Whatever you do, don’t think about the parallels between Hamlet and Hamilton

Don’t think about Hamlet and Hamilton, who are both scholars and see their words as the most important weapons in the world.

Don’t think about these two dorks who use love letters to flirt (Hamlet with Ophelia and Hamilton with Eliza, Laurens, and Angelica).

Don’t think about how the government they used to be a part of turns against them, leaving Hamlet and Hamilton feeling lost and alone.

Don’t think about how Hamilton’s constant “I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory” refrain tells us the exact same thing as Hamlet’s soliloquies. 

Don’t think about how “Wait for it” is such a “To be or not to be” song.

Don’t think about Hamlet facing death, telling Horatio “the rest is silence,” as Hamilton tells the audience “there is no beat; no melody” in “The World Was Wide Enough”.

Don’t think about Hamilton and Hamlet dying beside the one they love the most in the world.

And most importantly, don’t think about Eliza and Horatio being forced to put aside their grief and pain to tell the story of the man they loved, despite the fact that they now can’t wait for death to take them too.

Watching @kvothes‘s production of Hamlet made me want to reread the play and now I have all sorts of emotions. Whenever I read Hamlet’s death I almost always picture the scene from Romeo and Juliet instead.

In my Shakespeare class we were discussing types of Shakespeare plays. My professor explains that all of Shakespeare’s comedies end in weddings. I never speak in this class, but I raised my hand. My poor, innocent professor looked in admiration at me and I opened my mouth for the first time since introductions and said, “All of Shakespeare’s comedies end in a wedding because marriage is a joke”. The light left that man’s eyes and all hope was lost. The hot guy next to me asked if I was okay.
