“come on, hyung!” riki says with a frown. “please? just one tape.”

“no.” heeseung says as he closes his locker, putting his bag on his shoulder. riki frowns deeper as heeseung turns to walk away, but the younger boy doesn’t give up easily as he follows heeseung down the hall.

“hyung, please!” riki says and heeseung stops, turning to riki. the older boy says nothing, just showing riki how he puts his headphones on and puts the tape that riki wanted to borrow in his walkman and plays his walkman. the younger boy pouts, deciding to just go to jay and see if jay has the tape already.

everyone that was close to heeseung knew that his walkman and tapes were his most prized possessions. everyone knew after all how heeseung is in love with music. riki knows that, but he thought since his heeseung hyung would always lend it to you, maybe heeseung changed perspectives or something.

so, here heeseung is, walking towards you. he leans on the locker beside yours. you look up at him and back to your locker, taking the tape he lent you and giving it to him. heeseung looks at you with a raised eyebrow, chuckling as he gently pushes it back to you.

“i told you, you can have it for the week.” heeseung says as he pulls his headphones down and you chuckle, grabbing his hand and putting it on his hand. “you don’t like it?” he asks.

“no,” you protest. “it was great, really. i’m just scared i might lose it or something. i know how much they mean to you.” you say and heeseung chuckles. “it’s a rare one after all.” you say as you close your locker. “and if riki finds out you lent it to me, he’d go hysterical.”

it was the tape that riki wanted to borrow ever since heeseung accidentally slipped that he got it. but of course, heeseung didn’t let him.

heeseung pushes your hand to you. “then don’t let him see you have it.” he says and you laugh, kissing his lips to which he smiles. “and i’m sure you’d take care of it. i trust you.” he says, shrugging. you smile, securing the tape in your bag.

“i know, thank you.” you say. it meant a lot to you. heeseung wouldn’t let anyone touch his walkman and tapes, not even jake. but when you came, heeseung just decided to trust you with his walkman and tapes. he immediately liked you when he saw you, seeing you were just like him, always had headphones on. usually, he wouldn’t approach the person even if he liked them, but with you, it felt different. he knew he had to talk to you.

when your walkman broke, you felt silly when you cried but heeseung didn’t judge. well, it was heeseung, so he would have done the same, but it felt nice that he was like you and without thought, he just lent you his walkman, saying you can return it when you bought a new one. you refused, of course. you knew heeseung uses his walkman way more than you use yours, but still, he insisted.

and by insisted, he left his walkman to you, ignoring your calls as he climbed out of your window and went home.

“okay,” you say, looking in your locker. “i do have to give you this, though.”

you grab a cassette tape, holding it out to heeseung. “what’s this?” he asks and you close your locker, leaning against it as you watch him. he takes the tape, seeing the list of songs at the back.

“just something,” you softly say. “mix of songs you recommended to me, songs i recommended to you.” you shrug. “and uh, songs that i have been unconsciously gatekeeping because…” you softly shrug, hands clasped together nervously and heeseung looks at you, raising an eyebrow. “the songs remind me of…” you trail off, pointing at him.

heeseung smiles, looking at you with a look you can’t decipher, it only makes you nervous. but he was actually looking at you with so much love to the point he feels his heart to be so full, he feels happy, content and everything good you can name. he just feels so much… euphoria.

you sigh, reaching your hand out to the tape, but heeseung was quick to keep it out of your reach. “what are you doing?” heeseung asks. “if you’re not careful, you’re going to break the mixtape my beloved gave me.”

“it’s embarrassing, give it back.” you say, chuckling and heeseung shakes his head.

“it’s not, stop being silly.” heeseung says, chuckling. “i finally found a tape that not even you are allowed to touch.” he says with a smile, pausing his walkman as he takes the tape out, putting it in the case and puts the tape that you gave.

“don’t listen to it while i’m here.” you say with a laugh.

“these are great songs, you know?” he says and you chuckle. “thank you, i love it.”

you open your arms, heeseung taking you in his arms as he hugs you tight. “wanna go down the music store with me? the owner said they have new arrivals.” you say and heeseung nods, kissing your head.

“always.”
