#challengeaccepted
This challenge started because of femicide in Turkey. When you see these images, imagine them on the news as part of a story of women who were victims of domestic violence. Women who were murdered & whose murderers don't face consequence. Women who were not protected when they needed it the most. Women who were let down by their government & everyone who stood by & let it happen.
That could be any of us. Breonna Taylor was murdered in her home while she lay in bed. Her killers, men who became the very thing they swore to protect her & her community from, are free. Justice has not been served & our government is letting that happen.
It is so important for women to support other women, but even more important is for us humans support other humans. Our world is such a scary place sometimes & while we can live in our bubbles & ignore what doesn't affect us directly, we cannot escape the reality that these nightmarish acts can happen to anyone.
If we just let it go because we have no interest in going to Turkey or we didn't know Breonna personally or whatever means of separation we tell ourselves protect us, then we're inviting that behavior & those mentalities to propagate. I for one refuse to do that. My sisters & my cousins & my friends & all these babies everyone seems to be popping out all deserve to live in a world where women are valued & protected.
Challenges like this & the general community being nurtured through the internet & social media are so important. The outpouring of love, awareness, & support for causes that matter, for fighting injustice, & for promoting a better vision for humanity is inspiring & gives me hope. This is how we use these technologies for good. This is how we ensure that we as a society grow with our ever-changing, frustratingly complex world.
So I stand in solidarity with all these beautiful humans. They deserved better. We all deserve better. I just hope that the rest of us can realize that 'better' won't come without a fight.
