something nobody ever talks about vis a vis "how can psychics on alternia even be oppressed" is that homestuck takes the mutants-as-disabled interpretation of the x-men very literally by having the lowbloods' powers make them explicitly mentally ill. like how is sollux going to lead a mages' revolution he's been having a non stop panic attack since he was born. he needs pills they dont even make on alternia

i think presumably alternian video games are named in the opposite fashion to films where they all have really nondescriptive single syllable names like flarp and sgrub and walp and peung

i loooove how because alternia is a fiction-within-a-fiction it echoes the anxieties of the homestuck characters in the same way science fiction and dystopia echoes our anxieties in the real world. because rose and john and jade and dave are not real people their anxieties are way less about real people problems like class disparity and totalitarian government and way more about stuff like puppets haunting your dreams and clowns overrunning society. so class oppression on alternia kind of takes the back seat to more overtly nightmarish shit like everyone having to go to bed in slime to avoid being spied on by circus gangsters in their sleep. because caliborn is a total literalist boob basically incapable of nuance

karkat representing or being symbolically linked in some way to a caste of trolls who were wiped from existence centuries ago like makes sense as a basic premise and does indeed have some basis in the comic it's the idea that "limebloods were got rid of cus they had the power to magically pacify highbloods" that literally just feels like such a confession blog-tier "if mituna and WV ever met they would have such fun playing candy crush together"-type headcanon. like it's insane that it ever got as much reach as it did
