How refreshing is it to have a love triangle where all three parties are honest about their feelings? WAY TO ROCK AT BEING GROWN UPS, VINCENT, CAT, AND EVAN! 

So okay, the show itself is pretty cheesy - the case of the week thing is kind of lame - but I think it really nails just straight-up emotions. The relationships don’t feel like they’re fraught with unnecessary drama (I’m looking at you, Vampire Diaries - if we measured Elena’s tears by volume, we would have enough water to probably flood the entire planet a couple times over) and for the most part, they actually talk about their feelings!! Either blatantly or with thinly veiled metaphors. But either way, it’s nice to see that, in episode 6, Vincent and Catherine have already made their feelings known for each other, when for some shows, it takes upwards of 4 seasons (again, Vampire Diaries).

I totally ship Vincat like burning, but it’s so hard not to root for Evan, because he’s honestly a pretty stand-up guy from what we’ve seen. He’s charming and funny and treats Cat well, and his persistence in pursuing her is pretty endearing.

And I think the most refreshing thing about this triangle is the lack of drama. Vincent knows about Evan and Evan knows about Vincent and they both just accept it. There was angst that was wrapped up in ONE EPISODE. If I could hug this show, I would, because so many shows are built on angst and drag it out for entire SEASONS.

I wasn’t expecting this show to be anything groundbreaking, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be so refreshing. Some other shows are so heavy handed, emotionally (I’m looking at you, Fringe, but in the best way - if you’re going to go emotional, go big or go home, man and make people weep every single episode) that they’re exhausting to watch (not Fringe, but TVD again, which is tonight’s winner of the Best Bad Example Award), but this show is pretty good at skirting the line between angst and overkill.

Is the show going to win any Emmys? No. But the fact that it’s been able to produce a love triangle that is relatively drama-less, where all three sides are honest about their feelings? That’s nothing less than revolutionary.
