it's time for malice theory. the natural successor to kiril headcanons. (once again featuring what i said to @rexaofwrath).

this is about curing HER in oss.

i imagine it feels like having part of your identity stripped away. it might've worked differently on kiril, with him being pale and all, but HER's been compared to like. another self. so it's got to be very taxing both mentally and physically

kiril couldn't work properly for a while afterwards because even once he'd recovered from the worst of it he was still dealing with the lingering effects (shaking, confusion and so on). i also bet it's a long process it's not done all at once. elluka would have kept coming back to help him recover & make sure it was working

there's a passage in a book i read once where this guy tries healing someone and it's like their sickness is shrinking away from that magic. like the person wants to be healed but the condition doesn't. with that logic it'd be like reaching into the recesses of someone's mind and trying to force their malice out.

I'd also imagine it's slightly different and has varying rates of success based on how the HERs manifests, since it manifests differently in different people (rexa said this bit can you tell /lh)

it has to be voluntary they can't just cure someone's malice to prevent them doing more harm. the healing is often hard on the temple maidens too. that's one of the reasons why it has to be done in steps. it allows for recovery and minimal harm to the maidens.

kiril headcanons time. featuring everything i said to @rexaofwrath. the HER-related theory will come later if anyone's interested in that!!

kiril taught irina how to make music boxes once and she wasn’t super interested, so she either helped him with fixing things or worked on her own projects. elluka also would have helped with the business when she moved in. and imo she’s the type who knows Everyone. though she did know how to do what kiril did because he couldn't work properly for a few months at one point (something something being cured of HER is not actually a pleasant experience)

i like the idea of irina making dolls in her spare time. how else could she make the Doll. she’d carve them or sew them depending on how she felt (maybe she was good with kids and made them as gifts at one point??). there’s a part of kiril’s workshop that’s always been hers no arguments

irina and elluka probably kept the place under control. come back from a few weeks away and he’s barely moved or organised his work because he’s a perfectionist. guy who occasionally forgets to eat and/or sleep when he’s got a deadline. irina complains about it but still organises it all for him.

i do forget how clockwork lullaby album kiril acts but i think being dead worked in his favour. now he doesn’t need to stop working he can’t die again (elluka has many concerns)

considering he gets seth’s memories he’d spend so long figuring out all that new knowledge. kiril get out of your workshop your wife is going to die of anxiety

a few (tentative) ideas about clockwork lullaby kiril because i do what i want

kiril has a clocktower-turned-workshop in the heavenly yard because there’s got to be buildings there. he died and was suddenly very important in terms of the third period so he needs some sort of stable work environment

adding to that and the idea of him neglecting himself due to working all the time may i propose kiril with longer hair (he stops looking like seth! a win for the ghoul children). he doesn’t even notice until elluka tells him to at least tie it up

in terms of his appearance he’s got to be really scarred too. both from when he was pale and from the catastrophe (general thoughts on pale under cut)

has anyone ever considered the possibility of there being different languages within ec??

like we know that lunaca labora is ‘full moon laboratory’ in ancient leviantan. so there must have at least been a leviantan language at some point.

then in cloture allen visits elphegort and can talk to michaela without any sort of language barriers (mind you there is something to be said about allen being born into royalty). and she does recognise him as foreign. maybe it’s his appearance but it could also be because he has an accent.

there are obviously differences between the countries anyway (excluding distinct hair colours etc). i just like the idea of this.

The Evil's Theater graveyard is not, as most think, for intruders.

If it was, then all the gravestones would be blank. The Master of the Graveyard never asks who she's devouring, and the Master of the Court rarely keeps record of her trials.

Yes, the Waiter and Gardener keep track, remembering the names of every hapless victim that comes through the gates, but the Gardener writes them down and the Waiter simply catalogues them in her mind, much like the way she catalogues the name of each person the Daughter of Evil executed.

The graveyard is not for intruders.

It's for the inhabitants.

The oldest graves in the graveyard are engraved with old names, names none of them go by any longer.

Adam and Eve Moonlit's graves are right next to each other, only a short distance from Meta Salmhofer's and her children. Two smaller graves are there as well, the names "Cain" and "Abel" the only thing identifying them. Maria Moonlit is there as well, her grave the most finely decorated in that particular section.

Irina Clockworker's grave is a little further away from the lovers, set distinctly apart from her brother and sister-in-law, as well as her two other victims. Four tiny graves surround hers, one of her aliases carved on each. A little red cat is painted on all these graves, courtesy of one of the twin servants.

Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche's grave is pristine, as is Allen Avadonia's. Their family and friends surround them, all perfectly clean and in good shape. The Waiter never lets the Gardener clean these particular graves, for they are her sins to carry alone.

There's a section in the graveyard that the twins desecrate near-constantly, the names "Mikulia Calaground," "Phantom Thief Platonic," and "Margarita Blankenheim" the only words discernable after so long. Oddly enough, the graves of Lemy Abelard and Rin Chan nearby are always left untouched.

The Gardener cleans the graves of the Miroku family and their murderer every other week, though he leaves the patriarch's grave to rot. The Waiter cleans them afterwards, fixing any spots he may have missed. Noticeably, she too makes less of an effort on Miroku Kai's grave. She tries, however, and that seems to be enough.

The Marlons (and Nyoze Octo, a recent addition) are the newest graves, and only Gallerian's grave (and Nyoze's, once it was added) is taken care of. The Director seems to have a strange vendetta against Michelle, and none of them care much about Mira, but the graves are there regardless.

I headcanon that Lilith, once the body Gretel gave her wore out, asked Lich to add all her old scars to the next one. Not just her scars from the experimentation and Postman, but her scars from her lives as Rin and Riliane. She didn't want to forget those scars or the things that led to them- all the little scars on her fingers from accidentally cutting herself with a knife when she was first learning to cook, the burn mark from that one time one of the orphans accidentally pushed her into the stove, the dog bite she got when she repeatedly annoyed Kai's old Shiba Inu.

Some of the scars are less benign- there's a jagged scar on the front of her neck from when Kayo murdered her, and a smaller scar on the back on her neck from when Clarith tried to. There are long, thin lines on her arms that she refuses to talk about from when the guilt over her sins got to be too much, and there's several scars where her bones were broken as punishment for resisting Ma.

But they're all her scars, they're all proof that she's alive and can feel something- even if that something is pain. They're hers, and she wouldn't give them up for anything, no matter how much it hurts to recall them.

evillious posting again, but I get a bit miffed when people Genuinely get mad at gallerian for cheating on his wife, insist that it's unforgivable and put it on the shelf with hetti media.

1: because it's just silly when people love characters who do cannibalism and blow up the literal entire earth in this series. the man caused fantasy world war 1, I think he's got bigger problems going on

2: ma's role in the whole thing and how what she did was narsty as hell

3: that the cheating was Like That.

Allow Me To Paint A Picture:

you're a teenage boy and a guy you think is your friend gets mad at you when you talk to his girlfriend. you both think it's weird but you don't say anything because you really don't have many friends in the first place.

but then your so called friend goes on a tirade about how you're inherently lesser than him and tries to literally hunt you for sport, and you get shot and one of your fingers never moves right again but you survive. and then you find out that your ex friend was a horrific monster who was born and raised by horrific monsters, and what happened to you is just one in a Very long line of lives they've tried to crush. so you use your status to help these people who saved your life put your used to be friend behind bars through lying and cheating and manipulation

and when it's over and done with his girlfriend who was never allowed to Really be your friend (she'd been His girlfriend, and you'd been His friend) confides in you that the way he treated her was awful and hurt her too. and you don't really like her and she doesn't really like you so much as you both know that it'd make him mad if he knew that you were sneaking off together. you learn that he killed himself in jail, and you miss the person who'd been your friend.

and now you're not even 18 years old and you're getting married, because trying to get back at someone who already wasn't there had consequences. but when your daughter is born you love her. you love her with everything that you have, you love her with everything you'd want to give a family.

you and your wife don't really get along. you'd never Really been friends before you were partners, and she doesn't get you in a way that you don't get her. she always had abundance even when she never had control, you've spent your whole life wrestling for control because you've never been given anything.

it's your birthday, and she's not with you. it's your birthday and one of the people who saved your life is here instead. it's your birthday and she wears the face of someone you lost a long time ago. it's your birthday and you've always wanted a family. it's your birthday and you've never had alcohol before but she bought it for you special to celebrate and she tells you to drink as much as you want. it's your birthday and you're wobbling on your feet. it's your birthday and you're laying in her bed. it's your birthday and she looks down her nose at you but she doesn't say no.

she keeps visiting you. she keeps holding you. she tells you what you want to hear. and then she's gone again.

both gallerian and mira were victims of circumstance, and Neither of them were good for each other. they didn't Deserve what happened but they weren't In Love. they married because their careers would be over if they didn't, they married because their child wouldn't have a family if they didn't, they married because they had to.

also gallerian is gay

(going into detail about what, Exactly, makes what ma did creepy as hell under the cut. 1: because it's creepy and 2: because a lot of people know and don't need to be subjected to it again)

warnings for: incest and grooming

so without getting into the Specifics of how ma happened (because that would take too much) here's the break down:

ma is an Amalgam that's hundreds of years old. she was made by smashing together a bunch of souls at random, and she wants to absorb more into her. but there are Also souls that she wishes to expel out of her.

to do this she needs to create empty vessels that meet the conditions that the souls will accept. namely they need to have the right magical potential (the souls that created her were, of course, some of the most magically inclined that's ever existed).

the problem with That being that essentially the salem witch trials are happening and have been for decades. most people with strong magical potential are dead.

enter gallerian's father. he's a judge with magical potential. she has a baby with him, that baby is gallerian. she then fakes her own death to dip out of being his mother by getting caught As a witch and being "executed."

the problem being that while gallerian has the right magical Potential (being a combination of her magical potential and his fathers), he's not the right Gender (the soul she wanted to get rid of is rather picky).

and so gallerian grows up without a mother, poor and with everyone knowing that he's related to a witch (there's Also something to be said about ma being fantasy japanese, with them living in fantasy america in roughly world war 1 and 2 era. though that part isn't elaborated on in text)

And Then All Of The Above Happens.

She Knows that she is gallerian's mother, She Knows that growing up ostracized without a family fucked him up, She Knows that he's vulnerable and why.

she was his mother, she met gallerian again when he was a teenager, he brought him back into her life specifically with the goal of having sex with him to get rid of the soul she was carrying, it was his 20th birthday the first time they had sex, she knew it was his first time drinking, he couldn't stand on his own.

if the soul had latched onto gallerian when he was born then she would have killed him, but it didn't and so she ruined him instead.

this is grooming, what she did was groom him. and it's not that gallerian doesn't have Any agency, but I simply don't think it's reasonable to treat the situation like it's cut and dry when it isn't.

Especially when she'd come back and does so much worse.

Something that's always confused me in EC is why the hell so many members of the Marlon and Beelzenian royal families look like Adam and Meta respectively. Eve's lookalikes can be explained away pretty easily by virtue of literally being her, but there's no explanation for Adam and Meta.

Thus, I would like to propose this theory.

Adam influenced the way Marlon men look like from Grim the End similar to how Eve influenced Mikulia's appearance. Karchess's appearance is genuinely a coincidence, but the later generations were influenced by Adam. (credit for this part of the theory goes to @gecemi09)

But what about Meta? She's not in a vessel, she's just dead.

Well, it's established in canon that Hänsel and Gretel are fated to reincarnate over and over again. What if they're also fated to find a woman who looks like Meta to follow? They didn't reincarnate in Lust arc (or if they did, they were off doing something else) so they never met Maylis, but they adored Banica. Germaine could've been the intended Meta lookalike for Riliane and Allen, but Prim threw that off. Maybe that's why Abyss I.R wanted Germaine in the first place, so she could better control Hänsel and Gretel's incarnations through her. Since Irina took over Germaine's body, Germaine never had any kids that would lead to another lookalike for Lemy, but that didn't end up mattering in the end since Lemy was adopted by Julia.

And then along comes Envy arc and Mei and Rin. It's always been odd to me that Riliane reincarnated in Enbizaka at all, but what if that's just another result of her being a failed reincarnation of Gretel? It's entirely possible that the twins were supposed to reincarnate in Enbizaka, but since they're in the glass and Allen's in the Black Box, Riliane was the only one who actually did. That's why Mei looks like Meta, because Gretel's incarnation was supposed to have a mother that looked like her first mother once again.

But that's just a theory.
