down and rested your head on top of your jacket, taking deep breaths to calm yourself down. Everyone thought you were going to the restroom, so no one bothered to follow you, luckily. You needed time to yourself to think about everything.
In all honesty, you just wanted everything to go back to the way things were before this school year started. You wished Heeseung never came back into your life and you wished Minjeong said something about him before you did. Maybe then you wouldn’t be feeling this way.
After taking some time to yourself, you headed to the gym which was where your next class sport was. It was couples yoga, and you didn’t want to participate. Balance was something you were never really good at, and it would only be frustrating for your partner.
When you entered the gym, you saw a bunch of boys surrounding Minjeong. It was probably because she was tiny and would be easy to lift, whereas you were nothing like her.
“Yn!” Someone shouted ahead of you, grabbing your attention.
Heeseung was jogging over to you, and you tried going to opposite direction to avoid him. This was the last thing you wanted.
“Can you be my partner?” He asked, making sure to stop you before anyone else could ask you.
You stared up at him blankly. Then looked over to Minjeong who seemed to be fawning over all the boys asking her. “Yeah. I can.”
“Great!” He had this wide smile on his face that made your heart flutter. And suddenly you were calming down just because of his smile and excitement to be your partner.
Heeseung made sure to grab your hand, letting everyone know he had a partner and that it was you. Jiung and Keeho were making googly eyes at you, but you ignored them because all that mattered was that Heeseung was actually holding your hand.
“I’m not that good at balancing,” you told him as he sat on the cushioned mat.
“That’s okay,” he smiled, grabbing your hands again to pull you down with him. “Just relax and I’ll help you.”
You nodded, feeling more assured being with him. Heeseung holding your hand and grabbing you to sit so closely with him brought butterflies to your stomach, and you hoped the blush on your face wasn’t evident.
“I’ve been trying to talk to you all day,” he confessed, looking down beside him at you. You met eyes with him, which made you nervous so you looked away.
“I didn’t know that…”
“Yeah… You seemed to be really busy, so I didn’t have a chance.”
“Did you need something?”
“Nope!” He smiled down at you again. “I just wanted to hear your voice.”
You felt like you were going to faint. How can he say something like that so shamelessly. Clearing your throat, you nodded and scooted away from him.
Now that you were sitting in front of him, you began to stretch to prepare for the yoga you two would be doing while also trying to calm down your heart that was beating 2 times too fast. Heeseung didn’t pay any mind to it, and you didn’t expect him too since you were just stretching, but you did notice his gaze falling somewhere else.
On the other side of the gym was Yunjin. She was partnered with Keeho for this sport, and they seemed to be getting along really well. Considering they were both English speakers, they clicked instantly.
You frowned slightly, noticing Heeseung couldn’t take his eyes off of them. Maybe you were too quick to assume he felt anything for you; he was probably being friendly and you were thinking too much in it.
“Do you miss her?” You suddenly asked, sitting criss crossed and facing Heeseung.
“Hmm?” He hummed, looking back in your direction. You weren’t sure if he didn’t hear or if he was asking for clarification, but either way, you didn’t get your answer because the teacher announced for everyone to get into positions.
Your mood instantly went down, but you were good at hiding it. And since you and Heeseung weren’t necessarily close, there was no way he’d be able to notice.
Heeseung laid flat on his back as you stood up. He held up his hands for you to grab, and lifted you up in the air on his feet. The pressure hurt your abdomen, but you weren’t going to tap out so soon and make him lose. Heeseung, however, looked at ease as if this was the most easy thing for him.
“What were you saying earlier?” He asked you, but you didn’t want to talk for a multitude of reasons. One being because the pressure on your abdomen wouldn’t allow it, and two because you were too upset at him.
“It was nothing,” you answered shortly.
However, Heeseung knew exactly what you said earlier; he just wanted to know if he heard you correctly. You weren’t wrong with your assumptions; Heeseung was looking at Yunjin earlier, but he wasn’t about to tell you that.
You surprisingly held up for longer than you expected. It was mostly thanks to Heeseung for holding you up, but you were shocked that your poor balance didn’t make you lose.
“We’re down to the two finalist!” Mrs. Choi spoke through the microphone. “Yoon Keeho with Huh Yunjin, and Lee Heeseung with Ln Yn.”
This obviously made Heeseung very flustered considering his legs almost gave out. You weren’t super heavy; light enough for Heeseung to hold you, but feeling his legs shaking beneath you made you feel bad. You looked up to find Keeho, and it didn’t look like he and Yunjin were backing down any time soon.
“You can let me down if it’s too much for you,” you said to Heeseung, but he shook his head.
“I got it,” he replied back.
You shut your eyes to hold back the deep sigh that you wanted to let out. Something was bothering Heeseung whether it was your weight on his legs or Yunjin and Keeho beating you guys, and you just wanted this to be over with.
You looked down at Heeseung. His eyes were closed and he was sweating, obviously conflicted with whatever was on his mind. Letting out a small sigh, you let go of his hands which woke him back up. You knew what this would’ve done, and you lost your balance. Heeseung quickly grabbed your shoulders and dropped you down lightly on him.
“And Keeho and Yunjin win!!” Mrs. Choi shouted. Everyone went to the two to congratulate them, but you and Heeseung stayed in this position for just a moment longer. The tension was very obvious between you two, and it made your heart skip a beat. Your body was touching his body. Close proximity. Faces nearly inches apart.
“Yn!” Jiung shouted, making you get off of Heeseung. “Why did you let go!”
You quickly stood up and walked over to your friend, leaving behind Heeseung who was watching you leave with a frown.
“My hands were getting sweaty,” you lied, walking further and further away from the boy.
Heeseung was disappointed in himself. He could’ve held you up longer, but you let go of him. You let go and he didn’t know why. Yes both of your hands were getting sweaty, but that was no excuse. It didn’t help with the fact that you left him behind so quickly. Heeseung didn’t know what to think.
“That was so freaking awkward,” you huffed out as you and Jiung sat on the bleachers.
“Why? Wasn’t it exciting!” He teased you by shoving your arm, but you just rolled your eyes playfully in response.
“He asked me to be his partner and then starts staring at Yunjin with these eyes… like… like he still likes her or something.” You dropped your head down. Even though you tried to play it off, you couldn’t deny being upset. “I think I was overthinking Heeseung’s actions towards me.”
“I don’t think you’re overthinking.” Jiung faced you, suddenly feeling the seriousness of the atmosphere. “What guy would fight some rando if he didn’t like you?”
“Well I would hope that my friends would,” you exaggerated, clearly indicating that Keeho or Jiung or even Taeyang should’ve done something about it. “But since no one was defending me then it’s the only right thing to do as a friend.”
“And what about his friends oddly suspicious tweets in response to whatever’s on his private?”
“I don’t know! That’s none of my business and I don’t want to get into that. Besides, it was all probably about Yunjin.”
Jiung sighed. “What if you just told him how you felt?”
“And get humiliated? Yeah, no thanks.”
“You never know! He could like you back, you know…”
“And what I know is that he doesn’t like me like that. He was staring at Yunjin with these longing eyes and if you saw it then you’d agree with me.”
“Well they’re not dating anymore… Maybe you could change his mind?”
“Maybe… or maybe I’ll just ignore it. I don’t have time for a boyfriend right now anyways.”
Every time you decided that you wanted to get over your feelings for Heeseung, he decided to do something to change it without knowing. For instance, after the race, he came up to you asking to be partners and says things that makes your heart beat too fast. And now he was approaching you again as you were making your way back to class.
You were in the process of taking out your pigtails, and he came up from behind you. He tapped your shoulder to get your attention as you walked, and you greeted him with a smile.
“Why’d you take them out?” He asked curiously, watching you shove the rubber bands in your pocket and fluffing out your hair.
“I look like a kid.”
“I thought they were cute.”
There he goes again saying things so shamelessly. Does he even know how this is affecting you?
“Thanks, but no thanks,” you laughed awkwardly.
Heeseung looked down at you, admiring you during this time because he wouldn’t be able to do it any other time. He liked how much you guys were able to hang out today, although he did wish you didn’t run away every time after you exchanged a few words.
“Do you want to grab something to eat at the food court?” He asked after hesitating for a bit. There were some classes hosting cafes and food joints for the break between sports, and this was a good time for him to ask.
Heeseung told himself that if you said no to this, then he’d give up and assume you’re just not interested in him.
But luckily for him… “Yeah,” you said surprisingly which made his chest fall from relief. “Let me just go get my jacket from class first.”
“No need,” he said quickly, taking this opportunity to be a gentleman. Heeseung took off his jacket and held it out for you to put your arms through. You gladly accepted and laughed a little at the size comparison. “Now you’ll be warmer.”
“Actually— all the extra space allows for more air to flow through which means more of the cold air is passing through. So really I—“
“Just shush,” he said teasingly with a smile, placing a finger on your lips to quiet you. Your cheeks instantly blushed and you fell silent, nodding at what he said and walking with him to the food court.
You and Heeseung grabbed grilled cheese sandwiches and sat at the cafe in class 3 to enjoy your meal. It was too cold outside to eat, and Heeseung knew better and led you to Jake’s class who was hosting the cafe.
Obviously since this was Jake’s class, he as well as all his friends were in there. They all stood behind the counter watching you and Heeseung converse and eat, laughing about who knows what.
“They got close pretty fast,” Jay pointed out.
“Right. Considering they’re not even in the same class,” said Sunghoon.
Jake only rolled his eyes. He couldn’t believe Heeseung was here right now eating lunch with you and letting you wear his jacket. He could’ve sworn that Heeseung said he didn’t have any feelings for you whatsoever, so what the hell was he doing here being all flirty with you?
“It’s my turn to rotate,” Jake suddenly said, taking off the apron and grabbing his track jacket.
“Already?” Jay questioned. “Good luck in the race!”
“Yeah, thanks.” Jake’s attitude was super dismissive and his friends noticed.
“Hey, Jake!” You exclaimed, getting his attention before he got to leave. “Where you going?”
“It’s my turn to run in the race,” he said dryly.
“Aw… Good luck! I’m rooting for you!”
Jake couldn’t help but smile at how cute you looked, shooting him a thumbs up and letting him leave for his race. Heeseung looked over at Jake, suddenly feeling uneasy and guilty for being here with you. He honestly didn’t know what he was doing. He was certain that he liked you before Jake, so there was no harm in doing this right?
For the rest of sports day, you and Heeseung hung out together. It got less awkward between the two of you, and you started to gain confidence again. You even forgot about the whole situation during yoga between Yunjin and Heeseung; that’s how much fun he was making you have.

LOVE FOOL — CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

After your friends filled you in on what happened after you left the dance, you were shocked in silence. Heeseung… defended you? But not Riki?! You were worrying about the wrong thing here. You were more upset that Riki didn’t defend you than you were happy that Heeseung did it instead. But you had to keep reminding yourself that Riki is way younger than all of you and would literally get body slammed if he tried anything.
“This is so embarrassing,” you huffed out, throwing your head down on the table. “Now everyone’s gonna think I’m a whore, and they’re gonna call me a homie hopper. This is just— People don’t even know that Heeseung and I are friends! Do you see where I’m coming from?”
All your friends nodded (except for Minjeong who wasn’t there), letting you bask in the information.
“I’m just gonna pretend like I don’t know,” you concluded. “Oblivion is the best way to go.”
“Well, what about Jake?” Jiung asked.
“What about him.”
“It seems like he likes you… And it also seems like Heeseung likes you after what he did…”
“He was just being a good friend, Jiung. Other people might view it as something else, but we’re just friends. He doesn’t like me.”
“Why do you keep thinking that?” Taeyang asked, frustrated at your insistent belief that Heeseung will never like you.
“Because it’s true,” you answered. “If he liked me he would’ve done something by now… But he hasn’t. And he let Jake be my date to the dance, meaning that he didn’t want to take me.”
“Maybe he was just scared,” Yizhuo suggested. The look on your face made her continue. “I mean… He knows that Jake likes you. What if Jake got to confess before he did so Heeseung never got to make a move. And maybe he’s ignoring you at school because he doesn’t want to like you knowing that Jake likes you.”
You stared blankly at your friend. “Don’t make me delusional now.”
“I’m serious!”
“Heeseung doesn’t like me!” You exclaimed, so sure of yourself. “Just watch.”
“Are you going to ask him?” Keeho questioned, not believing your bluff.
“Soon— I will soon.”
“Soon as in never,” Jiung remarked, making Keeho laugh with him.
“Well I don’t need to ask him anything when I already know the answer,” you said. “Why should I humiliate myself by asking?” Silence fell upon the table. “Exactly.”
“It’s a 50:50 chance, Yn,” Yizhuo said. “He could like you, or he couldn’t. It’s 50:50.”
You sighed. “And I need it to be 100:0 chance of him liking me if I’m going to be confronting him about anything.”
“You need to be more bold,” Keeho then said, sipping on his soup after.
“Yeah, no. I’m fine with how my love life is at the moment, thanks.”
“Your loss,” said Jiung. “You could literally have a boyfriend right now.”
Keeho gasp. “Speaking of which! Did you know Theo’s girlfriend dumped him?”
“What?!” It was your turn to gasp this time. You turned to Taeyang who looked embarrassed.
“We didn’t really break up,” said Taeyang, trying to clear up the misunderstanding. Everyone looked at him confused. “We just had an argument and that was it.”
“So that’s why she was dancing all over some other guy at the dance after?” Yizhuo questioned. “Theo, you’re such an idiot.”
“I’m sorry, what happened now?” You were still shocked at the information. How could Taeyang still consider her as his girlfriend if she was dancing with another guy?
“Well, we didn’t really talk about it,” Taeyang went on.
“So dump her ass before she does it to you!” Yizhuo exclaimed, genuinely trying to help out her friend. “Don’t let her win!”
“But that’s mean!”
“WHO CARES!” You all shouted in unison.
“What did you guys even fight about anyway?” You asked, wanting to know more details.
“We were just talking about you and Jake and she got all mad for no reason,” Taeyang answered. “I don’t know what her issue with you is…”
“Oh I could name a few,” Keeho muttered just loud enough for everyone to hear.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Don’t play dumb now, Theo,” Jiung spoke now. “Literally everyone thinks you two are dating.”
“What! How?!”
The three of your friends rolled their eyes at Taeyang’s idiocy. Even you knew what they were talking about. It wasn’t a secret that you and Taeyang were affectionate towards each other; he probably thought it was normal and didn’t assume anything about it.
Your friends continued to bicker about nonsense for the rest of lunch while you kept eyeing Heeseung’s table. It was still hard for you to believe that he went out of his way to defend you, but you didn’t even know why he needed to do it.
As you were staring at him, he looked up to meet your eyes; you immediately looked away, pretending you weren’t looking at him and putting your attention down onto your plate of food. He chuckled at the action, finding it adorable how you looked away so quickly.

It didn’t take long for the school gym to fill up with students the day before Halloween (the staff didn’t want to work on Halloween night). The gym was decorated by student council after school with cobb webs and anything spooky like to make it look semi decent. Luckily Riki’s parents had a few fog machines that they lent us for the night so the place wasn’t too boring.
Left and right were students dressed in their costumes and teachers making sure that these costumes were school appropriate. It was surprising that people were actually attending the dance since teenagers these days hate those kinds of things, but stuco was grateful nonetheless.
Entering the gym with Jake, you quickly found the table where all your friends were sitting at. And there at the table was Minjeong… and Heeseung sitting next to her. They were dressed as Shaggy and Velma; an obvious couples costume.
Everyone except for those two and Taeyang’s girlfriend noticed your expression. Keeho gave an apologetic look but you shook it off.
“Where’s the rest of your friends?” You asked to Jake, taking Keeho’s drink and swallowing it all. He gave an offended look at you, but he wasn’t planning on commenting on it when he already knew you were in a mood.
“I’m not sure,” Jake responded. “Im sure they’re—”
“Let’s go hang out with them.”
Jake gave you wide eyes. He didn’t have a problem hanging out with your friends, and since Heeseung was here it all worked out anyway. But he saw the look in your eyes and could tell you wanted to leave.
“Wait, dance with me first!” Yizhuo exclaimed, snatching your arm and stealing you away from your date.
While you got dragged to the dance floor, you apologized to Jake and continued to follow your friend. Yizhuo did want to dance with you, but she was also here to interrogate you.
“You don’t want to sit with us?” She asked with a smile on her face to avoid your friends asking questions. She knew at least some of them were staring.
“I do!” You exclaimed in defense. “I just don’t want to be around Heeseung or Theo.”
“Theo? Why Theo?”
“It’s just super awkward. I don’t even know how it got like that.”
Yizhuo furrowed her brows as she grabbed your hands to dance closer together. “Did you like him? At least at some point in your life?”
“Yiz, I don’t want to talk about this right now. I’m supposed to have fun. Not talk about boys.”
“You’re right,” she sighed, a smile coming onto her face. “Besides, Jake is hot and you look good with him!”
You couldn’t stop the blush from creeping up on your face. “It’s not like that between us.”
“But it should be! He’s totally into you!” Yizhuo leaned closer. “Don’t look now, but he hasn’t taken his eyes off you since I dragged you away.”
You almost turned your head but fought against it. Jake couldn’t like you; it would ruin everything. If he liked you, it would mean that you were off limits to all his friends. And you were not trying to look like a homie hopper!
“Just give him a chance,” she whispered in your ear.
After you and Yizhuo finished dancing to a few songs, you guys went back to her table to get a drink. You couldn’t approach Jake so easily now after talking to your friend about it. You just couldn’t bring yourself to feel any romantic attraction towards him.
“Do you want to dance?” You heard Minjeong ask. It made you look up, meeting eyes with Heeseung before he quickly looked away.
“No,” he answered. “I don’t think I’ll be dancing tonight.”
“Then why did you come,” you then asked, annoyed. He didn’t want to come in the first place so why was he here now? His existence was bothering you at this point.
Heeseung looked up, shocked at what you said and falling speechless. You rolled your eyes, taking Jake’s hand and pulling him away from the rest of them. Keeho and Jiung couldn’t stop themselves from laughing, which earned them a glare from Heeseung. He didn’t know why you were suddenly acting so cold towards him. Meanwhile, Taeyang was side eyeing him, knowing that he definitely upset you after calling her dance boring.
Dancing with Jake definitely felt foreign to you, but it felt good. He was refreshing to be around, and he also smelled really good so you couldn’t stay away from him. He also couldn’t stay away from you; his hands couldn’t leave your body whether it was your waist or your arm, he just had to be touching you.
“Hands to yourself, you two!” A deep voice shouted, and Jake immediately took his hands off you. “Got you!” The obnoxious laugh of Park Sunghoon took you by surprise. You’ve never talked to him ever, so it made you a bit nervous to be meeting the rest of Jake’s friends finally.
“Yn,” he greeted. “Looking lovely as always.” Sunghoon was very prince like. You didn’t know if he was always this polite or if he was just trying to be nice to you since you were here with Jake.
“Thank you,” you answered.
“Stop trying to flirt,” Jay then said. “He’s just trying to woo you. Ignore him.”
You nodded then greeted Jay. They took you and Jake to their table where Sunoo, Riki, and Jungwon also were. It was actually very comfortable sitting with them; Sunghoon and Jay weren’t weird and they were fun to talk to. Definitely not ideal for you since you’d rather be with your own friends, but you were glad to be with familiar faces.
Sunoo and Sunghoon couldn’t stop bickering and it made you laugh a lot. It was mostly Sunghoon teasing Sunoo, but it was amusing to watch Sunoo get annoyed so easily. Jungwon and Jay were also very close to each other it seemed. They were more calm compared to Sunghoon and Sunoo, and the contrast was odd.
“So~” Riki slid closer to you with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “You and Jake, huh?” He gave you the wiggly eyebrows and you shoved him lightly.
“You do realize he’s right next to me right?” You asked. Jake was quite literally pressed against your side and could definitely hear Riki clearly.
“Yeah, I know.” His grin turned up more. “I’m purposely doing it.”
“Leave her alone, Riki,” Jake sighed, already knowing what he was up to.
Laughing awkwardly, you looked away from Riki and stood before announcing that you needed to use the restroom. Anything Riki had to say was definitely up to no good and you wanted to avoid his questions as much as possible. He always found a way to twist things which freaked you out because how did he know so much?
You left the gym to “find the restroom” but really you just needed a quiet place to think for a moment. There wasn’t much to think about except the fact that you were here with Jake instead of Taeyang or even Heeseung for that matter. Jake just came out of no where and now you were stuck.
The quiet was peaceful. It was a little cold outside too especially with the wind. So now you were left alone with your thoughts and the sound of the wind pushing leaves and shaking the trees.
Footsteps sounded near you, making you look up from the floor and up to the noise. It was the last person you wanted to see. Lee Heeseung. There was no way he was here to see you. It was definitely just a coincidence and he probably came outside to find the restrooms.
“Enjoying your night?” He ask, taking a seat next to you on the planter box that you were sitting at. You just stared at him in disbelief as he stared straight ahead. Why was he deciding to talk to you now of all places and why all of a sudden?
“I am,” you answered, looking away from him. “I didn’t know you and Minjeong were close.”
“We’re not.” You didn’t look at him even though you could see him staring at you from the corner of your eye.
“That’s a little harsh considering you’re here with her tonight.” You tried you best to calm down, but the shakiness in your voice gave away your nervousness.
Heeseung let out a deep sigh. “She asked me to come with her and it would’ve been rude to say no since we sit next to each other in class.”
You nodded, not needing to say anything else. He didn’t owe you an explanation and you didn’t want one from him. It’s not like you guys were anything anyways.
“It got really awkward at the table when you left,” he said sudddenly. “Theo’s date stormed off after a while. He must’ve said something to upset her.”
Again, you nodded.
“Then Yizhuo got asked to dance by someone in her year. Jiung and Keeho stayed back after Minjeong went to the restroom, and now I’m here to avoid them asking me any questions.”
You couldn’t help but let out a laugh. “Me too. I had to leave before Riki starting asking me things he didn’t need an answer to.”
Heeseung laughed with you. “Yeah, that kid is pretty mischievous.”
The two of you went silent for a moment. The tension was there and it felt very awkward. You wanted to leave, but you didn’t know if Heeseung still wanted to talk. Maybe he wanted to leave too. So you stood up.
“I should get back first,” you announced. “Jake’s probably wondering where I am and Minjeong will be thinking the same thing.”
Heeseung pursed his lips and frowned; something you noticed but wished you didn’t see. What did that mean? All you could do was now overthink it. What if Heeseung liked you? No… He couldn’t… right?
“Okay,” he sighed. “See you later.”
You nodded before turning around quickly and making your way back to the gym. When you found your way back to your table, Jake wasn’t there.
“Where’s Jake?” You asked the boys.
“He went looking for you,” said Jungwon, sipping on his drink.
“Yeah, you were gone for quite a while,” Riki then said. “It was almost as if you were… with someone else?”
“Oh, be quiet Riki,” you playfully scoffed. “Shouldn’t you be dancing right now, showing off how talented you are?”
“I’m resting right now, I’ll have you know!”
“Sure you are.”
“Do you want to have a dance battle, Yn?”
“You’ll catch me dead before I freestyle.”
Riki suddenly became serious. “What’s wrong with freestyling?”
“I physically cannot watch it. Unless you’re a really good dancer, it’s cringe. And I can’t dance anyway so I’d definitely not free style.”
“Are you making fun of my freestyle,” Riki fake pouted.
“Well are you a really good dancer like you claim to be?”
“Yes!” He slammed a fist on the table. “I’m awesome! I dance all day everyday! My parents own a dance studio!”
You laughed at how adorable he looked trying to convince you badly. “Okay, I believe you.” You held in the rest of your laughter and he leaned back in his seat.
Before Riki could come back with another remark, Jake came back and sat down next to you. You could feel the uneasiness coming from him and felt as if you did something wrong.
“Wanna dance?” You asked him, but he shrugged. “Oh… Are you alright?”
“Yeah I’m fine,” he answered dryly. “Just feeling a little sick.”
You were quick to make a move, placing the back of you hand on his forehead to feel him. He felt normal, but you figured he was just tired and overwhelmed from all the lights.
“Do you want to leave?” You asked. “I’ll take you home.” You suddenly had the urge to take care of him. The two of you never acted affectionate towards each other, but you felt the need to take control. Maybe it was because he was younger than you; all you knew was that you wanted to take Jake home and make sure he was feeling okay.
“It’s okay, I don’t want to ruin your—”
“I wanna go home,” you interrupted. “Come on.”
The two of you said your goodbyes to his friends and made your way to the table with yours, saying goodbye to them as well. Heeseung stared a little too long after you guys left the table, and Minjeong rolled her eyes after noticing.
“Wanna get out of here?” She asked him, hoping he’d take her home.
“You can leave if you want,” Heeseung said nonchalantly, not even realizing how rude that sounded. “I need to find my friends.”
“I’m your date, though!”
“I can’t hang out with my friends for a little bit?”
Keeho and Jiung gave each other a look, trying hard to fight back a laugh at their friend. Taeyang even found the moment a bit funny, but he of all people shouldn’t be laughing right now after he and his girlfriend got into an argument earlier.
Heeseung left the table and Minjeong scoffed, annoyed and regretting asking him to come to the dance with her. She looked over at the rest of her friends and rolled her eyes at them too since they were obviously entertained with her basically getting dumped.
“And for the first time it’s Yn who is getting action,” Keeho laughed which made Jiung and Taeyang laugh with him.
“Why the hell are you laughing, Taeyang!” Minjeong exclaimed. “Your girlfriend is dancing with another man as we speak.”
“What!” The boy shouted, jumping up from his seat and leaving to find her.
“Assholes.” Minjeong scoffed again and left the dance.
Keeho sipped on his drink. “She always gets so worked up when we tease her.”
“She’s just sensitive,” Jiung said before Yizhuo came stumbling to their table.
“Where’s Yn?” She asked. “There’s a circle forming around Heeseung and some girl right now!”
“She left just a while ago,” said Jiung. “And what do you mean?”
“Is he getting in a fight!” Keeho exclaimed, suddenly up at his feet. “Show me the way.”
The three left to find the crowd around Heeseung, pushing past people to get to the front.
Meanwhile, you were walking Jake home and it was dead silent between the two of you. You weren’t sure if you should say something or just keep this silence, but you were having a nice night with Jake and he was suddenly so gloomy.
“Did you have fun?” You asked, looking up at him and awaiting a response, but he only nodded. “Doesn’t seem like it. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he said. You knew better than to believe him.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“No.”
“It feels like I did.”
“You did nothing wrong.”
“Just tell me what’s wrong.”
“Nothing is wrong. I want to go home, so just leave me alone.”
You paused for a second, feeling hurt at the rejection. He didn’t want to be around you, and now you knew you did something wrong. Jake continued to walk; he noticed you stopped, but he didn’t care.
“Sorry for ruining your night,” you mumbled before turning the opposite direction and walking away.
You thought Jake wouldn’t hear you, but he did. He heard you clearly even if you were mumbling. Because it was quiet outside, it was very much audible. But he continued to walk; he kept going but guilt was eating him alive. It was cold and dark outside, and you left his side. Now he was stressed out over something bad happening to you. You were defenseless at the moment, and even if you weren’t, you didn’t have one strong muscle in your body if something bad were to happen.
Turning around, Jake went to look for you. He wasn’t sure which way you went, but he would look all night if he had to. He could’ve easily called you; however, he knew you wouldn’t have picked up. Not after how he treated you tonight.
“Are you guys leaving yet?” He heard your voice around the corner, stopping so you wouldn’t hear him getting closer. “No, Jake went home by himself and I forgot my house keys.” Why didn’t you just call Jake? He would’ve let you stay if he knew you couldn’t go home tonight. “Oh… yeah. That’s fine. I’ll just meet you guys there.”
You hung up the phone, and looked around your surroundings. It was scary being out at night by yourself, especially when it was dark outside and freezing cold. However, you quickly stood up and started speed walking towards Taeyang’s house. Your friends were all going to spend the night there, so you decided to join them since your parents would be out late for work and you couldn’t get inside without your keys.
Jake followed you up until you met up with your friends halfway. He felt relieved that you were with people you trust, and it was a group so nothing could’ve gone wrong. When he felt sure enough that you’d be okay, he turned around and headed back to his house. He was definitely going to apologize to you; even if it bruised his ego a lot, he owed you one.

LOVE FOOL — CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 0.5k (530)
+ smau at the end
————————————————————————
Today is Heeseung’s birthday. You know because it was one of the first things you asked him when you two started texting and it was hard to forget since you liked him so much. It was nerve wracking to wish him a happy birthday in person. It should’ve been no big deal but everything about him made you nervous and just being in his presence made you feel faint.
Throughout class you debated on when you should tell Heeseung or if you should just text him instead. But boys like it when you talk to them in person; then again, he pretends that you don’t even exist. So why should you be the first to talk to him when he won’t even look your direction?!
Finally it was break time, and it took everything in you to get out of your seat and to Heeseung’s class. Taeyang saw your internal panic and was going to stop you, but he decided against it after what happened the other day.
Making your way through the halls, you walked past Heeseung’s class twice because you physically could not bring yourself to walk in. You probably looked like an idiot walking back and forth, but you just couldn’t do it.
“What the hell are you doing,” someone asked behind you, making you yelp and jump. It was Jiung.
“You seriously need to stop scaring me like this,” you sighed, resting your hand over your heart to calm it down.
“So, what are you doing here?”
“I can’t just come see my dear friend Jiung?!” You awkwardly laughed, pinching his cheek and grinning stupidly. Jiung only gave you a disbelieving look. “Okay, fine. It’s Heeseung’s birthday,” you said at a whisper.
“It is?” Jiung questioned. “I’ll go get him then—”
“No! No— I was just… I already told him!”
“Did you now?” Jiung crossed his arms and smirked knowing that you did not muster up the courage to actually talk to Heeseung. “I guess I should go wish him a happy birthday.”
Before you could say anything, Jiung was walking into his classroom and making his way towards Heeseung. You peaked in through the window to see where he was; you didn’t actually see Heeseung till now because of how scared you were, but now you wished you didn’t come over here. He was talking with Minjeong until Jiung approached them.
“Happy birthday,” he wished, fist bumping Heeseung before going back to his desk.
“How’d you know it was my birthday?” Heeseung then asked. No one except for his friends and you knew his birthday.
Jiung began pointing in the direction where you were, making you crouch down out of sight. “Oh…” After enough teasing, Jiung decided to drop it. “Just heard around.”
“Oh… Well thank you.” Heeseung stood up from his seat and started walking out of the class, but you were already making a run for it. You honestly couldn’t have made it anymore obvious since Heeseung was laughing to himself as he saw you sprint away. He wanted to talk to you honestly; he just couldn’t bring himself to do it especially now after Jake semi-confessed how he felt about you.

LOVE FOOL — CHAPTER THIRTEEEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 1.8k (1873)
————————————————————————
“He WHAT?” Keeho shouted, making you guys and everyone around the area jump.
You, Keeho, Yizhuo, and Jiung were all sitting in the outside dining area eating lunch after shopping for a while. Yizhuo invited the whole group, but Minjeong never responded and Taeyang said he was busy with his girlfriend (which upset you yet again). Sitting down eating was always when you all would start to gossip, and somehow you all got on the topic of Heeseung yet again.
“He called it boring,” you clarified.
“Yes, I heard. I’m just in shock at his RUDENESS!” Keeho shouted again.
“I told him not to come if he was only planning on going because he felt obligated.”
“As you should,” Yizhuo said before sipping on her lemonade. “He’s such a jerk. I don’t know why you still like him.”
“Yeah, why do you even like him still?” Jiung then asked.
You shrugged. “I don’t know. I thought maybe since now that we’re friends then something could happen.”
Your friends all went silent. Even they knew there was no hope for you.
“I should stop though,” you continued. “He told me we could say hi to each other at school but he pretends like I don’t even exits. Or maybe he just doesn’t see him.”
“Oh, he definitely sees you,” Jiung said annoyed.
“Maybe he’s just shy?”
“Shy my ASS!” Keeho exclaimed. “He’s just an asshole. Stop talking to him.”
“Doesn’t he always leave you on read anyways?” Yizhuo asked. “I’m sorry for mentioning it, but I just can’t go on to watch you like him when he treats you horribly.”
“He did just get out of a relationship,” you countered, not being able to look at your friends.
“Why are you defending him!” Yizhuo exclaimed. “It doesn’t give him any right to treat you like that!”
“I know but—“ Your phone buzzing cut you off mid sentence.
Pulling out your phone, you saw Jake’s name on the screen. All your friends asked in unison to put him on speaker phone which made you slightly nervous. Jake never called you. He always texted. And even when he texted you it was always for school; he preferred private conversations in person.
“Hello?” You spoke into the phone, immediately putting it on mute after.
“Yn? Are you alone right now?” He asked.
You gave a look to your friends and they all nodded.
You put the phone off mute. “Yes I am. Did you need something?”
“Yes. I was wondering if you’d want to go to the dance with me.”
All your friends starting freaking out, gasping and squealing. If it wasn’t for the mute button, you would’ve immediately hung up in embarrassment.
What do I say? You mouthed to your friends. They all said yes and gave you the thumbs up, but you didn’t really like Jake in that way.
“Can I get back to you, tomorrow?” You asked, and your friends gave you a dumbfounded look. “I have to make sure Keeho is okay with it since he was technically my date.”
“Oh— okay, yeah.. Yeah, that’s fine.” Jake sounded a little discouraged now.
“I would like to go with you,” you said, unsure of yourself. “I just don’t want Keeho to get mad at me for saying yes without asking him.”
“Yeah I get it. I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
“See you tomorrow…”
Jake hung up the phone and you were met with glaring eyes.
“Am I okay with it? OBVIOUSLY IM OKAY WITH IT YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO ASK!” Keeho started shouting again. “You idiot, yn. Why didn’t you just say yes!”
“I don’t know… He’s younger than me.”
“By one year!” Yizhuo started to exclaim next.
You sighed deeply, confused and conflicted on what to tell Jake. You didn’t want to go with him because it felt wrong when you liked his best friend.
“So what are you going tell him?” Jiung asked.
“I’m going to say no,” you answered. “Keeho, you need to play along with it and say that you absolutely refused to let me go with anyone except you, okay?”
“You want me to lie for you!” He exclaimed.
“Yes?!”
“Fine. But only because I know you don’t like Jake like that.”
“Thank you.” You sighed in relief and Yizhuo was quick to change the topic after seeing how awkward you got.
Jake asking you to the dance conflicted with all of your current feelings and life decisions. Well, life decisions may be a little dramatized, but it still affected your daily life! You were supposed to like Heeseung and Heeseung was supposed to like you. Not Jake. Jake liking you only ruined your chances of ever being with Heeseung because of bro code! Or maybe he was only asking you to go as friends and you completely misinterpreted it. Either way, you were stressed.
The following day at school, you had made up your decision. You had to reject Jake. You liked Heeseung too much to go out with his friend. And yes, you and Heeseung almost never talk at school and mainly text each other, but your little heart still has some hope left for the two of you.
On you way to the third year floor, you were practicing what to tell Jake. You were a nervous wreck because of this, but it was better to reject him in person instead of sending him a lame text.
You stopped mumbling your script when you saw Heeseung walking up the stairs from the third year floor. You smiled at the sight of him and he looked up, smiling. Your heart was pounding super fast and you felt like it was going to burst. There was no way Heeseung was actually acknowledging you, you thought. Your hand went up to wave at him until he said, “Hey, Sunghoon!” And greeted the boy who was walking a little ways behind you. Out of embarrassment, your hand quickly went to brush your hair out of your face, trying to play off that you were trying to wave at Heeseung.
How could he just pretend you weren’t there? He saw you didn’t he? He had to!
It angered you more than it should’ve. Heeseung said himself that you guys could say hi to each other in the halls, but now he was purposely ignoring you and making it plainly obvious. Freaking jerk.
You quickend your pace down the stairs to the floor and peaked in every room to see if you could spot Jake. At the 3rd classroom you came by, you saw Jake sitting down talking to some of his class friends— none of which you recognized.
“Hey, can we talk?” You asked once you approached him. All his friends gave each other stupid smirks and were giggling at Jake.
“Y-yeah…” He stuttered, getting up from his desk and following you outside. You two began to walk through the corridor so you guys could be alone.
Jake couldn’t help but fiddle with his fingers as you two walked. He was never this nervous around you or anyone for that matter. So why was it only now that he was freaking out? It’s not like he had a huge crush on you are anything. Maybe it was because he had a feeling you were going to reject him. He had an idea that you liked Heeseung based on your tweets; it was pretty obvious to him.
“I’ll go with you,” you said, making his eyes go wide and come to a stop.
“What.”
“What do you mean, what? You’re the one who asked me.” You were now facing him, looking up to meet his eyes.
“Oh— oh! Right, I—”
“Were you just messing with me, Jake. Cause I swear to god if you were, I will—“
“No! I wasn’t messing with you! I was just… shocked… that you said yes.”
Your eyes widened, and then you smiled. “Well, I was going to reject you. You need to be humbled sometimes you know.” You laughed, and Jake knew that you were just teasing him. “However, you are cute, and I can tolerate you more than most people. So I’ll go with you.”
The boy couldn’t help but grin widely. “Awesome!”
“Awesome? Don’t start sounding like a nerd now, Jake.”
“Right— super rad!” He said stupidly, making you roll your eyes.
“Just text me sometime this week so we can look for a costume together.” You shoved his shoulder and he nodded.
“See you around!” His voice rose several octaves, and you laughed to yourself. You’ve never seen him act like this before.
After you left the third year floor, you were immediately questioning your decisions. You were supposed to reject Jake, so why were you saying yes! Was it because of the anger Heeseung made you feel? Or was it because you couldn’t resist Jake’s weird but adorable charm when you approached him. Either way, you didn’t know how you’d tell your friends since you made it clear that you were going to reject him.
When you got to your class, you sat at your desk and rested your head on the desk, contemplating your life. You almost fell into a sleep until someone sat beside you. You figured it was just your desk mate, so you didn’t look up to see who it was. But then they tapped on your shoulder and you turned your head to see who it was with your head still laying on the desk.
“You okay?” Taeyang’s sweet voice sent a shiver down your spine. You haven’t talked to him in over a week and it felt like you were losing him. Frankly, you didn’t want to talk to him because every time you did, you felt choked up and unable to talk.
“I’m fine,” you answered, turning your head back into your arms on the desk so you didn’t have to look at him.
His hand rubbed your back, making you flinch and jolt up.
“I feel like I haven’t talked to you in forever,” he laughed, after you practically jumped out of your seat.
“Yeah… same here.”
Taeyang started to frown. He knew something was off and he could tell it was because of him. He wasn’t exactly sure what he did, but he could tell it was making you uncomfortable. You two used to never be like this. Usually you’d guys would be all over each other, being touchy and laughing with each other. But now you two seemed distant. And he hated that.
“Did you and Keeho find a costume yet?” He asked, trying to break the awkwardness.
You still couldn’t look at him. “We’re not going together anymore.”
“No?”
You shook your head. “Im going with Jake. He asked me yesterday.”
Taeyang’s eyes widened with shock, then he frowned in slight disappointment. “Oh… I wasn’t expecting that.”
“Yeah, well a lot of unexpected things have been happening recently.”
Furrowing his brows, Taeyang wanted to ask what you meant by that. Did he really do something to upset you? But he couldn’t ask because the bell rang and your desk mate was waiting for him to move. Now he was left feeling just as confused as you were about everything.

LOVE FOOL — CHAPTER TEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 0.8k (882)
————————————————————————
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over the past few days you’ve been trying to ignore your friends constantly talking about you and Heeseung or you and Taeyang. Neither of them liked you (so you thought) and it was starting to get annoying. That and the fact that Minjeong kept trying to get closer to Heeseung was not helping your poor heart.
Since you didn’t have a class with Heeseung, Keeho kept you in the loop about what was going on his class. He told you how they finalized their seats for the first couple of months and how Minjeong and Heeseung were seated together. He also told you how Jiung begged Minjeong to switch seats so he could sit next to Heeseung instead, but she refused.
It honestly made you a bit uncomfortable how Minjeong was acting towards Heeseung. Of course, her feelings were out of your control and if she liked him there was nothing that you could do about it. After all, it was all one sided since he didn’t even know you liked him.
Your class wasn’t doing so hot either. Your only friend in that class was Taeyang, but now that he and that girl that asked him out have been a thing, you’ve been alone during class. During breaks you’d go out to visit the classroom where the rest of your friends were, or you’d sit at your desk and study.
There was one particular day where Taeyang and his new girlfriend (was it confirmed yet?) were getting all touchy and cute at the front of the room and you couldn’t sit and watch. It made your chest tighten for whatever reason that you couldn’t explain, but you had to leave class before you cried.
Walking past Keeho’s class, you peeked your head in through the window to see if your friends were in there. Keeho and Jiung weren’t there, but Minjeong was. And she was talking and laughing with Heeseung.
Great. Something else added onto your bad day.
“BOO!” Someone shouted, grabbing onto your shoulders from behind. You jumped up and yelped. When you turned around, you saw Jiung and Keeho laughing in your face. It was obvious who did it.
“Jiung!” You exclaimed, punching his shoulder. “I’m seriously gonna get you kicked off stuco! Don’t test me!”
Jiung continued to laugh. “Sure you will, yn.” He patted the top of your head and headed back into class.
“What are you doing here?” Keeho asked, not entering class yet. “Staring longingly at Heeseung and hoping he’ll break up with Yunjin~~” He batted his eyelashes close in your face till you pushed him away.
“Theo and his girlfriend are being gross and I came to see if you guys were here. But now that I’ve seen you guys, I’m going back!” You started to turn around and walk in the opposite direction till someone else bumped into you. “Sorry—“ You looked up, meeting eyes with Heeseung who was coming out of the other door of the class.
“Hey—“ He started to say before you ran away. Heeseung looked at Keeho with questioning eyes, but only shrugged with a cheeky smile and walked into class.
The whole rest of the day you couldn’t stop thinking about how you bumped into Heeseung. It wasn’t even anything big, you were just making it a big deal because he’s Heeseung and you can’t continue to deny your feelings for him.
When school was over, you headed for the back exit like you did everyday. Except this time Taeyang wasn’t walking with you. Instead, you were alone.
“I don’t know what you want from me!” You heard a familiar voice shout, making you stop in your tracks at the second to last step of the stairs. The only thing concealing you from the voice was a bush. “Am I your girlfriend? Do you want me to be your girlfriend? I’m really confused, Heeseung.”
Your eyes widened. You could tell it was Yunjin’s voice from the first thing you heard, but you didn’t expect this conversation to be with Heeseung.
“Do you even have anything to say?” She asked again, her voice desperate and sad.
“I’m sorry, Yunjin,” came Heeseung’s voice. But what did he mean? Were they breaking up? Could you even call it breaking up if they weren’t dating in the first place?
Yunjin scoffed. “You’re a jerk, Heeseung. Don’t talk to me ever again.”
At the sound of footsteps going the opposite direction, you thought it was safe to leave. But just to be sure, you waited for a couple seconds longer. You couldn’t even fully process what had happened. How upset was Yunjin? You wondered if she’d quit stuco because of this.
Before you could even take another step down the stairs, Heeseung appeared from behind the bush. You both made direct eye contact; your eyes widened from shock, but he didn’t even process it until you were running down the stairs and into the staff parking lot.
All you could think about was the fact that Heeseung knew that you witnessed the whole break up. You were embarrassed to say the least. Now you were put in a situation that you didn’t want to be in. But maybe this was a good thing. Maybe this was finally your chance to be with Heeseung.

The first student council meeting with Yunjin went smoother than what everyone was expecting. Through out the whole meeting, your phone kept going off and buzzing; it was happening with Jiung too but he eventually shut off his phone. The group chat was spamming asking what was going on or if it was awkward (mostly Keeho), and you hoped no one noticed the buzzing.
"As class representative, you basically just have to figure out what the school likes and dislikes so we can work around it and create schools day activities based off their likes," you were telling Yunjin while also going over the semester schedule.
"Got it," she said earnestly, pulling out a highlighter and marking the paper. She looked really dedicated, more than anyone here and it intimidated you.
After the meeting finished, everyone dispersed except for you and Jiung who were heading out to lunch together. You were dreading going to the table, already knowing they were going to bombard you with questions. Maybe you should've read the group chat first, but who actually wanted to read the 800 messages from them?
"TELL ME NOW!" Keeho shouted once the two of you reached the table. Yizhuo was at the edge of her seat, anticipating for what you were going to say, and Minjeong was on her phone not paying attention.
"Nothing that you're looking for," you sighed, sitting down next to Taeyang who was eating his lunch.
"Yeah, there's no drama if that's what you're asking," said Jiung.
Keeho groaned in annoyance. "So boring. I should instigate—"
"NO— you shouldn't," you said firmly. Knowing Keeho, he actually would start drama just for the fun of it.
You and Jiung hadn't gotten lunch yet because of your meeting, so you two stood in line staring at the menu for the week. From the corner of your eye, you could see Heeseung's table. He was sitting with Yunjin and his friends, and they were acting lovey dovey per usual.
"Why am I in the mood for pizza," Jiung said, his mouth watering as he stared at the menu.
"The pizza here is so stale," you said in disgust, bringing your attention back to Jiung and the menu.
Jiung looked at you and rolled his eyes playfully. But then his expression went still in shock. You looked at him confused and followed his eyes to where they were looking. It was back at your table.
Keeho was covering his mouth trying not to laugh, Yizhuo was biting down on her lip to stop herself from laughing because of Keeho, and Minjeong still on her phone. But then Taeyang. Taeyang was talking to a girl. Or more like a girl was talking to him. You didn't know her at all nor have you ever seen her, but she was smiling down at him and laughing. What could they be talking about, and why was your chest feeling all weird?
"What. is. going. on." Jiung was still staring in shock.
"You're holding up the line," someone behind you said. You turned around to see Jake smirking at you. Rolling your eyes, you turned around and ordered.
When you guys got back to your table, Taeyang was a blushing mess; his cheeks were pink and his ears red. He couldn't even look at you.
"What happened?" You asked, and Yizhuo and Keeho started bursting into laughter.
"Theo got asked out!" Keeho exclaimed.
Your mouth fell open at what Keeho said, then you looked at Taeyang, smiling. "Did you say yes?"
"I mean..." Yizhuo was half laughing, half talking. "He tried— he was stuttering like crazy and couldn't even mumble out a confident 'yes!'"
"Oh— and Theo got her number!" Keeho exclaimed. He and Yizhuo couldn't stop laughing.
Sitting down, you nodded and ate your food quietly. Taeyang noticed how quiet you were being but didn't want to comment on it; the atmosphere got weird quickly once Keeho and Yizhuo read the room.
"So..." Keeho started out awkwardly. "Do you guys want to do something this weekend?"
"Cant." You said bluntly.
Keeho nodded and pursed his lips, still feeling the awkward tension. "Studying?" You nodded.
Then Jiung started to talk. "Student council is thinking of hosting a Halloween dance. How does that sound to you guys?"
"That sounds like fun!" Yizhuo was ecstatic about the idea, but now you weren't so sure on it.
Obviously you were going to ruin it for everyone; you just decided that you weren't planning on going anymore. You wanted to go with Taeyang, but considering he's probably going to be dating someone soon, it wasn't going to work out in your favor.
