june and khari are a long-married couple - biologically childless, but have taken in countless adopted and orphaned children and assured them a safe haven to grow amongst the cablers with enough love to spare. both live in motorcity, and even lived in detroit before abraham kane decided to build another city on top. they witnessed the downfall of their home, and are thankful they’re still in motorcity to witness the newer, more capable generation win it back. which is why the love they give and sacrifice among the people they meet is so important to them - while their ability to fight is not meek or effortless, they found a better strength in raising children to believe in their freedom, and in love.

both characters are like family to tennie - like an aunt and uncle, they were around to aid bracket to raise her in the absence of her mother. naturally, they’ve a strong bond, as such large hearts do, so it was hard on a 12-year-old tennie when the day came that khari and june, amongst some other cablers, decided to venture out into the city’s outskirts on their own accord. ( of course, always welcome back to the settlement ), but the certain dangers that they faced when heading further out to the city’s outskirts was undoubtedly a worrisome concept to the cablers who stayed.

rest assured they’re fine. they’re currently messengers and scavengers, delving into the deepest most dangerous places of the city’s outskirts and fighting off kanebots as they pass. they keep contact with the cablers, call every once in a while to check up on the settlements wellbeing, everybody’s safety, and to warn of any on-coming bigger threats they might be vulnerable to.
